I can’t think of a match-up I’d like more than the sorry-ass, can’t-win-a-game Giants coming into the Linc. Honestly, can I sign up now? The Birds’ O line will push around that rickety bunch of losers the Giants trot out to the line of scrimmage like the little girls that they are. And I would love–love–to see our defense line up against Eli. Don’t get me wrong, his nerves of steel and impeccable on-field decisions are cause for concern. Really. I just want to see him play 'cause of the challenge he’ll create for us. Yeah, that’s it.
Eagles crush whichever lame-ass bunch of losers stagger into the Linc in the first round. I can only hope it’s the Giants, since it can’t be the 'Boys.
I think you missed a key part of the post: "Hal’s Current Football Fantasy"
Fortunately, the reality is that there is every chance that there will be a Giants/Eagles postseason matchup, and it’s the prevailing Philly attitude that you exemplify that’ll make this such a sweet matchup. The Eagles are, by definition, losers. As the standard bearers for Loser City, the Land of the Runner-Up, the Scumbirds thrive on being the underdog – it’s the only way they’ve managed to stumble and bumble their way to any of their successes.
A few short weeks ago, the Scumbirds were where they deserved to be…down, beaten, a bright spot on an opponent’s upcoming schedule. That’s when they’re the most dangerous. All of Philly, Land of the Turncoat Fan, was calling Howard Eskin and railing about what bums and losers the Scumbirds were. That’s when the Scumbirds rise up, giving all their fans a golden opportunity to hypocritically proclaim their “undying” loyalty for their beloved Scumbirds once again.
And now that they’ve managed one of the ultimate stumbles and bumbles – going from 5-6 to…dare I say it…a division crown – they’re all set to give their fans what they truly deserve: A typical Scumbird letdown.
Judging by your confidence, I’ll assume you’re new to being an Eagles fan. Talk to me again in a week and a half.
So, it’s an implosion you’re expecting then? Well, at least now you’re thinking realistically.
Man, that’s the one bad thing about telecommuting – I don’t get to talk all this fun smack face to face with my coworkers anymore.
Unlike that testament to football excellence that is the Giants, eh? Is this where you devastate me with a reference to a Super Bowl win 15 years ago? It is to laugh! A Giants fan talking smack to an Eagles fan! A fan of possibly the most pathetic team to make the play-offs ever–assuming the Giants don’t characteristically @#$% it up and lose the “Best of the Worst” sweepstakes currently underway in the NFC–talking smack to a life-long fan of that dynamic, powerful, world-beating team, the Eagles! The Giants, a team that has lost 6 of their last 7 games, versus…the Eagles, the pinnacle of all that is good and virtuous and excellent in sports…as I said, it is to laugh.
I can’t wait for us to squash your miserable Giants, mash them into an unrecognizable mound of loser paste. I almost feel sorry for them. Almost.
I have a sinking feeling in my stomach that the Giants are going to completely implode against the Redskins tomorrow, and then while cleaning out their lockers on Sunday will be informed that they actually made the playoffs. It’s just so sad, but after a Giants loss, they still make the playoffs if:
Note that the Packers, Falcons, Panthers and Rams (and Giants) are ALL on the road this week. If they all lose, Giants are in. The only one of the five that looks to even have a remote chance to win is St Louis.
Uh…go Jets?
Cite for any instance of the Eagles beating the world? Every season they’ve ever had has ended in defeat. That is the definition of a loser.
Also, keep in mind that if a Giants fan can’t cite the two Lombardi Trophies because they’re in the past, then so are the Eagles’ three straight NFCCC chokes followed by a Superbowl choke. Hell, the Giants had a Superbowl choke in 2000; you don’t see any fans bragging about that, do you? Eagles bragging is just so…sad.
Giants are dead in the water. The same coach that everyone was fellating last year is a bum.
Tiki’s gone, but Brandon Jacobs looks like he’ll pan out nicely. You guys better have a backup when he inevitably breaks his leg in week 3 next year.
So far, Eli doesn’t have “it”. I haven’t watched a ton of Giants games and haven’t had the opportunity or desire to, but from what I’ve seen, he just doesn’t have it.
Would I rather have Rivers over Eli? Perhaps. Rivers is being asked to Roethlisberger his way into the playoffs, and there’s no shame there. To me, it’s still too early to tell with the Rivers/Manning debacle, but putting the draft picks into consideration, You’ve got to go with the Chargers and Rivers. The Giants tried to pull a gambit and so far, it’s simply not working as intended.
