I can’t go home to Brooklyn from Manhattan apparently so when I leave work in a few minutes, I’m going downtown to look for my friends. It’s all I can think to do. Good luck to anyone else trying to connect downtown. I’m not waiting for phone calls.

I saw a BBC interview with a woman who’d been evacuated from the 56th floor. It was a lot of stairs and a lot of panicked people, but she made it. A lot of people did make it. If Doper vibes have anything to do with it, vix is among them.

My sister worked on the 78th floor of 1 World Trade Center.
She went to the Gym this morning and I don’t think she was there at the time of the attack. I don’t know the exact details, all I know is that she’s ok, and she’s on her way over.
I’m sorry for everyone who lost a loved one in the attack. I’m still quite shook up from the worry and relief… I can’t imagine how I’d feel if she wasn’t ok.
I’m checking in. This is terrifying. I got on the subway in Brooklyn at about 8:45 am, just about when the first plane was hitting. We were then stuck in the subway, for ages, with no news at all. Everyone was very calm, because it seemed like another NY subway snafu. When the train started moving, it didn’t make any stops in downtown Manhattan. When I got off at my stop in the Village, I came out of the subway to see the south tower falling, and crowds of people standing and watching, crying, trying to reach people on cell phones.
I remember during the bombing a few years ago, leaving my office and looking at the towers. Despite the car bomb, you couldn’t see any damage at all. The towers were standing as solidly as ever. I remember thinking how surreal it was that a bomb had exploded, and yet nothing seemed different. What a scary contrast to today.
Of course I am thinking of Vix and trying to be very hopeful.
This is a strange request. We don’t have any working telephone lines in my office building, and no one seems to have a working cell phone. Is there any Doper in the Western New York area that could call my mother to let her know I am ok? If someone could do this for me, please email me at emk1@nyu.edu
