New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I consider that a plus.

I think paladin T6 looked great. Not a huge fan of T5. Too many crystals and too monochromatic.

True, the Banana Shoulders outfit was hideous. I forgot about that one. Before my time. I liked the Power Rangers suit.

Paladins, in my mind, though, have the distinction of having THE single coolest set of tier in the history of WoW–the Judgment set. If it wasn’t for my dislike of vanilla raids and all the time it would require, I would send my paladin off to get a set of that.

I like guys who look a little…nevermind.

(which is even more amusing when you consider that my raiding guild is heavily LGBT-oriented. We have a lot of blood elves. )

Yeah, I loved the Judgment set. Still looks great. That set with the shield off Vaelestrasz (sp?) and the mace off Nefarion made a paladin look pretty badass.

And that is rather hilarious. In one of my old guilds, the GM was a gay, black carney who wanted us to faction transfer Horde due to blood elf models (I only mention that he’s black and a carney because that trifecta is something else). He also had a proclivity towards singing the Wonder Woman song over Vent after first kills. Needless to say, raiding with him was interesting.

#1 sounds most likely - I’ve done FoS several times on both my paladin and my mage, so I have a pretty good idea what to avoid. This damage was one big hit for 11k+; damage from the ghosts tends to appear as a whole bunch of hits of a couple hundred each. After the first wipe the tank did ask, “Does everybody know when to stop damage?” (my answer: “Yes - when DBM puts “Stop Damage” in big blue letters on my screen” [That said, I’m going to stop casting Mirror Image on that fight until I figure out if there’s a way to actually make the images stop casting on command])

Speaking of standing in stuff, yesterday the RDF put my mage into PoS, again replacing somebody after a wipe, though this time the wipe was on Tyrannus. And it teleported me in right on top of one of those ice patches Rimefang drops all over the place. It took me several seconds of confusion, trying to figure out exactly where i was and what was happening, and then realizing, “Hey, I’m taking damage here! WTF?” By the time I realized I was standing in the “fire”, I was down to about 1000 HPs.

I did not know that! (I don’t understand it, either, but I’ll figure it out.)

Ooo, good to know! I was fooled by the flowers popping up and thought I had to stand in them.

I like mine (I have the Raging Behemoth’s Shoulderplates), just because I don’t look like every other paladin and warrior in T9 shoulders.

I kind of did a :dubious: when I realized the T10 mage helm is going to make my mage look like a very tall gorloc.

Oh, thanks for that. :stuck_out_tongue:

My mage is currently wearing 2 pieces of 277 tier–one of them is the helm, because it was the biggest upgrade after the robe. I’m showing it because I think the black mage tier is gorgeous…even though I don’t particularly care for the helm. I almost never show my helm. I’ll probably go back to not showing it when I get the 277 shoulders.

But I prefer to think of it as looking like one of the Blood Princes, thanks.

Man, DKs are effing terrible. Why didn’t someone warn me? What should I reroll?

Any more information you can give us? What classes have you tried and which ones did you like/dislike? What did you not like about DK?

The resource system is bad. You’re not able to respond quickly to new situations, like needing to drop a strangulate on a priest or something. It’s always seems like I’m weighting for a rune or need to burn too many GCDs to put up diseases.

I got to 55 with a paladin 'cause I knew they were broken good. That was okay, but I didn’t like support. Originally, like 'early '05, I played a priest 'cause I wanted to melt faces in PvP, but now priests are terrible without highend PvE gear I can’t get.

FWIW, they’re changing the DK resource system in Cata for exactly that reason.

I have 2 froststeel lockboxes (level 73 - classified as junk)

“And a thousand telephones that won’t ring - 48 red white and blue shoestrings”

Should I go ahead and get rid of these things?

Thanks

I would suggest rogue/warlock/mage/hunter as you seem to want to do DPS and all 4 can PvP well depending on comp.

There’s gold in them thar boxes! Go to one of the capitals (stick to Stormwind or Ironforge…nobody goes to Darnassus or the Exodar) and ask in Channel 2 (Trade) for a rogue who can pick froststeel. If someone answers, wait for them to show up and then open a trade window with them. Put the lockbox in the bottom slot and he’ll pick the lock for you. A tip when he’s opened them for you is polite…1 or 2 gold per box at that level, probably.

Thanks, jayjay! I had forgotten about the valuables

Anyone know if there’s a glitch with the orb in Cairne? (Quest is Death Comes From On High). I did a search on those words here, just in case someone’s already told me - but didn’t find it, so sorry if I’m being repititive.

What happens is, I click on the pillar, the orb appears and we start travelling.

