New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Another thing that might be fun is going on Transmogrification quests for old gear and weapons to transmog your gear into. A lot of really cool stuff can be found in dungeons so old that level 85s can practically sleepwalk through them.

If this sounds interesting, get yourself an addon called “MogIt,” which will show you all the gear available for every slot. Just remember that you can only mog the same type of gear–in other words, if you wear plate, you can only transmog it into other plate, or if you use a 2H axe, you can only transmog it to another 2H axe. But you can use virtually any piece of appropriate-type gear in the game (there are a very tiny number of exceptions but you most likely won’t run into them).

For example, I went on a quest to gather all the blue-quality paladin set that’s the purple-colored twin of the “Judgment” set for my death knight. It’s a gorgeous set, and it’s easy to get. It just takes a little patience waiting for the drops since some of the gear drops from level 70 heroic dungeons (easy to solo, but they reset once a day so you only get one shot each day).

Well, hmmmm. Rik has me geared for PvP (quartermaster in SW/Old Town) and in Ruthless armor and weapons, so should I do that with Wolkie? Would all the gear retain its strength and ratings? Thanks, Info!

Martu, I’ve done low level dungeons before and had forgotten about them so I’ll check them out. Right now, I’m going to stay with the Grizz dailies till I get my new sword. I also have herbalism to finish as well as I need to get started on Archeology.

I’m proud of my new Westwind drake (another Silka in another form). She actually “coasts” when she flies, and looking at Wolkie sitting on top, I can tell she’s much larger than the gryph version!

Thanks, guys!

See, that’s the cool thing about transmogrification–your gear is still the same “under the hood.” It’s still got all the same stats and values it did before–it just looks different. Think of it as putting a coat of paint over your armor. It gives you a lot more freedom to be individual with your outfit choices, without sacrificing any of your gear’s current stats.

Another thing you could do, Quasi, is see how many reputations you can raise to Exalted. A few of them require doing raids, which is probably out of your reach, but most of the Classic factions can be done by killing low-level mobs out in the world and many others can be done by doing dungeons in Outland or Northrend and you can probably solo all but the hardest of those. No jousting required!

Holy crap! No posts since Skammie’s!!!

I need help with my WTF folder. Blizz wants me to delete it because I am having lag issues. In order to do this my computer (W7) needs to give me admin rights which it won’t do. I can delete the other 2 folders (cache and IF) but not WTF, So WTF??? I always use admin rights to play the game and when I use SpyBot so I’m at a loss here. Can anyone here help me with this. Blizz wants me to reduce (something - I forgot) and sound and see if that helps and they say without admin rights they can’t help me. Helppppp!

Thanks

Quasi

Have you tried restarting your computer and deleting the folder then, without starting WoW or anything else? Sometimes Windows asks for admin rights when another program ist accessing the file or folder you want to delete.

By restarting your computer first, your chances are better that all programs that might access the WTF folder are closed.

:smack:Thanks, mkl12!

Guys, this shows just how far I’v dropped down the stupidometer: I didn’t know that you had to update your motherboard. I did that and the game is running better than it ever has! Had this machine going on 8 years and never checked for updates.:smack:

Thanks

Quasi

The new improved, Wolkenlaufre.

Looks like you are missing gems in your chest, belt, pants, and boots, and may want to look into some enchantments, but otherwise you’ve got some nice gear.

Can you tell me which ones and how/where I can get them, please, Oak?

Thanks,

Q

PS: I should have the guild at 3 sometime today.

Or is there a gem finder add-on that’s good for this?

Thanks!

Quasi

You can buy gems on the auction house. There is a tab on the left of the default auction house screen labeled “Gems”. Click it, and it will expand to offer you tabs for each color. The main colors are red, blue, and yellow. There are also some gems that combine two colors. Note that gem color is different from the quality-color common to all items. You’ll see some incredibly expensive gems that are “epic”–ie, purple quality, as well as less expensive blue quality ones. You want to be careful you don’t buy low level epic gems when you can get blue quality level 85 gems that are more effective.

The easy way to do it is just search for gems that match the slot color, then go down the list looking for those that have useful stats for warrior. Doing it this way will get you some small “slot bonus” stat increases along with the benefits of the gems.

Another method is to ignore the slot colors and pick one or two gem types to place in the slots you have available For example, you might choose to go with all strength gems–I think those are red, or all stamina gems, or all +hit gems, or some combination thereof. If you do this, you will not get the “slot bonus”, but you can concentrate on maxing out whichever stats you want most.

Yo slot a gem, you right click the armor piece, and a small screen will pop up showing the available gem slots. Then, with your bag containing the gem open, you can drag the gem to the open slot. If you are going for the slot bonus, be careful to put the red gem in the red slot, etc.

I’m going from memory here. I cancelled my WoW account a few weeks ago, because I haven’t been playing it much lately. I think my subscription is paid up through sometime in July. I might re-subscribe when it gets closer to the expansion launch.

Just a small correction, you hold down the <Shift> key and right-click on the item in question to open the ‘socket gems’ window.

Thanks guys, and yeah, Oak, come on back!

Found a website called “gem finder” which filters the gems according to your class.

Dragon Soul Challenge!
If you’ve run any of Dragon Soul. (LFR, 10 man 25 man, anything) or even if you haven’t, this may be of interest to you. There was a Dragon Soul Challenge a few weeks ago. 2 25man guilds went head to head in a 25-man Heroic (no-debuff) Raid! It took a bit over an hour, and ended within seconds of each other. (and one team even wiped!) All-in-all it was for charity and they raised $25,000(USD). If you’d like to see that challenge, you can here.

Well they’re doing it again, on Saturday 5/12 (4pm GMT…uhh 10am Pacific?). Now it’s 4 guilds:
Blood Legion (USA), Exorsus (Russia), Paragon (Europe), Stars (China)

I don’t know if I’ll watch it live, but I will try to watch it sometime this weekend!

  1. I got an e-mail purporting to be from Blizz inviting me to beta test Pandaren. When I clicked on it, my computer warned me that it may be a phishing scam.

  2. The Knights Who Say Ja finally reached level 3 (10% faster rides). Bot, that blue guild line sure can be deceptive. What IS the daily cap for guild rep anyway?

  3. And I’m seeing some weird shit in the game; greyed out question marks under water, a crate full of teddy bears on the TB Peninsula near the Cape of Lost Hope.

Thanks

Q

It almost certainly is…or at least you shouldn’t take chances. To find out if you’re really eligible for the beta, go to your Battle.net account (go to Battle.net and sign in with your username and game password) and check your list of games. If you’re eligible for the beta, “Mists of Pandaria beta” or something similar will appear in your list.

Never, ever click on links in unsolicited emails, even if they look completely legit. The scammers are getting better.

This is on TB Peninsula. What does it mean? It was a spider, was dead and skinnable. Someone left it, so I was going to poach it, but the game said the above.
WTF?

Also, I sure could use some help, whenever y’all come back. I’d like to get the Mt. Hyjal series done so I can do the Thrall one. I have one or two left and one is jousting those firedrakes in that cave. I’m having trouble maneuvering and working with the mouse.

Thanks, guys!

Q

It’s just a bug they never fixed. I ran into that all the time in TB Peninsula, and only there.

I don’t think there are any prerequisites to the Thrall chain, aside from simply being level 85. I think you just need to talk to the Earthen Ring guy near the portals in SW, and he’ll send you to talk to Thrall. I might be remembering wrong, though.
