New Year's Resolutions

  1. Start preparing for my next job move–more training and some research into what’s available. My husband is all set up in a good new job now, thanks in no small part to me, so it’s my turn. I don’t like surprises.

  2. Try Weight Watchers. I’ve tried a few other things and they aren’t working any more. There’s a lot to be said for public humilia…err… I mean mutual support. Plus, I’m just Scottish enough to want to get what I pay for.

  3. Learn something new. A yoga class maybe, or something work-related.

I’m taking stuff in stages, mainly because I can’t tolerate too much change at once.

  1. I started on South Beach in early December. Lost at least 20 lbs. and now need new pants.

  2. Once I get down to my target weight, I’m quitting smoking. For good.

  3. Trying to incorporate more exercise into my life. I’m one of those people who can’t run on a treadmill or pedal an exercise bike to nowhere. I have to do something outdoorsy. So I’m doing more geocaching, hiking and treasure hunting in lieu of walking or running around the block.

I learned long ago that there’s just no point in making resolutions to do things that I don’t want to do anyway, even if it is for my own good.

So no, I won’t be flossing regularly this year. I might lose some weight, but I might not. I won’t get out of debt (not with that new business this year.)

But I do like to learn something new and fun each year. Two years ago, I learned to bowhunt. Last year, I got into photography.

And this year I’m going to learn to rope. I’ve been working at the horsemanship side of it for a few years now, and I think it’s time to start swinging the rope. Wish me luck!

  1. Take martial arts lessons.
  2. Get an over-90 final overall average for tenth grade. :dubious:
  3. Buy a pair of aluminum light sai.
  4. Stop daydreaming all the time. (This one’s going to be a toughie.)
  5. Be nicer to my mother. (I’m trying…Really, I am…)

It’s been a busy busy year. It’s going to be a busy busy year. Therefore, I resolve to keep it simple.

  1. Get through my coursework with a minimum of panic.
  2. Justify my employer’s faith in me by excelling at my new position.
  3. Stop and smell the roses just often enough to maintain my sanity.

Okay. One hard one, just because it’s New Year’s:
4) Actually ask for help when I need it.

I am not satisfied with my overall shape or health, but with the rest of my life fluctuating so wildly, that will just have to resolve itself or wait for me to have the time to focus on it. Yes, ma’am, my weight can wait.

Well not ‘as much as possible’. rather ‘as much as I can safely spend without having to save up or break the bank’

Nikon Coolpix 8400. And I am only looking at it. I haven’t decided, but I’ve heard good things about the coolpix cameras.

There’s a review in ‘Digital Photography (made easy)’ magazine. It got 4 out of five which is putting me off, but it is just one review, and at 8mp it is bound to be better than my old camera (3 effective).

By not spending so much time at work surfing the Dope?