I’m not following it close, but don’t the Packers have a shot at the Bears, who already have home field locked up and have no reason to play their starters extensively? If you forced me to bet my house, I’d say the Giants make the pay-offs, but it’s not completely far-fetched that they lose and the Packers win (especially the Giants losing yet another game part).
Nonsense. We won the championship in 1960. BTW, when a Giant fan refers to past victories, it’s pathetic. An Eagle fan doing so is justly pointing out a proud tradition of winning, in case you’re wondering. It’s a subtle distinction.
You don’t see me bragging about past seasons (other than correcting you that the Eagles have never won a championship). I am only reasonably pointing out that the ass-kicking Eagles just won 4 in a row, including 3 road games against division opponents (a feat accomplished only twice previously since the AFL merger). I forget which team was in the middle of that 3-game road stretch. Can you remind me?
You want to talk about something so…sad? The Giants have lost 6 of their last 7. Let me repeat that: 6 of their last 7. That’s what makes it silly for a Giants fan to talk smack to an Eagles fan, a fan of the soon-to-be division winner. I’m responding just out of tradition and principle, since the Giants longstanding loathsomeness makes a response satisfying. Their competitiveness clearly doesn’t.
I used sad in my last post to mean not quite pathetic. The Giants last 7 games qualify as full-on pathetic.
hehheh, I like your smacktalk.
The Eagles are almost as impressive as the Bills when it comes to world beating, though the Bills were clearly more impressive. I trust you never made fun of a Bills fan in the 90s…
As for the Packers, I would expect the Bears scout team to smoke them. IMO, the only chance for the Giants to be eliminated is the Rams.
The Cowboys looked very inconsistent, especially against a Detroit team that was 2-13 before today. Romo is the very definition of the word “butterfingers.”
Looks like we’ll see you (and kick the crap out of you) next week, Giants fans!
The 'Boys couldn’t beat the 2 and 13 Lions, in a game that they had to win, AT HOME, against a team that would have wrapped up the top draft pick if they lost…and they crapped the bed. My God, what heartless dogs! That was truly a gift to the Birds, who were able to play their JV and still beat the dysfunctional Falcons. Now we get to play the Giants, at the Linc, with rested starters. We will crush those bums, who had to battle to win a game against the 'Skins. The 5 - 10 (at the time) Redskins, playing what was for them a meaningless game.
You can’t wait? How do you think the Giants faithful feel? Most of the time, we have to be content passively pointing and laughing as the Eagles fail year after year after year. This time around, it’ll be our boys in blue who get to knock them out of the postseason. It’s almost a shame that the Cowboys didn’t manage to take the division title – that would’ve set up the even more delicious prospect of the Giants bitch-slapping the Eagles out of the NFC Championship Game (we all know how great the EagLLLes fare in that game), but Wild Card Weekend will have to do.
Say all you like about the Giants – they certainly make themselves easy to disparage. When you lead the league in injuries, bad things are bound to happen and it’s really a miracle they survived to make it to the postseason. But now that they’ve made it there, going up against the Eagles as a huge underdog is the surest road to success. There’s a reason thing like this exist – the Eagles are simply one of the most spectaular bunch of near-miss failures there is.
Oh, and here’s a hint – when you want to get a good media opinion, try not to go with a registered mouthpiece. Getting Jeff Offord to pimp the Eagles is like getting Rush Limbaugh to say nice things about the Bush administration.
Now then, if I can step back from the smack talk for a sec, I’d like to open up my home to any of our area NYG/PHI fans who may want to get together for this one. We’re in Mount Holly, NJ, a little less than a half hour from the Betsy Ross.
Kickoff is at 4:30 on Sunday, but if you need to see the earlier Jets/Pats game, we’ll certainly have that one on as well. Contact info is in the profile – love to have a chance to bring some of this lively, cordial debate into the real world.
Yep, you’re right. The Giants storming into the post season winning 2 of their last 8 has me absolutely quaking with terror. Really. If only we could become that one team (among almost every other) that can find the key to defeating the Giants. How to do it? How to do it? Oh! I know. Show up.
Again a Giants fan talking smack to an Eagles fan, it is to laugh…why am I even entertaining this nonsense? Ah, well, it’s the least I can do to provide some diversion to the lesser fans, since they’ll soon find themselves with a lot of extra time on their hands.
