They have released the first six designs of the proposed WTC site, which all have memorial space and buildings.
My question is, would you work there? I can’t imagine too many companies vying to purchase office space there, especially in the tallest building. Besides, all of the companies that used to be in the towers have already relocated. I’m not sure they would relocate again back to the site.
So what do you all think? Would you work there and if so, would you take a job on the highest floor in the highest building?
The highest building will still not be high enough to be targeted by a plane, like the WTC was—even if another plane attack would be possible. What we have to worry about now is Palestinian-like suicide bombers, especially with “suitcase nukes” or in a rush-hour tunnel or bridge.
As far as 'working over a gravesite," well, most of Manhattan is gravesites! You dig anywhere in any major city and you’ll find old, discarded graveyards.
I don’t know if it’s true that the highest building couldn’t be hit by planes. The designs I saw had one large building that stood between 70 and 90 stories tall. Not as tall as the originals, but certainly something that would be prominent on the skyline.
I used to work in one of the buildings across the street. We no longer occupy the building, but recently there’s been talk of moving back. Part of me hopes we do because I would really like to be back down there, but part of me doesn’t because it would just about double my commute.
What’s the position? How much are they paying me?
Those fucks in the airplane distrupted my life enough as it is. They will not dictate to me where I will or will not work.
It would probably about as safe as anywhere in New York. Statistically you’re far more likely to be killed by a car than a terrorist. Besides, the next terrorist attack isn’t going to be by plane, most experts agree. That one’s been done, and it only worked because passengers on those planes still believed that hijak=safe landing in Havana and hostage negotiations. Now a plane hijak would be a fight to the death with food trays, high-heeled shoes, and rolled up copies of Golf Digest.
Plus security at the new WTC will be super-high, higher than other plum targets across the US. Suspicious activity will be reported immediately.
It’s sort of like Orange county now, right after that 5-year old girl was abducted, raped, and killed. The paranoia level is so high that it’s probably the safest county for a child right now. The killer is either laying low or driving across country to Atlanta. Not to say that vigilance isn’t necessary, but rather that true security is when that vigilance is everywhere.
The new WTC will be a much safer place to work than some high-rise in another city. The only reason to not work there would be because parking and traffic in South Manhattan will still suck ass.
As for ghosts, Eve is right–the whole island is bones, from Native Indian to African slaves to Dutch traders to Irish immigrants. Society builds on corpses, literally and figuratively. The only graves that are hallowed are those honored by the living. The Japanese have rebuilt Hiroshima, the Chinese have rebuilt Nanking. It’s just a matter of perspective. Would you ride a railroad bult by slave labor? Picnic at Gettysburg?
