But huge numbers of white people voted for Hillary. If white people voted Republican in the same percentage black people vote Democratic, we would lose every election worse than Mondale or McGovern. Further, black Americans were always right about slavery, and white Americans were wrong for a long time before a portion of them finally got it right (while another large portion continued to get it wrong for another century or longer). And American slavery was far, far more brutal than most other instances of historical slavery. If America had put black people in power from the beginning, slavery would have been gone from the beginning. White leaders were in office when slavery was abolished because every political office-holder was white at the time. That’s a bad thing to be deplored, not a good thing to be celebrated.

So, white people, by persuasion and moral argument, managed to sway everybody else that slavery was bad. A tough sell to black people, I suppose, so determined to keep the advantages they had gained from compulsory employment and aggressive recruitment. But after years of struggle, they managed to convince black people that slavery was wrong.

Winning is everything in politics. We don’t need to set the barrier for agreement any higher than is necessary. They don’t have to agree with you 100% to vote for your candidates. We should welcome the Kasich supporter who voted for Trump into our camp. He doesn’t need to fall to his knees like Saul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus and confess his white privilege. We don’t need him to radically shift his world view. We just need him to vote Democratic. That’s it. This is politics, not religion.

Well, as much as you would like to make it a racial fight, of a black vs white, that is not the case. Democratic ideas help white people as well. It is the fact that black people tend to be more impoverished than whites in general, and as such, tend to vote for the party that helps them, but it is more to to do with the fact that the republican party has become a party that embraces racism.
And I don’t know what to tell you, if you are going to embrace racism, the democrats are not going to court your vote. You want the democrats to coddle the racists and beg them to vote for them, but that’s not going to happen, the racists will vote for the party that openly promotes their racial ideals, not the party that fights against racism.
You are trying to make this some sort of either or, in that we should either be courting the white vote, or the black vote, when we are really just courting the votes of people who want to see us all work together to make this country a better place for everyone. If you do not want this, if your goal is to make this country a worse place for certain people you don’t like, then you do not belong in the democratic party.
That may mean that democrats fail, if racism is more prevalent than was previously considered, but I’d rather fail and keep fighting against the problem, then to become part of the propagation of the problem.
