Let’s keep in mind – yes, this was a God-awful weekend in the NFC East, but the result of last night’s game was the preferable one. The Giants already went into Dallas and spoiled their coming-out party, so it’s better that the Cowboys have the advantage rather than the Scumbirds.
Things are looking up for Cowboys fans. We just beat the Eagles, the Giants are in a slump, the Redskins are a catastrophe and none of the next three games are against winning opponents. I wonder what the over/under on Demarcus Ware’s sacks will be against the porous Green Bay line next week.
This is true, but I hate the Boys being in first.
Don’t worry…December is right around the corner.
What game were you watching? In the one I saw it sure looked like they won. Looking at the stat sheet it sure looks like they won.
Cowboys led in 1st Downs 18 17, 3rd down efficiency 7-15 4-12, Total Plays 61 57, Total Yards 358 297, Passing 282 208, Comp-Att 21-34 16-30, Yards per pass 8.3 6.9, Penalties 11-70 8-82, Turnovers 1 2, Time of Possession 31:44 28:16.
“Steal”? Hardly. It was a well fought, close game and one team did what it took at the end to put it away.
As a Giants fan, I have to say that so far this season has been like the first part of a rollercoaster. Waaay up, then waaay down. I can only hope that like most rollercoasters, this is the bottom and things either go up or sideways from here. I can’t take anymore down.
You’ll excuse us, the fans of 1-7 teams, if we don’t shed a tear for you.
Here’s the rankings at the halfway point, excluding Thursday’s game:
#1 AFC South 12-7 (63%)
#2 NFC East 13-10 (57%)
#3 AFC North 11-9 (55%)
#4 NFC South 13-11 (54%)
#5 NFC North 10-10 (50%)
#5 AFC East 9-9 (50%)
#7 AFC West 8-12 (40%)
#8 NFC West 7-15 (32%)
#1 AFC 19-16 (54%)
#2 NFC 16-19 (46%)
Games are about to start so I’ll just make a couple quick observations. The NFC – and the NFC East specifically – really shit the bed in the second quarter. The East went 2-6 while the conference as a whole went 4-12. The fact that the East is still ranked #2 after that miserable a second quarter demonstrates how impressive the first quarter lead really was.
The NFC North wasn’t much better, going 3-7 in the second quarter and dropping down from #2 to a two-way tie for #5.
It’s interesting that only two divisions are under .500, and of course they’re the two putrid western divisions. They are a true marvel of consistency out there.
Anyone else notice that the other teams in the AFC South are taking it in turns to finish second to the Colts? Well, Tennessee won the division, but everyone knew they weren’t winning the Super Bowl.
The AFC South is really starting to pull away from the East, what with Indy and Jacksonville pulling out last minute wins while the Titans leveled Buffalo. I think the Texans might have had a bye, so that’s 3-0 for the South as they feasted on the comically inept AFC East. Meanwhile, both the Cowboys and Eagles lost, so the NFC East will have to rally in a major way if they hope to catch up.
Let’s hear it for the Redskins, way to represent for both the division and the conference.
Hail to the Redskins
Hail victory
Braves on the warpath
Fight! For ol’ DC
The Texans were indeed on a bye - not that anyone other than people with Texans on their fantasy teams noticed.
So…Atlanta @ NYG this week. Will we see 13-in-a-row?
13 of what in a row? Bad fantasy performances from Brandon Jacobs?
The away team has won every contest dating back to the 80s regardless of who was having a better year at the time.
Giants are 6.5 point favorites. I just can’t see why they’d be favored by more than a field goal.
So, you know, bet the farm on New York.
Michael Turner is out, or at least very banged up, and Ryan appears to be going through a bit of a sophmore slump.
Oh cool, an NFC East thread. Are there any other Redskins fans here? Misery loves company.
Dan Snyder drove them off.
Yeah, no kidding…the worst aspect of this season is that now, after plucking Sherman Lewis from the bingo hall, they’re actually playing a little bit better, only reinforcing Snyder’s propensity for meddling needlessly.
The following prediction is offered only half jokingly:
Chainsaw Dan will hire a medium and pay her $14,000,000 per season to ask Vince Lombardi what plays to run.
