New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I carry my own buff food (well, my priest does; I need to cook up some tank-friendly buff food for Muz), I just don’t generally use it for randoms, since the group overpowers them pretty badly 90% of the time.

Dayum.

She could be “…knocking me out with those Ironforge-ian thighs…”

apologies to AC/DC

I knew I forgot something in my megapost! I was going to mention the murloc ringtone you can buy. Unfortunately, it’s not available for my carrier and model phone. :frowning: (At least it wasn’t the last time I checked.)

If anybody else needs a version that’s readable somewhere other than your computer, I formatted the whole thing as a single document so I could send it to my Kindle (I think I saved it as an RTF file). If you want a copy, let me know and I’ll email it to you. I was emailing back and forth with the author when I made it, so I don’t think he’d mind if I shared it with someone else–if you’re at all concerned about copyright, I’d be happy to double-check with him before forwarding it.

*Please *tell me that’s an NPC.

A lot of Mages use Frost for PvP because of control (snares and stuns) and survivability. It’s also very mana-efficient.

IIRC, for most fights now, the top PvE DPS spec is Arcane.

That’s why I macro mine with a /yell and pop it as soon as I zone in. It’s something like,

/cast Ritual of Refreshment
/yell Come click the portal for a Mage table!

Usually gets everyone to gather 'round.

I always carry Dragonfin Filets with me on my main, for when I miss the Fish Feast during an actual raid, but I don’t bother with buff foods at all for Heroics (or any non-ICC PUG raid) unless someone else is dropping a feast. Even on progression fights, I usually will still just eat the fish, since the difference is so negligible for me as Prot (just a bit more threat, which hasn’t been an issue for me).

Yeah, if there’s no way to actually reach the person, then it’s an exploit and should be reported. (And they’ll probably pick up at least a temporary ban for trying it–a warning at a minimum.)

It totally is!

I’m sorta surprised. Isn’t Ted Nugent kinda dated for the teen-to-twenty-something demographic? Maybe there’s a few of us old farts on the Dev team?

“The Merchant Coast” isn’t exactly a pun that the teens are going to catch on to, either.

It’s not a direct reference to him–the Orc Hunter Tednugent and his Cat, Scratchfever, are the protagonists of You Awaken on Razor Hill, the story linked a few posts upthread by winterhawk11. (It was originally written as a thread on the official forums, done old-school text-based adventure game style, with the people posting to the thread determining his actions. The thread was so popular, Blizz apparently decided to give it an in-game nod.)

Yeah, I do similar with my warlock. I hover my mouse pointer over where the macro hotkey is, then click upon zoning in, and people see in party, “Help me summon, or no healthstones for you!”

Is there any real benefit to buying the Dalaran Brilliance or Dalaran Intellect spells instead of the normal ones? 450 gold a pop seems kinda pricey unless it does something really nice…

I personally make my macro in /yell instead of /party or /raid because I think the bubble is likely to be more noticeable.

They’re exactly the same as the standard spells–they just use a different icon. It’s purely for flavor.

WoW has a loooot of ways for you to show off bling.

Same deal with the various flavors of polymorph (cat, penguin, turtle, etc.) - it’s to be cute. Admittedly, if you happen to have more than one mage, it’s another handy way to determine who’s “sheeped” what.

My mage has Polymorph: Black Cat. I don’t care what the price was–he had to have it. I was the first person to Dalaran on our server when WotLK came out, and the very first thing I did (after taking a timestamped screenshot) was run to the shop and buy that spell. It’s the only sheep spell I ever use. He has Turtle, too, but a friend gave me that one.

Dalaran Brilliance was the “all the cool kids are doing it” thing in my old guild, so I have that too. Didn’t buy Dalaran Intellect, though.

I have the penguin and pig versions of “sheep”. Reckon that’s good enough until I have more gold than I can spend. The War Mammoth mount is going to be my spendy-thing for now, cuz it only costs those stoneshaper marks, which are easy to collect as long as we bounce the horde out of WG tonight. Actually, I suspect we probably have already taken it. Horde really doesn’t seem to put much effort at all into WG on Elune. Most games, only a double handful show up, their towers get trashed in short order, and then we run around in siege vehicles launching bombs at anything that moves until we win.

Next really spendy thing I’m getting will prolly be my mechno-hog. Saw one listed on the AH for 15K, think I can probably make it a little cheaper than that.

Actually, you can get up there without an exploit, but I think it requires a 310% mount and a bit of luck with lag. Fly in the doors when they’re down, and you can land on that ring, with a little luck. Log out up there, and you can be up there when the door has respawned.

I keep meaning to buy that on my Mage–unfortunately, that’s a server where I don’t have a huge overabundance of cash, as I’m still buying BOEs for her. She does, however, have Turtle, Pig, and Penguin.

Oak: The biggest cost of the bikes is the raw materials that have to be purchased from vendors (or, if you’re very lucky, Engineering-skinned off of mechanical bosses in Ulduar). You *might *luck out and find them cheaper on the AH than you can get them from a vendor. I’d recommend checking on weeks when an Ulduar boss (Ignis, Razorscale, or XT) is the weekly raid. You’d be lucky to be able to get all the mats plus the combine fee for under 13k, and if you manage it for under 10k, I’ll probably fall over dead of shock.

Exploit does not necessarily equal hacking. They clearly never intended for people to be able to get up there, and it’s impossible for anyone to come get you once the door has respawned. (Comparable situation: Ensidia getting banned for using bombs to rebuild the LK’s platform to get their world-first kill.)

Uh, that’s pretty much the definition of exploiting.

Erm, where is this shop? I don’t believe I’ve seen this place …

It’s right next to the stairway leading up to the Violet Citadel (where Rhonin is) in Dalaran. If you’re facing the stairs, it’ll be on your left.

ETA: Polymorph: Black Cat is a limited-availability item; the vendor will only ever have one at a time. If you don’t see it, check back later. I’m not sure what the respawn time on it is.
