Ha–as Gyrate noted, it’s pretty ironic to accuse him of being “elitist” because his speeches use simpler vocabulary. The guy can’t win with you no matter which way he goes.

She struck me as the sort of ultra-leftist that these days castigates Obama for being too right wing or whatever, and wants to shut down the Pentagon and replace it with a “Department of Peace” (and in case it’s not clear, I have no patience for such people).

As if racism was just some disembodied element like hot weather or malaria that the South had to suffer from. Try changing that to the active voice: “because white Southerners were racist”.

I have said that my impression is that the Deep South is not a desirable place to live. And yes: I even said that I have an impression of it being an “ignorant backwater”.
