New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

This weekend I made a small tweek to my spriest’s spec and my dps went from fair to rockstar status. I had never really adjusted it since leveling and couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. Maybe you’ve already got your spec how you like it, but a small tweek seemed to make a big difference for me. I think the elitist jerks spriest thread has a good spec guide.

Hi all, I’m new to the thread. I’m new to wow, but not quite enough to be called a noob

My main is currently a 67 Human Affliction Warlock. I’ve kind of stopped levelling him as I’ve developed an affection for the Horde and don’t want to pay to transfer him.

Alts:

56 Blood Elf Marksmanship Hunter
35 Blood Elf Holy Pala - levelling as a healer

27 Dreanai Survival Hunter

All on Alonsus

Hey Quasi, when you have this quest, open your map. Do you notice how there are multiple light blue areas highlighted on the map? That’s because this quest doesn’t take place in just one location. The sugar is spread out all over Stormwind. You have to visit all those areas for a chance at sugar. Some vendors may not have the sugar when you visit them because another player doing the quest bought them. Plus there are bags just laying around in some places - you’ll notice because they have the sparkles around them like other quest items do.

yeah, Kushie, that’s what I mean, though (and I should have explained): The reason the quest is so aggravating is because there are usually so many of us waiting to loot those bags!

Thanks

Welcome Bohomite! Enjoy the thread, ask questions. Don’t go reading the entire thread, unless you can’t sleep.

Man!!! After about a month of dailies in Unupe and Moaki harbor, we finally got exalted (“Tuskarmageddon”) and I was able to purchase the Mastercraft fishing pole and the Penguin pet.

Since they’re a low-level quest, I don’t suppose I need to go back there, do I?

Guess I can work on fishing achievements now that I have a better pole, and also enter the tournament with a better chance to catch the shark?

Thanks

Nope. Once you’re Exalted with a faction, you’re done. There’s no higher value of Exalted that you can get. Of course, you CAN go back and do any daily you want, including ones from factions you’re already exalted with, but you won’t get any more rep points for them.

It looks like the fishing pole and the penguin pet are the only rewards at Exalted, so you’re done, unless you want one of the crafting patterns they sell and haven’t gotten it yet. With Cata out and Wolkie at 85 already, the gear they sell isn’t very useful.

I don’t think that will work - “limited time” quest items like that sometimes disappear after a while. However, I never tried it with the sugar, so I can’t say for sure. Also, that vendor will only sell the bags of sugar if you currently have the quest in your quest log, and I don’t think she’ll sell you any more once you have 4. You can buy what she has (1 or 2), and then come back later to see if she’s “restocked” to buy the rest, but then I don’t think she’ll sell you more after that. And once you’ve turned in the quest, she won’t have the items in stock at all until the next time you have the quest in your log, so I don’t think there’s really any way to “save up”. (And yeah, the game can tell when they’re in your bank instead of your bags, and will “know” how many you have.)

Pretty much (or, as I mentioned, just wait a while and talk to the vendor later to see if she has more).

Don’t forget there are fishing and cooking dailies in Ironforge and Darnassus, too, and some of them are very easy. They both have a quest to cook 10 Spice Bread - all you have to do is buy the ingredients from the vendor, who is right there (downstairs from the questgiver in IF, and right next to the questgiver in Darnassus) and then cook the bread on the stoves that are right there, and then turn the quest in.

Thunder Bluff (for Horde) has a similar quest, but it’s to cook Mulgore Spice Bread. I love the cooking questgiver in TB (Aska Mistrunner?) because she’s so darned enthusiastic. She tells you about how Mulgore Spice Bread is sold all over the world, and even purchased by Alliance races “… because IT’S JUST THAT GOOD!”

You can buy yourself a PvP weapon for 3400 Honor Points - you can choose between a 2-hand sword, a 2-hand axe, and a 2-hand mace (the stats are identical on all of them, so it’s just a matter of preference which one you buy).