I know I have to travel south, and I use my space bar so that I am high enough and my (arrows to control flight of course), but at some point (after I have control) the flight stops and I’m back at the pillar.

I know there’s a reason, but I wish they hadn’t decided to start DK’s at 56. Guess they didn’t figure on ME, huh?

Guild’s down to 10 again. Not playing as much, and I kinda feel bad about that, because even though when I play, no one really needs my help, I like putting items in the guild bank, and promoting the guildies when they hit 20.

I have even given one of my trusted ones the right to invite others, and I noticed he did that a time or two, but now 3 of them left - one of whom was him.

Guild bank’s okay (down to 98 g - and that’s about right), so I guess they take back what they put in, which is very okay with me.

Thanks

Q

Well, that was a trainweck! (the lockpick). One of them worked and she opened it, but the other one said "item not yet modified. WTF does THAT mean?

Thanks

Q

How long are you out there before it rebounds back to the pillar? You should have more than enough time to visit the four hotspots and siphon the information before the spell ends.

Am I completely misunderstanding something about there being gear requirements for getting into the ICC 5-mans via the RDF? It put my mage in Forge of Souls again (Dear Og I’m getting mighty sick of that place - you ask me, FoS is tougher that PoS), this time with a DPS DK who was very obviously a brand-spankin’ new lvl 80, with a GS of around 2800.

Also, the tank we started out with was a dickhead who got us as far as Bronjahm, ran up and pulled Bronjahm, and immediately dropped group. Joke was on him, though - as soon as he dropped, Bronjahm vanished and the encounter reset. I’m guessing that Bron won’t come out of his room, and since none of the rest of us followed the tank into the room, he didn’t aggro on any of us.

Second tank got us through Brohjahm, and I won Papa’s New Bag. Which was kind of pointless, aside from bragging rights, since I’ve already got full Frostweaves on my mage and in her bank. It’s Papa’s Brand New Bag I want …

Second tank led us to a wipe on Devourer of Souls, and then quit.

Third tank led us to a quick victory over the DoS.

I’m starting to get the impression that the success or failure of that fight comes down to the quality of the tank.

Also, IIRC, if you fly out of the designated area, you get sent back home. I really, really hated that quest …

A somewhat vexing random PUG this evening.

I queued for a random PUG with my human paladin while I wait for midnight to arrive so I can validate some stuff moving to production at work. Got Forge of Souls, which was the first time ever on this toon. I remember (this time) to turn in the quest with Lady Jenna at the entrance, and we start off.

We have a DK tank, myself (Paladin DPS), a hunter, a warlock, and a shaman healer. We do well burning through the trash, and reach Brohjahm. It’s a relatively tough fight, and we lose the warlock and healer at the very end (the healer was feared twice into the whirlwind), but manage to bring him down at the very end.

One of the drops was Papa’s Brand New Bag. The tank rolls Need on the bag, wins the bag, and drops from the group. Just another piece of evidence for our theory that all the jerks are playing on Friday nights.

So we requeue, and after a minute or so get a new DK tank. We press on. In the hallway outside the Devourer of Souls, we lose the healer to the spectre that patrols the hallway outside the corridor (I think he stood too close to the entrance to the hallway, and aggro’d the patroller, but I didn’t see.).

We make it to the Devourer, and suffer epic fail on the first attempt. Entire group wipes; mostly because people don’t stop DPSing when Mirrored soul is cast. Of course, the healer is the first to get Mirrored Soul (poor guy had terrible luck the entire run), and dies quickly, followed by the rest of us.

We all rez, run back, and try again. This time I’m the first one hit with Mirrored Soul; again people don’t stop DPSing, and I die quickly (seriously; dead within about 15 seconds). However, the rest of the group press on, and even though the healer dies (again) near the end, the remaining three manage to bring the Devourer down.

With the healer dead, there’s no chance for a rez, so I respawn at the graveyard and start flying back to the instance on the spectral gryphon. As I’m flying back, I start seeing messages: “X has left the party”. “Y has left the party”.

A horrible thought occurs; if the rest of the party leaves the instance before I respawn, will that mean that I’m no longer “in” that occurence of the instance? I’ve never had anything like that happen to me before.

I think about stopping to type quick “Don’t everyone leave until I get respawned”, but I’m so close to the entrance. But just before I reach the entrance I see “A has left the party”, “B has left the party”.

Damn.

I respawn inside the instance, and sure enough, it’s a fresh occurence; the two skeletal guards around the first corner are clambering out of the ground. So I can’t turn in the quest at the end, and will have to try again another day. :frowning:

Geez…7 days for that damn jubling frog to hatch?
