New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Okay. I misunderstood Oak’s explanation last night (how he puts up with my ignorance, I’ll never know) and should have just stayed out of the fight…altogether. That thing did some major damage on me, though. 32 g’s to fix me is a record, I think. Anyway, I’m about to head back to SW out of Dal now, so I’ll do that next. Thanks for the help, Subbie.

Q

How does one re-aquire this quest? I reckon I got so po’d, I abandoned it and now there aren’t any quest givers around that Moonglade portal.
Thanks

Q

I think the quest giver is in the druid village in the north of Moonglade.

Thanks, hdc_bst! I’ll track him down.

Just finished the TB battle and Alliance came out ahead for once and won it. Got all my quests done except, of course, for Problimm. No one around to help me take him down. So… got myself 800 HP to buy Wolkie the next item on Mister Rik’s shopping list.

Thanks

Q

If you get your average gear level somewhere around 365, I would bet you have at least a fair shot of soloing Problim.

I could do it as early as 346, but I’m a Shaman–self heals.

Is that also known as “item level”, Zeriel? If so, then that number is 363 on Wolkie. I keep at least 100 of the best bandages in my pack all the time to heal with. Never tried to heal another player, though.

Thanks

Q

I can solo Problim with my mage in frost spec, with my tankadin, and with my hunter. I can’t seem to do it with my druid in boomkin spec. The mage and hunter have pets to tank for them, and the tankadin has instant self-healing and plate armor. The boomkin just can’t seem to generate enough dps to burn him down, or healing to keep himself alive.

Last night on the trade channel, a player was asking for someone to group with her on an achievement. You can do that? I know you can group on quests, but I thought achievements were strictly solo.

Thanks

Q

I don’t remember what spec Quasi is but I will try it tonight with my Arms war of about the same ilevel and see if Enraged Healing will do it.

Arms.

Naah, there are achievements based on completion of raid or heroic instance milestones. The classic “looking for more, link achievements” is a PuG raid, where the raid organizers want proof you’ve done the raid before. They apparently don’t feel like teaching anyone the fights and need evidence you’ll carry them I mean your own weight.

In particular, raid achievements are apportioned by individual bosses. For instance, the Fall of Deathwing achievement is based on downing each of the 4 encounters, although only 3 appear to be bosses. (You really get achievement credit for a cutscene? C’mon, Blizz!) You score the achievment by scoring all four criteria (not necessarily in one raid session or one lockout).

I speak of this in purely theoretical terms. I haven’t raided since Bastion of Twilight. But still, that’s how it worked, and probalby still works.

That really is a poor way of phrasing what appears to be intended to be “‘Spine of Deathwing’ and ‘Madness of Deathwing’ are in fact two separate raid encounters”–perhaps because of the mechanics of the fight on DW’s back, it’s not really implemented as a proper boss fight for achievement purposes?

My Alliance main is an arms warrior, and it’s been awhile since I went to say hi to Problim, but in FL gear I had some difficulty burning him down, as I recall. I’ll have to go do that when we have TB and see how he does with a few pieces of LFR gear.

That said, yeah. My entire raid team have gone off to TOR en masse and show no signs of coming back. Even the guy who wasn’t into TOR hasn’t signed on in a month. :frowning: So I’m backup pugging on my priest and a new DK. /whistle

I’ve been able to solo Problim on my Ret paladin for a while now. Prior to 4.3, doing so required casting Lay on Hands on myself once I got too low on hit points, but the improvements to Ret that came with 4.3 (plus having better gear) have made it so I can take him down without using LoH, and still have 30k hit points left.

I think I may have successfully soloed him once on my BM hunter, but I can’t recall for sure. I’ve tried and failed several times with both my Arms warrior and my Sub rogue.

BM hunter is certainly viable. My main’s altspec is a high-survivability BM spec (i.e., everything about defense and extra health, not so much about DPS) because it’s specifically my soloing spec. And my polar bear does a fine job tanking Problim. The fight doesn’t go as fast as it could if I were marksman-ing, but again my bear would probably die too fast because of lower health and stamina and much inferior Mend Pet.

A tenacity pet and talented Mend Pet is more than enough to burn Problim down.

I’m going to try it tonight, if Alliance happens to win again. I had a helper last night.

A question about the TB raid. Our raid leader kept flashing a “ready?”) pop-up at me, which also asked which I wanted: DPS or (whatever the other choice was). I found that distracting, but I had told him at the gate that I was new to raiding and I’d do my best, so maybe that was for my benefit?

And welcome to the guild Suburban Plankton. I made you an officer, so please check to make sure everything’s working (bank, vault, etc).

Thanks

Q

No one ever told me if on my character bar the number for item level (mine is 371) is the one I’d need to defeat Problim?

Thanks

Q

Nope. I was Problim’s problem. He killed me. Came back with a friend and we got him.

Q

You did the Baradin Hold raid? Way to go, Quasi!

The flashing “ready check” is fairly typical in raids. The raid leader is asking if you are ready to start the fight. “Ready” meaning buffed up, and prepared to do whatever role you’re assigned. In your case, “Damage” is the appropriate role. The other option would have been “Tank”, and I don’t think you want to try that role just yet. BH usually uses two tanks, that must taunt the mob off each other at certain times, and can get a little tricky. I tried it on my tankadin, bungled it horribly due to lag issues, haven’t tried it again.

As DPS, assuming you are doing the new boss down there (it’s the one everyone does, usually skipping the others now) you are supposed to stack with everyone else behind the mob, and do as much damage as you can. When you get the warning for “Blade Storm”, run away to the edge of the room, then run back in with everyone else when blade storm ends. You have to be close to the mob in that fight, because there is some nasty raid damage that will kill you if you aren’t. If you don’t already have it, you may want to download an addon called “Deadly Boss Mods”—it gives on screen warnings about boss special abilities, and other information in battlegrounds, like timers until one side wins or controls a flag.

I got sucked back into WoW (I started way back with Friends and Family Beta) and thought I’d check out this thread to see if there’s been much discussion about PvP. I figured I’d have a few pages to read but…

Holy shit. 227 pages.

Sure would be nice if there were sub-topics.
