New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Hmm…not sure, but this certainly does (and I don’t think it’s a coincidence, either!)

Freshly minted 85 resto druid here. Avg. ilvl of 344. Bought ~3 BoE 378-397 items and purchased two 378 items with the JPs I accumulated while leveling.

What do you suggest as my course of action from this point? Should I keep grinding JPs until as much of my stuff is 378 or higher? I found that the mana usage at 85 is just absurdly high. I don’t think I can adequately heal a heroic just yet. I usually can, but I find myself with crazy regen problems after mostly any fight.

I might try to start stacking spirit a bit more while progressing so I can keep up with the increased mana usage.

What do you guys recommend? Should I keep plugging away at normals (7x per week, and then the “new” ones for 30 JP per boss) until I can fill most of my slots? When should I look at starting heroics?

Thanks.

Yeah, I’m pretty underwhelmed by most of WoW’s character models these days. I never liked the human male–why does he have to have a harelip and look like he rides the “special” bus? You can fix that with facial hair, but I like cleanshaven characters. And he’s got wrists wider than most other toons’ thighs. Overall just a really hideous model. Same with the male night elf, with those flipper hands, that bizarrely proportioned body, and the ugly faces.

The only models I really like are the male and female blood elves (I play nearly exclusively male blood elves), the female night elf, and the male undead. The rest of them…ugh. I’ve been playing SWTOR lately and the models there are so much nicer overall. I do hope Blizz finds the time to update soon, because it seems like that’s one of the #1 requests from a large chunk of their player base.

Even better, Infovore. I always see things kinda loopy (hear 'em that way, too - machinery, for instance makes me hear rhythm), but this one leaves no doubt!

Thanks

Thanks, Oak, will do.

What he said. I pay around 20-30 for CATA greens, every single one I can get at that price, every day.

My auction queries are doing weird things;

  1. In browse, I will type the name of what I am looking for, and suddenly it knocks me off and brings up the huge map.

  2. This doesn’t happen a lot but it’s aggravating, it also sometimes says “you cannot attack that target”.

  3. Happening to anyone else?

  4. My keys aren’t bound.

Thanks

Here’s a look at the new, re-designed Wolkenlaufre. He’s new and improved, because Rik’s been telling me what gear to buy and I can sure tell the difference.

I bought those “shoulder-mah-pads” on my own, and we joke that Wolkie needs to find a propane vendor somewhere before they flame out!

Those flames don’t make a lot of sense to me, though. I mean, wouldn’t they burn his arms up???

Thanks

I actually price using a “formula” based on the iLvl. Basically, I stick a zero on the end of the iLvl, then move the decimal two places to the left to determine sell price:

iLvl 289 = 28g 90s
iLvl 300 = 30g
iLvl 312 = 31g 20s

etc.

Seems to work well. That’s just for greens, of course. For Cata blues I just slightly undercut whatever somebody else is selling it for, or if nobody is currently selling that item I go by the history Auctionator shows me.

Yup, I mean, why would I want to go for this:

when I can get this in CoH:

If you have enchantrix or another similar add-on, you might get better luck by further factoring in when it changes from “chance of lesser celestial essence” to “chance of greater celestial essence”–I expect you’ll make more money near that breakpoint if you raise your prices up a bit on the stuff just slightly above it.

Regarding the character models, man, I’m aggressively unimpressed by both of 'em–largely because I played a “Gigantic” character in CoH and that model has clipping issues with its clipping issues.

This is why I play draenei, anyway.

I think one of the key comparisons between the two is the fact that CoH is the older game. So WoW’s models and the customization thereof were already way behind the curve when WoW was brand new.

I’m just loving the fine control I have in customizing my CoH characters’ appearances. Particularly with my female characters (which is … most of them). I don’t care personally for the “standard fantasy body”, i.e. immense breasts and perfect hourglass figures, so I like the fact that I can give my female characters smaller breasts and increase their waist size a bit. And then give them tasty little butts :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey guys,

I made a ticket. Wanna guess what I was told?

Right, it’s the UI folder. Apparently it got corrupted. Seems to the answer to everything.

On another topic, what do y’all think of booze drops? Rik and I discussed this a few nights ago, and it’s my opinion they’re worthless, both to auction off and to use one’s self.

If you disagree, tell me why, please. Is it the bravado that causes one to think one is larger than he is, or is it just something cute one can do with the toon?

I just vendor them all.

