New Yorkers in the 70's - Help me with Apex Technical School

Remember those commercials in the 70’s for Apex Technical School? They were usually on WPIX channel 11.

I remember there was an African American fellow whose name I think was Jimmy Randolph. He was presented in those commercials as if we were supposed to know who he was.

My question is… Who was he?

Apex is still around. Don’t know about that particular spokesman, but the school was in the news this spring: Explosion

Gee, I only remember a balding white guy doing his pitch. And the tag line was, “And YOU get to keep the tools”.

Don’t remember any black gentleman.

I recall the we can’t call you, you have to call us tagline

I don’t remember either. But the channel eleven reference made me want to pop and and go…
PIX!.. PIX!..PIX!..PIX!..PIX!..PIX!..PIX!..PIX!

Did I shoot enough aliens? Where’s my prize?

Get Smart and I Dream of Jeanie were on WPIX 11. For APEX tech, I only remember the balding white guy, who’d promise “you get your own set of tools.”

How about the commercial for Control Data Institute?

Rhythymdvl hit all the Galaga aliens and wins an Intellivision Game Console courtesy Mattel©.

I remember the balding white guy too, and I think Corbomite is correct. Maybe the commercial was for Control Data Institute.

So the question remains. Who was Jimmy Randolph?

This has made me remember “Bowling for Dollars”. Sheesh, how cheesy was that?
