First, I queued with my Druid Panzera as a DPS this time, so I can work on my cat skills (cause cat DPS is complex)—only to see that my random heroic was Oculus. Went through it with no problems, but then half of the dungeon involves drakes so it’s not hard now that I know how it works. I get to the end and open up my Ley-Guardian’s cache----Reins of the Blue Drake!! Sadly, I can’t use it, cause Panzera doesn’t have 300 level riding. I’m going to bank it though, so that when I earn the 4k gold for it, it’ll be there.
Second, I queued for a normal dungeon on my DK. It pops up almost immediately with a “Dungeon is already in progress”. I go ahead and accept since hey, at least I’ll get 2 free triumphs and land in normal HoR. Immediately the tank and one of the DPS throw a hissy fit over my gearscore being “too low” for normal HoR. Now, I’ll admit my DK is not very well geared, but I’ve been learning my class. Anyways, the healer sticks up for me, and after tons of bitching and whining that I’ll “need” something I don’t deserve, they agree to let me try the final run from the Lich King and if my DPS sucks they’ll kick me if we fail. Through all of this, the only one I’m talking to is the healer, who was incredibly kind/reassuring. Anyways, we do the run, not a single death and at the end, someone posts their Recount/Skada log—guess who was second in DPS? Me, over their friend AND the tank both. The healer and I thank each other, I ignore both the douchebag tank and his DPS friend, and walk out not having risen to their baiting and having proved them wrong.
Oh, the shop with the reagent vendor? Must be the other NPC in there who sells it?
Good lord, the drop rate on Spider’s Silk sucks! I finally understand why it always costs so much on the AH. My young mage, a tailor needed a couple stacks of it to make a Spidersilk Drape for herself plus a couple more to sell, so I sent my hunter to Arathi Highlands to farm it up for her.
Approximately 1400 arrows and 3/4 of a level later, he had 17 Spider’s Silks for her.
(Story told before, I just never tire of trotting it out)
Couple years ago, I forgot to change my desktop background picture after Christmas vacation. I saw it when I booted up but, with the boss right behind me and completely oblivious, I didn’t want to start rummaging around. As I was getting ready to leave for the day, I heard a deep voice timidly asking “ehr… excuse me, but is that Dragonblight Temple?”
I turned around with a grin from ear to ear and looked at the new database specialist “ why, yes it is!”
“:o I guess I’ve told you everything there is to tell… :o”
“No you haven’t, Horde or Alliance?”
He’s a troll warrior, I’m a dwarven huntress, he likes to say I trapped him with a screenshot.
OTOH and in the same job, I had a pic of one of the floating trees in Crystalsong for a month as the background and it got a remark from the boss of “oh, I don’t like abstract art.”
Okay…last night I picked up 5 new quests because I downloaded Everyquest and imported my QuestHistory database into it. I’d forgotten about Duke Hydraxis (though without a raid group I could only do the first quest) and found 3 I’d never even known about in Dustwallow. I’m down to 7 needed now.
Oh AWESOME, that will make it much easier to get the mats, since if you’re lucky you can get in a raid group where you can skin some of what you’ll need. And you can avoid the combine fee if you get the recipe yourself–Horde, right? That will require 450 Engineering and Exalted with the Horde Expedition. (400g recipe, which will be 300g with your Exalted discount.)
Yup. I was going to give you my farming zone, but I see you already found the Arathi Highlands. Works best if you have a character with a mounted speed boost (Unholy DK, Paladin, BM Hunter).
Alas, this BM hunter is still level 38, so he doesn’t even have a swift mount yet. I actually had to send him back to farm up one more Spider’s Silk, because of course, once my mage made those cloaks she skilled up enough to learn some new patterns, one of which was the Lesser Wizard’s Robe, which required still more Spider’s Silk … arg. But while he was there the second time he went ahead and tamed a raptor. I may go back again and have him tame a spider, too, just because I’ve never tried a Cunning pet.
Nooooo. I’m a Gnome. We only let Horde attend Gnomeregan Tech on football scholarships, and we only do that to beat our hated rivals, University of Ironforge.
Ok, I’m Arcane/Fire on my main spec, so I tried this last night during a random heroic. It made a significant difference in boosting overall DPS with those DoT ticks. Thanks for the ProTip! Got any other suggestions for rotations?
:)
I’m thinking of making my secondary spec Arc/Frost. Looking at a raiding spec that puts about 18 points into frost to get some of the synergy going with stacking effects…
O Sweet Og, did anybody see this? Apparently, somebody complained on the beta forums that the Maelstrom just isn’t “epic” enough. So the devs took this comment to heart and made it considerably more “epic”.
By adding a guitar-playing Forsaken, riding on the back of a devilsaur, which is itself riding on the back of a rocket & laser-equipped flying shark
Not gonna watch the video at work, but that screen/photoshop thing is funny. I’m pretty sure the troll with the guitar ain’t rocking Immigrant Song…
I kinda wish they hadn’t done it as an April Fool joke a few years back, because I’d kinda like to see a bard class. Maybe as a super-class, or whatever the call Death Knights, because I can see it being tedious to level a bard, but insta-mid/high level bards could be fun. Might be able to convince a certain “Famous” bard from Everquest to come out of retirement. If there’s a way to train Sand Giants on to Hordies. Go Go Goodguys!
