news crew gets mugged covering the Kate Steinle shooting in San Francisco.

We’ve had reporters do stand ups in war zones all over the world. Reporters in the midst of riots.

This news crew gets mugged in broad daylight, and with cameras live at Pier 60 in San Francisco California? They were covering the random shooting of Kate Steinle.
Wow. what a wonderful world we’ve created. I guess no one wears flowers in their hair anymore.

they were covering this story.

btw, is this pier close to the *famous *Santa Monica Pier? The one often filmed for tv and movies? Has a ferris wheel, and other carnival rides with shopping and restaurants close by? We always wanted to visit it.

Now, probably not.

The media-popular Santa Monica Pier, endpoint of the last revised version of US 66, is in Santa Monica, Los Angeles County. Waaaaay downstate. Visit in peace, I recommend it. Greatly enjoyed.

Nope, the Santa Monica Pier is in Santa Monica, which is right next to (basically surrounded by) Los Angeles.

News crews have been robbed in Oakland before. This is the first time I’m aware of it happening in San Francisco.

I’ll bet it was teh Mexicans.

Glad to hear its well away from San Francisco’s piers. Santa Monica Pier has been our wish list to see for awhile.

Not sure whats going on in San Francisco. Perhaps more police patrols are needed at the scenic public areas? <shrug> I live over 1800 miles away. Don’t know how much they patrol already.

By the way, the incidents were at Pier 14, not Pier 60. I don’t think there is a Pier 60.

Google Maps shows a Pier 50 then a Pier 80. There are some un-named things that sure LOOK like piers around the Central Basin area off of 18th & Illinois. But no Pier 50.

And, as a working cameraman for 35 years, FUCK those idiots.:mad::mad::mad:

Did you really just ask if a pier in San Francisco was close to a pier in Los Angeles? Yeah sure they’re just a short 380 mile walk away.

I live 1800 miles away and have absolutely no geographic knowledge of California. Why would I?

I’ve heard many city names in movies, tv and crime reports. But the distances between them? I have no clue. Don’t particularly care. Anyone in California care how far it is from Little Rock to Texarkana? Little Rock to Memphis? Probably not. My local cities don’t get the national attention as those in California.

Countdown to calls for armed cameramen in 3…2…1…

After the robberies in Oakland some camera crews were taking armed security guards with them when they went to certain neighborhoods.

The shooting and subsequent robberies at Pier 14 are pretty unexpected. That area doesn’t have much violent crime. Murders and violent robberies just don’t happen there very often. The shooter had no relationship to the victim and seemingly had no motivation.

A fifth generation one.

They were robbed and pistol-whipped, not raped.

Or offered drugs.

You’ve never looked at a map? I mean, I live in Texas, and I knew that the Santa Monica pier is either in or near Los Angeles, which is nowhere near San Francisco.

And… if I had to guess, I’d say it’s probably 100 miles from Texarkana to Little Rock, and probably more like 125 from there to Memphis. (looking on a map, I see that I’m actually off by 44 miles in the first case, and about 10 in the second)

But still in the ballpark…

Pistol whipping is due for a comeback.

Assault rifle whipping just never caught on.

The high cost of ammunition will drive a rise in pistolwhipping for sure.