After that, just keep doing what you’re doing and save up your Honor Points (it will max out at 4000). It’s possible/likely that the next level of PvP gear (“Cataclysmic Gladiator”, the stuff you currently need Conquest Points to buy) will be made available later for Honor Points. I think that once you get your Ruthless helm and weapon, you’ll have every slot filled, so once you start upgrading to the next level you can buy the pieces in whatever order you want

They actually changed the way the bags spawn, because when the quest was first introduced, the bags spawned in fewer places, and instead of running around a finding them like Blizzard intended, people were just camping in one spot for as long as it took for 4 bags to spawn in that one spot. So they changed it up so that the bags spawn in more places, but each spot takes much longer to respawn. I’m pretty sure they did that to discourage the “camping” by making it genuinely faster to run around and gather the things. I thought it was funny because I’d find somebody camping one of the original spawn points, and they’d never notice that two other bags had spawned in the same room. I’d snag the other two bags while they were still staring at the first spot.

In addition to the spawn points, there are also a couple more vendors - there are two taverns in the Mage District, and a bartender in one of them (I can’t remember which) will sell you the sugar. There’s also the General Goods shop in the Trade District that is run by the elderly couple, and one of them there will sell you some sugar.

That pole will also let you breathe underwater. I liked to equip it when I was doing the crab-catching quest so that I didn’t have to come up for air.

Not unless you’re seized with nostalgia.

I don’t think I’ve ever gone back after hitting exalted with them.

I’ve read and posted (mostly read) threads here on straightdope for about the last 10 years, and today, the same day I’ve decided to give WoW a try after a 2 year absence from it, I was excited to stumble upon this thread. Just curious if anyone else plays Alliance on the Bloodhoof server.

Heya, Shig. Welcome back to the game – a lot has changed in 2 years!

I think most people are/were on Cairne with others scattered around. Personally, I’m on Wyrmrest Accord-A and Moon Guard-H.

The MoP Press Tour NDA has been lifted!

I’m so excited I’m like a little punky gnome hopped up on mojo!

That’s right, Garrosh. Half a stack of Peacebloom is a better Warchief than you.

Oh, my…even if I weren’t excited about Mists already, knowing that’s the endgame would pretty much completely wipe out the negatives!

Occupy Orgrimmar! Down with Garrosh!

ETA: They should let you buy signs to hold with clever anti-Garrosh slogans on them that also have an x% chance of attracting the attention of nearby Orgrimmar Grunts and Kor’kron Elites who’ll beat you to a pulp and leave you for dead.

The character models get so much better with every expansion that it leaves me pining for them to redo the original models.

I’m excited about getting rid of Garrosh.

But there are a few things that make me , too. Namely:

  • PokeWoW (we already knew about this, of course)
  • FarmWoW (seriously? SERIOUSLY?)
  • Beer “alementals” (see previous comment).
  • A dungeon boss who’s an evil rabbit with CARROT BREATH? (ditto)

I dunno. I’m withholding judgment until I actually see this stuff, and there is a lot there for me to get excited about. But…

…yeah.

If the WoW team had been in charge of writing classic fairy tales, Goldilocks would have found only two bowls of porridge: too hot, and too cold.

Vol’Jin for Warchief 2013!

I kinda like the idea of beer alementals, but yeah, there’s a lot of comedic stuff. But the notes also make it seem like there’s the humour through the Pandaren and then the drama through the factions, so that’s okay. As long as it isn’t all drunk Pandas.

Welcome to the thread guys…if you want to group up with other Dopers, most of us are in the Burning Dog Legion, Horde Faction, on Cairne. We would be more than happy to have you if you do want to make a transfer. We are very helpful with mats, gear, tips and doing 5mans and were are trying to get back into 10 man raids as well. Just let us know on our thread if you want to join and we’ll keep an eye out for you. We are very laid back…sometimes…TOO laid back.

We also have our Guild Thread here too…this is the most recent page.

Called it. Almost completely called it. (Except for “Late 4.x” instead of “End of MoP”)

I look forward to this. I feel bad for Orgrimmar, though. And unless Varian straightens up and un-douches a bit, I think both factions should pay Stormwind a visit too. (Garrosh is different in degree, but not really in kind, from Varian Wrynn, IMHO.)

So when’s the release date?

Thanks