Ya know, the one thing where EQ really beats out WoW in my mind is that EQ had much better humorists. There was Fansy the Famous Bard, Skater Gnome, The Kron, Alijah Zanzibar and her whole Rutabega Paradox guild, and to a considerably lesser extent of fame, some weird dude they called Oakbrow who wrote a few thigns that got passed around here and there. WoW has a few humorists, but they mostly seem to do web comics or other media.
The scene: I’ve just reactivated my WoW account after several months of not playing, because my wife hit 80 and wants to do Dungeon Finder and Raids together. I figure, okay, I’ll apply to the raiding guild my RL buddies run on my server (Elune) to get a foundation going.
Come Wednesday night, I log in. I immediately get a tell from my friend saying “congrats, you’re in!” and a guild invite. Immediately followed by a party invite from someone I don’t know.
And that’s how I found myself, less than two days back in after months hiatus, having never done a raid before, with a gearscore around 4040 (yes, I ground an entire T9 set and T10 shoulders from just Dungeon Finder)…as a DPS on Heroic 25-Man ICC. Apparently I was the ONLY dps in the guild online who wasn’t already in the raid due to some people having an emergency crop up.
We made it all the way to Blood Queen whatever her face before we wiped twice, and it wasn’t my fault either time (since I never made it onto the bite order)!
Having done my first raid, it might start taking time away from EVE for me again.
So anyway, my recommendation: if the people are cool, your first raid experience CAN be Heroic 25-man ICC. Even if you’re down with the healers when the Recount logs come up at the end of it.
(Seriously, the leader was pulling a sustained 11k dps? I’m like, that’s possible? I thought my 3-4k was doing pretty well (as a Draenai Enh Shaman))
Heh…I was sorta proud of averaging about 1500 dps last night, with a few spikes over 2K. Don’t think I’m qualified to warm the bench for guys doing 11K. Not yet, anyway.
Did buy a piece of PVE gear yesterday. Got the gloves for 30 Emblems of Triumph. Think I’ll get the helm next, maybe by sometime early next week. Should get my War Mammoth this weekend, then I’ll start saving for the enchants for my shoulders/helm.
Oak, your dps will definitely go up as you get gear, never fear.

I’ve been working with the Rawr3 public beta and the current Rawr2 rev, and I must say, their holy priest model looks nice. That said though, I’m going mad trying to figure how to upgrade Arhiatlel– I have enough frost for the 2pc T10 – and I’ve been hitting the books trying to determine the best gemming for me.
It sounds like the current vogue is to throttle back on SPI hybrids a bit in favor of haste due to the ICC buff. And my haste is pretty low at the moment: 548 or so. I’ve seen info that 800-1K is about where to shoot for, but if I do that, I drop over 200 SP which, bleah.
Red - Luminous Ametrines (SP/INT)
Yellow - Brilliant King’s Amber (+20 INT)
Blue - SP/Haste or SP/SPI
I still have mana issues so I’m reducing the # of straight SP gems in favor of more hybrids.
I did a random the other night with my 70 pally tank and one of the dps made a comment about my 11.7k hit points. Is that bad? I thought it was all right. He had something like 15k, but he was level 78 or something.
We wiped twice on bosses, but I don’t think it was because my health pool was too small.
I got kicked from a group for the first time last night.
I was in my paladin, who has been level 80 for… oh, let me check… less that 12 hours, ok. She’s still using her Arcanite Reaper and has some mail and even don’t-smack-me-please leather because dagnabit, it was lots better than what she had! (Yeah yeah yeah, I do know those shoulderpads are for a kitty and that helmet for a shammy, I’m dumb but not completely braindead, that’s my brother the DK)
First I got an instance where these two druids kept making fun of me for having items with spellpower (all two of them, and one of them is a ring with +hit, so :p, and I’m a paladin so physical stuff is best but yes I actually do cast spells); there was a warrior using 2 Arcanite Reapers and nobody said a thing about it. Well, OK, so my DPS is 1500, hello, it’s better than it was 12 play-hours ago and better than the warrior’s.
Then I get into a PoS in progress.
tankadin - “another one!”
some dude - “what’s with all these paladins today?”
You’ve been kicked out.
OK… scratches her head in confusion and queues up again
I guess that explains why sometimes we get someone with low gear or a new-tank or new-healer who keeps saying “please don’t kick me” even though they’re doing a perfectly fine job (not as good as someone with 5700 GS? better than some of those, I’ve seen several ubergeareds who had forgotten to equip their brains that morning). Still, I reckon that you shouldn’t kick people out without, I don’t know, giving them a chance to screw up.
Skammer, you know how some people enjoy playing cruel jokes on little children, or can’t be arsed give instructions to a new coworker because apparently they were born learned? You had one of those, he doesn’t remember what his own healthpool was at level 70.
