I like strategy games; she likes watching TV. We’re tired of being apart, and we want to play video games together! [Apologies for potentially misleading thread title…]
My wife and I are looking for a good 2-player game for PC or Playstation of any genre besides sports games. Action games, strategy, game show, they’re all okay. (But we’ve had it with fighting games.) Even a quality 1-player game that’s got a gripping story for 2 people to watch would be okay (something like the Final Fantasy games). We’ve got a 700Mhz laptop that can play most games on the market, and an aging playstation in the closet somewhere. Any recommendations?
P.S. Any suggestions for newlywed games of the *non-*videogame variety might also be well-received (and appropriate to the alternative interpretation of the thread title)!
I’d suggest you go with Diablo II. It’s got a superb storyline, the graphics are swell, and the gameplay is EXTREMELY versatile. Five different characters to play, four acts, three difficulty levels… the game is absolutely huge, and will provide many dozens of hours of gameplay. Just be careful… it takes up a SHITLOAD of hard drive space (over a gig).
Additionally, I’d recommend Fallout and Fallout 2. Both are older games, and you can probably pick them both up for $10. As a bonus: The system requirements are practically nonexistant.
(Someone’s probably going to come recommend Fallout Tactics, but I’ve never played that, so I can’t give you the lowdown on it).
As for your request of non-video games for newlyweds, I got two words for you: Nude Twister. But you’ll need a third person to spin the dial… I nominate myself.
Put down the video game joysticks, turn off the fucking TV, and get down to some serious fun. You should be hanging from the rafters, clearing the table, putting the porch to good use, and scaring the neighbors.
Sheesh, the newlyweds of today. It boggles the mind.
Mrs. RickJay and I play EverQuest together and have an absolute blast. The game’s structure is designed to reward cooperation, so working together makes it way more fun.
A Deck of cards and a “Hoyles Rules of Games” is pretty handy. Almost any game can be used by newlyweds with an imagination. I Have been “newlywed” for 19yrs, and my wife and I enjoy a little game we call “Distraction”.
Choose your favorite one player game that you both enjoy but is not nessasarily fun to watch some one else play. Then have her begin the game and try to continue play while you use your hands, tongue, a feather, and other objects erotic to distract her. Blocking vision, interfereing with controls, or bumping elbows unnessasarily is a foul move.
You WILL be able to tell by verbal utterances when you have caused sufficient distraction. When she has lost all her “lives” then it is your turn to get “distracted”.
I’d suggest Unreal Tournament, unless it falls into your definition of fighting games (I think of fighting games as things like Mortal Kombat, so I thought perhaps UT was a worthy suggestion). Capture the Flag is a lot of fun on UT; my boyfriend and I alternate that with Deathmatch. It’s another two-computer deal, though.
I’ve pretty much sucked at everything Square Soft has put out, but I love watching others play, so I’d also vote for any of the Final Fantasy games and also Parasite Eve. My brother has played PE II as well, but I haven’t seen it.
For the alternate interpretation of your request, I suggest you play Plumber and act out a service call or two
My SO and I like to play cards together. Our favorite game is Cribbage… not many people have ever heard of it, let alone played it, but it’s one of our favorite games. I also downloaded Cribbage on the computer but only one person can play at a time and the computer cheats!!
If you’re looking for more “hands on” fun… I would suggest going to an “adult” store and buying some games there… there’s tons of stuff to choose from. The “Wheel of Passion” is a lot of fun and I know this from personal experience. If you guys are newlyweds you should be busy playing in every room of the house and doing it 5-6 times a day! What are you doing on the computer??
Both of those are of the mystery genre. There’s enough movie segment involved to keep you interested, and enough puzzle involved to make you want to tear out your hair. Pandora Directive is a 6 CD set, and Overseer is 5. Overseer also includes a DVD with the entire game on it so that you don’t have to swap disks.
My SO and I are both gamers, and we each have our prefrences. Some games we agree on are:
For the Playstation:
[li]Bust a Move (pop colored bubbles by shooting colored bubbles)[/li][li]Super Puzzle Figher 2 (like Tetris, but cooler)[/li][li]Tekken 3 (We whomp on each other regularly)[/li][li]You Don’t Know Jack (What a great trivia game!!)[/li][li]Diablo (for the PSX, it’s two player!)[/li]
For the PC:
[li]Dungeon Keeper 2 (This game is great! One player, but my girl likes to watch)[/li][li]The Sims (I like to build the houses, she likes to play the characters. Match made in heaven!)[/li]
Board games:
Cuz if you’re secure in your relationship, break out the Playstation from the closet, go find a copy of Speed Punks, and take each other on in two player racing.
[sub]Disclaimer: Poster will not be held responsible for any acts of domestic violence that occur as a result of winning and/or losing races in this game[/sub]
Or for a less antagonistic experience (but still with some friendly spousal competition) try the two player options in games like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Gran Turismo, or (insert maniacal laughter here) Syphon Filter 2.
