New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Azshara’s Veil is particularly valuable, because it’s used in several important top-level alchemy recipies (+Int flasks most notably) and it’s such a PITA to gather because it grows underwater. If I remember correctly. My priest always needed more AV.

It drops out of those sealed boxes in the debris, too, Skammie. I fished there (TBPeninsula) in the middle of the night last night, and I musta caught 10 of those boxes 3 containing heavy savage leather.

Q

ETA: I also go through about 12 bottles of that elixir of water walking a day. There’s only one bottle for sale in the AH right now. It just makes it so much easier to fish. Also, got caught in the TB battle last night. Just basically DPS’d, and nobody bitched and moaned, and plus I got some good HP out of the deal!

Okay, I hope I bought the right boots: Ruthless Gladiator Warboots of Alacrity is what they are. But now I see there’s a pair which end in “of cruelty”. All my other ruthless gladiator stuff, such as shoulder pads and gloves don’t have an “of ______” suffix, so I picked the first ruthless boots I came to and I hope that’s what Rik wanted me to buy.

I have been spending time in TB doing BG’s, and although I did die a few times, Alliance took control and I was able to add to my HP money, and so I got to stay and do some questing in there.

There were a couple of quests which I had to abandon, because they weren’t on the quest list. Why is that, because in all my other places where I quest, if I don’t happen to do one that day or just do it partially, it does stay on the list, whether it’s a daily or a regular quest.

These 2 quests, the 4 books and the ghosts didn’t appear on the map, so when I asked another player where they were, he told me I had to abandon them.

So can someone explain this to me, please?

Thanks

Q

If you still have time left (it should say on the tooltip, in bright blue text), take those back and get the Cruelty boots. +Crit (from the Cruelty boots) is going to help you more than +Haste (from the Alacrity boots).

Tol Barad is unique in that it has a rotating set of ‘dungeon’ quests that have you enter various catacombs and kill ghosts/demons/etc. These quests can change every battle (I think), and only the currently active dungeon is populated with monsters, so no progress can be made on inactive ‘dungeons’. What this means is you have to complete the quest before the next battle.

Technically, I suppose you could hold onto the quests and wait for the appropriate dungeon to be active again, but the best course is to just abandon them (you can pick them up again when they’re active).

There are two questgivers there, as you know. The guy on the right always offers the same three quests (Problim, Crocolisks, and Infantry). The guy on the left, though, has three different sets of quests, one set for each of the three underground jail areas:

• “D-Block” quests - these are the ones where you kill demons, collect shackles, and kill Svarno, a big green flame-breathing demon dog, and take his collar.

• “Archmage” quests - kill ghosts, collect books, and kill the undead Archmage guy and take his staff.

• “Warden” quests - kill prisoners, collect rations, and kill the Warden and take his keys.

Each group of three is in a different area, and only one of those areas is available at a time. The questgiver rotates through the sets of quests, and will offer the quests for whichever of the three areas is “open”. So if you have leftover quests from one of the other two areas, you can’t do them unless that’s the area that’s currently “open”.

It sounds like you had the Archmage quests left over in your log, but either D-Block or the “Warden” quest areas were open at the time. So you would need to abandon the leftover quests in your log and then take the currently-offered quests from the questgiver.

Okay, I made the change to the different boots, thanks to Rik’s help.

About the TB situation: could I have done the archmage/D block on my own? D block looked crowded as hell, guys - right there at the door, too.

Thanks and stay warm, Rik

Q

So tell me, something fellow gamers:In WoW, is it possible to walk on top of deep water without using the elixir?

I ask because I use it to fish with and I like to ride Silka on it, but today there was none to be had, so I did a trade shout asking to buy some.

“Why do you need it”, I was asked. Don’t you know you can walk on the water without using the elixir?"

I’ve seen plenty of players riding upon the water on mounts, motorbikes, etc. And, although I’ve never asked, I’m pretty sure they’re using it. Maybe not to fish, but I HAVE seen them doing that as well. So what don’t I know, or is it as I suspected: I’m having my leg pulled?

In other news, tonight there were these 2 dragon riders blocking the mailbox outside of the Dwarven AH, and I whispered, “you’re blocking the mailbox, can you please move?” (I know about shift w, btw, I just couldn’t resist calling their rudeness to their attention).

“We’re not blocking anything, and we’ve been sitting here for half an hour”, came the reply.

Oooooookay.

And I suspect these were adults by the tone of their words.

Ah well, bitchin’s done for the night.

Thanks

Q

Probably, if you went slow and were very careful about pulling. In those areas, it is easy to get too many prisoners/demons to fight all at once. If you can manage to fight 1-2 at a time, I think you should be ok. The “boss” mobs…Archmage, Svarnos, and the Warden…are not especially tough. They have about 150k hit points, and don’t hit all that hard. All you have to do to get looting rights is to hit the mob for damage during the fight that kills him. If someone else is fighting it, you can help them kill it, and both of you will be able to loot. Problim works the same way.

I’ve never played a warrior higher than level 16 or so, so I don’t know what abilities you may have. Crowd control abilities can be a huge help with these fights, if you get more than one mob to fight at once. I think warriors have some sort of stun available, which will take one mob out of the fight temporarily while you kill off the other.

