New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

That would be awesome, sir! And just what I’d expect from a Knight who says “Ja”!

Thanks

Q

Would be quite a cry fest at level 84 when the sky turns all red and some winged creature spews a bunch of fire on the ground…

If the sky turns red, get out of combat NOW and take to the air. You can survive if you’re flying.

If you’re flying, you’re safe if you don’t land to investigate. If you’re playing Ironman Hardcore, I’m sure you will have had curiosity beaten out of you many times by the time you reach level 84.

Hell, the only sane way to play that way is extreme caution with a high-survivability class. Plate healer, for instance, or somebody with a reliable combat breaker. Too bad you can’t have a Night Elf paladin.

Maybe hunter, since you have a pool of health outside of yourself that you can sacrifice if you have to, and you still have a pretty good combat break. God only knows how many times my main has saved his life by running away while my polar bear bravely held off the bad guys.

But anyway, yeah, I think the best hardcore war stories are the unfair, unavoidable, unforeseeable deaths.

Did I miss something in the patch notes?

I noticed my hit chance on my mage has inexplicably dropped from 16.50% to about 14%, yet on mouseover my chance of missing is 0% for everything. It’s like the hit cap has been lowered or something…

Oak,

Sorry we keep missing each other in-game. Can you give me a specific time when you’ll be on and I’ll just arrange to be on at that time. Are you on the west coast?

Just let me know.

Thanks

Q

No, you’re just looking at your melee/ranged hit instead of your spell hit, we all make that mistake occasionally .

I took a look at the macro I use, and it’s slightly different, and in my opinion better, than the one you linked to. Mine is:

#showtooltip 18
/cast [equipped:Thrown] Throw; Shoot

This will cast ‘Throw’ if you have a ‘thrown weapon’ equipped, and will cast ‘Shoot’ if you have any other type of weapon, so it will work with guns, bows, crossbows, or wands.

The '#showtooltip 18" tells WoW to use the icon for whatever is in Slot 18 on your character, which is the ‘Ranged’ slot. So whatever weapon you have equipped, the macro will show that icon. When you are creating the macro, choose the ‘Red question Mark’ icon for it. This allows the game to change the actual icon as necessary.

So the steps are:
[ul][li]Open the Macro Editor (/macro or /m in the chat window)[/li][li]Create a New macro. Give it whatever name you want, and chose the ‘Question Mark’ icon for it[/li][li]Type the text as shown above in the window under ‘Enter Macro Commands:’[/ul][/li]
At this point, the macro should show in the list at the top of the Macro window, and it should have the icon of whatever ranged weapon you have equipped. Just drag that Macro Button onto your toolbar in place of the ‘Throw’ or ‘Shoot’ button that you presumably already have there, and you should be good to go.

Did some dungeon runs on my baby 'lock this morning. Twice in a row I got Deadmines joined in progress right before the ship, so no quest credit. Finally got a fresh Shadowfang Keep run, but no loot dropped for 'locks. Did get some cloth pants from the quest chain in that one. Oddly, I seemed to have the option to roll need on anything that dropped, even stuff my class can’t use. Don’t think you can do that in upper level dungeons…or maybe I just haven’t been paying attention to stuff I know I can’t use.

Subbie,

That worked just fine. Thanks!

Oak,

Thanks for the elixir! I love using that stuff on top of the water. Especially when I’m in Uldum fishing for that special catfish one uses for the casserole. It keeps me off the shore where those seprents can sneak up on ya’!

Q

Those charm bracelets: I got the achievement “Charmed” with ten of them and I know you can give them to the head honchos (kings, etc) of the various cities, but can I stick some into the guild vault for my guildies to use?

I ask because every now and then I’ll see someone on the trade channel advertising them for sale.

Thanks

Q

The bracelets will become useless when the holiday ends. Dunno if they will just disappear, or if they will still exist and be usable next year.

Anyone know where Muradin Bronzebeard is in Ironforge? I wanna give him this fuckin’ bracelet. I’m standing right in front of the bank in IF?

Oak, so when this is done on the 18th I can either make them disappear or they’ll do so on their own, I understand. Meanwhile though, they’re taking up room in my bags and if my guildies can’t use 'em I might as well make them vanish, right, since they have no vendor sales value?

Thanks

Q

Never mind: I found him.

Unless y’all know of a reason why I shouldn’t, I want to get rid of my Valiant’s and Aspirant’s Seals. They’ve been in my bank forever and AFAIK, they’re no longer of any use to me, right?

Thanks

Q

I’d sell the bracelets for whatever you can get for them. I’ve seen them go for 25-100 gold each. I sold three the other night for 40 gold each.

The dwarven king is in his hall, almost directly “behind” the bank, on the inner circle of Ironforge. If you have the quest, and you have a bracelet in your inventory, there is probably a yellow ? on your minimap marking where he stands.

Put another way, if you leave the Ironforge bank, facing the AH, turn to your left. You should see a small doorway, leading to a short hallway…this leads you to the inner circle of Ironforge. To your right as you face the center is the Flightmaster. To your left, sorta around a corner of the building, is the King’s room.

So my guild finally got Deathwing down on 10 man normal last night.

I’ve been telling myself for some time now that i was gonna stick around to see that through, and then probably seriously cut back my play time. Maybe even quit the game. The lore surronding the next XPAC has me pretty uninspired, but i don’t i’m ready to quit all together. I guess i will make my decision over the comming months.

I see a lot of this happening. It’s rampant in my guild–our #1 progression team left en masse to go join a more progressed guild on the Alliance side, and most of our other raid teams (including mine, which was #2) have kind of succumbed to malaise. I’m suffering from a severe case of WoW burnout right now, and I honestly don’t know if PandaLand will fix it. This is problematic since with the departure of our main team, I’m now the GM of a guild with over 400 toons in it. I’m sticking it out for now but if my burnout doesn’t lift by MoP, I’ll probably pass off the GM seat to somebody else and settle back into a life of casual obscurity (and SWTOR).

Informal survey: How many of our Doper WoWbies aren’t feeling the love lately? I see this as a pretty pervasive thing–several friends on different servers have reported it as well.

Yeah, I finally found the king and the elfen queen and got admiration nation as an achievement.

Thanks, Oak

Q

I’m still feeling the love, but I’m only entering my third year of play. Cross realm raiding has made me more excited, actually. All the raids are still pretty fresh for me, and I’m still working on achieves for my main.

i don’t know… this is tough to answer. On one hand we are at the end of the life cycle of an Xpac, which there always seems to be a kind of general malaise. On the other hand, i feel like my server is still pretty active. Personnally i might just be at one of those points where i need to take like a 2 month break.

I’m still feelin’ it, but only because I’m better at playing than I was a few years ago when I started.

Where I miss the “love” is here in the thread, with so many of our friends gone, but I guess the 2 (the game and the thread) go hand in hand, don’t they?

I’m just glad I have a place to come to if I have questions.

Thanks