Thanks

Actually, based on your description of what was happening, it sounds to me simply like you’re typing without making sure you’re actually in a text box first. Make sure you click in the Search field, and make sure you see the cursor blinking in the box before you start typing. If you don’t have a text box active, the game will assume you’re trying to issue commands instead of trying to type something. So if you type the letter “M”, your map is going to open; if you type the letter “B”, your bags will open, etc. And I know you haven’t done any special keybinding, but the stuff on your main action bar is automatically bound to the number keys (1-0) and the “-” and “=” keys, so if you press one of those without being in a text box, the game will think you’re trying to use whichever ability you have on that key. And if you have the auctioneer NPC selected when that happens, it will tell you “you can’t do that”.

I haven’t gotten a resto druid to max level, but it might be helpful to link your character’s armory so we can have a look and potentially offer advice.

With my healy priest, the rule of thumb was to make sure every piece had spirit on it either baseline or reforged, then gem/enchant for other stats. I suspect this would hold true for most healy classes as well at low gear levels. Once you’re fully kitted out and comfortable with your regen, you can start tweaking things the way your class/spec prefers.

Regarding heroics: The Twilights are MUCH easier than the Zul’Agains, so once you have the gear for entry I’d recommend chain running the Twilights for the 378 gear and the VP. Leapfrog to VP gear as much as possible, backfilling gaps with JP gear. (I don’t recommend, however, cheesing the gear level to get in with PVP gear since that can be an exercise in pain if the toon is a tank/healer)

When it first started happening, that is what I thought too, Rik, so I did it as slowly and exacting as possible and it STILL happened. All that you wrote doesn’t fit the error, sorry my friend.

I know about the shift B and also shift W, and those aren’t bound, and I also looked into the Interface to see if that could be, but no. Also, when I’m in the text box and I type “M” the map shouldn’t open because I’m in the box. I did all that, and I did it all slowly, and it still happened.

Thanks

There is an achievement for drinking 25 different beverage types. It’s fluff, but it’s something.

Heh. My level 85 mage was doing the PvP daily quests in Grizzly Hills (Venture Bay), which flag you for PvP. So I’m casually one-shotting the local orcs, when an unflagged Hordie landed near me. He dismounted, and I saw it was a level 82 orc hunter. He casually started shooting at me and sent his pet at me, and I sort of just stood there and soaked up a few shots while I said, “WTF?” Then I sighed, tossed a Living Bomb on his dog and then 2-shotted the orc with Fireballs.

I’m going to guess that it was this person’s first over-80 character, and he didn’t realize that there is a much larger gulf between level 82 and level 85 than between, say, 77 and 80. For one thing, my own level 82 hunter has 44k hit points, while my level 85 mage has 109k. And is wearing a few pieces of level 85 PvP gear.

But anyway, I was nice and didn’t teabag his corpse or anything

Just finished the TB battle, and we got clobberated, but I was able to get “Undead Slayer” as a guild achievement as well as some HP (don’t know how much, though) which brings me to a total of 580 HP.

I ate my Beer-basted Crocolisc before going in (Rik:)), and did the shouts for everyone, and other than that, did a little DPS and died twice. Basically just followed the crowd.

I think I get about 165 honor for a TB loss, but that includes a bonus for one of the Guild Perks (my guild is level 25, and has all the perks). For a win, I get about 600 honor (+ another 200 for the victory quest once per week).

The BG’s that you can choose give you a decent amount, but those are justice points, right Oak?

I’m beginning to hate weekends on WoW!

The latest: I was riding happily up the river looking for a swarm of phantom eels, when I came upon one and a player was sitting right beside the pool. So I stopped and waved to get his attention, because he didn’t have a line in the water and I wanted to make sure he wasn’t going to fish there. So I waited, and I would have asked, but he was of another race, so I couldn’t, so I had Wolkie and Silka back up a bit, and I cast my line.

When the guy saw me do that, he moved himself and his pet right on top of the pool so I couldn’t see where to cast. Then he wrote (in orange): “Clevername plays the world’s tiniest violin for you.”, and I wrote back in white (could he see that?), that I’d arrange for a GM to explain game courtesy to him and I rode on up the river.

Well, damn if he didn’t follow me to the next pool and did the same thing!

I have found that about 75% of the time, when I see someone and I wave, I get a wave back, and that’s the way y’all know I like to play. And yup, I understand they’re kids, and until he moved over the pool and wrote what he did, I would have been okay with it. Maybe he was waiting on someone? But if he was, why could he have not written something in orange to let me know?

Being kids, I am sure they don’t get that WoW can suspend anyone they want and not hurt its bottom line.

If they’re not blocking the mailboxes, they’re blocking the questgivers and the vendors. Now the fishing pools.

And no, I wouldn’t leave the game, but now, instead of playing at a normal time of day, I am playing in the middle of the night, so I can do so in peace, and i shouldn’t have to do that.

So what do y’all do with such belligerence, just put up with it?

So yeah, there’s an abuse ticket out.