Another way to do it would be to buy some invisibility potions off the AH. Drink one, sneak back to the boss room, kill him, then fight your way out. If you die, you will respawn with full health in a safe location, so there are no awkward corpse runs.

To find the bosses–

  1. Archmage is down the hallway to the left at the bottom of the stairs. At the end of that hallway, turn right, and you’ll see the guy.

  2. Svarnos is down the hallway to the right at the bottom of the stairs. He’s in his own room at the end of that hallway. Big ugly green demon dog.

  3. Warden is the hardest one to reach. You’ll take the hallway to the right, and likely have to kill every mob you see along the way. Eventually, you’ll come to some stairs, with two guards on either side of a doorway. Kill them, may have to go up more stairs, kill more guards, then there will be a large room with a mage in it. Kill her, turn right, two more guards on the doorway to the hall leading to the Warden. He’s on a pedestal/dias/stage like thing in the room at the end of that hallway.

I’m going from memory here, so I hope those directions are reasonably accurate.

On the water walking deal…Death Knights have an ability that lets them do it, and anyone in the party/raid with them can do it too, as long as they stay in range of the ability. Essentially, they freeze a path of ice on top of the water, and ride across that.

Otherwise, you can sort of bounce across the water while riding by continually hitting your spacebar (jump button), at least on mounts than can jump.

Thanks, Oak, and yeah - sometimes I forget about the “pulling” maneuver. I have a rifle I do that with usually with the TB spiders.

One other question: I’ve been getting a bunch of weapons drops lately. You know, “The Mighty Sword Of The Elder” kinda thing, and I’ve been keeping them in my bank vault, because although they’re green, my experience has been they won’t sell. I don’t see anything like that in our guild vault, so I can just store them there, right, because they won’t bring very much from a vendor.

Speaking of things they won’t sell. Take a look at my auctions, if you can, and notice The Tome Polymorph Of THe Turtle, and see how low I’ve priced it compared to the other folks. This is the third time I’ve listed it, and although some of the other guys in the auction got rid of theirs at their much higher prices, I can’t get mine to move. Weird, huh?

Thanks

Q

PS: I’ve looked for invisibility potion but there isn’t any for sale. Is that because I’m a warrior?

:smack: I swear, y’all. Of course they’d have it for sale if they HAD it, Bill. The system doesn’t know whether your a warrior or a mage!

I promise I wan’t always this stupid! :smack:

Couple of options for green item drops. You can just go ahead and vendor them for whatever you can get, or if you happen to know a high level enchanter, he might be willing to buy them to disenchant for materials. I just finished leveling enchanting on one of my toons, and that can get pretty expensive. It takes a lot of dust and essences from cata-level drops to get those last few skill points. I was sending anything my other 85s looted to the enchanter for just that reason–cheaper than trying to buy stuff on the AH for me.

Speaking of 85s, I have four of them now. Mage, Druid, Tankadin, and Hunter. Not sure what my next 85 will be…I have a DK around 67, a 'lock somewhere in the 30s, a shammy in the mid 20s, a priest around level 10, and my poor little rogue twinkie who hasn’t been played since they added experience to BGs. She’s been 19 for several years now. I’m saving my last character slot on Elune for a Panda–probably a warrior, since I don’t really have one of those. But I should pick one of the existing guys to max out while waiting on the expansion…

We still don’t know when that’s coming out, or do we?

I’ve seen the trailer, and I like all the cinematics, but I’m not sure about a toon looking like a Panda. I do like the premise of the Monk, however.

I just wish that instead of putting their energies into a brand new story line, they’d work on their facial art. Blizz had better be glad that their is the first MMPORG, I’ve ever played and there lies my loyalty, because if I had started with any other and then saw the faces of WoW, I would not have continued with Warcraft.

Thanks

Q

Is it just me, or does this http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff71/Drummerboy49/dildo.jpg look like a dildo?

One of them Ay-vantie gardie, neon ones? Pointin’ up at an angle? With all kinds of little pro-truesions on it, for her pleasure?

I been fishing those things up all day! Guess them ladies in Azeroth must get awful lonely!

Quasi

For green Cataclysm drops, I just put everything on the AH for about 30g, and most of it sells (on all my servers). If it doesn’t sell on the first try I just vendor it. I wouldn’t bother sticking it in the Gbank or keeping it in your own bank. Vendoring at least gets you something; sitting in the bank gets you nothing (and takes up space).

Same thing with bodies. I was all ready with a full suit of bikini-style plate armor to transmogrify for my human female paladin. But then I started playin City of Heroes, and after seeing how good the models were in that game I completely lost interest in seeing my female WoW characters in skimpy armor

Okay got it, thanks!

Hey, jayjay! You’re just on sabbatical, right?

Y’all worry me, when I don’t see you here for a long time.

Thanks

Q

As a high-level enchanter, yes, please keep putting your cataclysm greens on the AH for about 1/3-1/4 of the price of a greater celestial essence.

In all seriousness, they WILL sell for that price, because I guarantee there is someone like me on every server scanning the AH daily for cheapish Cata greens.

So, how do you figure that “essence” thing?

Thanks, Zeriel

Search the AH for “Greater Celestial Essence”, see what they are selling for. On my server it is about 100g apiece, with some fluctuation.
