NFC East 2009

I was just thinking how I always associate dirtbaggery with the Eagles, so it’s weird to see the Cowboys taking on that role.

I don’t agree with you about the tripping, though. I mean yeah, the first time against Tuck was a bummer about the injury but not in itself a major deal. It’s the fact that he blatantly did it again, later in that very same game against Osi – even though the tactic had already injured someone – that elevated it to dirtbag status.

Looks like for the rest of the season, the mjor story in the NFL will involve the NFC East. The East has the biggest divisional battle by a mile, and even ignoring that, if you look the schedule for most of the powerhouses in the league, their big games are against the NFC East. Can’t wait to see Omni lose his mind when the SNF games for the rest of the season justifiably include NFC East teams.

Yeah. It’s funny, but I didn’t like the pick at all when the Eagles made it. I hate rooting for the guy too, he seems like an ass. Seems to be the new Steve Smith (Car).

You should go hide under your bed now because Jeremy Maclin is having a better rookie season than DeSean Jackson had. I have a feeling the next three seasons are going to be a lot of fun.

On Monday morning’s SportsDesk they showed some oldtimers being introduced as honorary captains on the field before the game. As Tiki Barber was introduced, the crowd booed. It was not a small or halfhearted boo, either.

heh.

Yeah, the two of them make for a damn dangerous combo – going to be tricky for the Giants to get back-to-back divisional wins this week.

Now, on to other matters: Fuck you, Roger Goodell. Let’s take a trip down memory lane, shall we?

In Week 2, Flozell Adams intentionally tripped Justin Tuck, giving Tuck a partially torn labrum. For this, Adams received 15-yard penalty and $7,500 fine.

Later that same game, Adams trips Osi Umenyiora, landing another 15-yard penalty and $7,500 fine.

The following week, Adams pulls the same shit with a trip against Julius Peppers. Another 15-yard penalty, and another $7,500 fine.

But even though was being a wuss by not levying heavier fines as Adams kept committing the same infraction, Goodell let Adams know the this bullshit had to stop. Adams was warned that if he had any further transgressions he would be “heavily fined and suspended.” Note the “and” there.

So, last week Justin Tuck spends the first half showing Adams what a washed-up bum he is, so Adams reverts to his true bitch-form. As the teams are walking off the field, Adams gives Tuck a sucker-shot in the back and takes a swing at Osi.

“Awesome,” thinks me, “This punk-ass is going to be on the sideline for the rest of the season once Goodell sees this tape”. So what’s “Iron-Fist” Goodell’s crushing punishment for this horse-shit? $30,000 fine.

Fuck you, Goodell – I sincerely hope the next guy that Adams puts on IR with his cheap-ass tactics hands you your own teeth. This petulant man-child doesn’t have a single iota of business being on a football field with professionals.

Not quite. He’s got more touchdowns, but at his current pace he’ll finish with fewer receptions and yards, and has a lower per-catch average. He also doesn’t have Jackson’s added dimensions as a rusher and punt returner.

Perhaps most importantly, DeSean Jackson didn’t have DeSean Jackson to draw coverage away from DeSean Jackson, as it were.

This isn’t to say that Maclin isn’t going to be a very good pro, or that he isn’t having an excellent rookie season, because he is. I still think the Eagles should have gone for a big guy to complement Jackson instead of a clone, but he is looking like the best receiver in that draft right now.

A-Fucking-MEN!

That’s been the biggest problem I’ve had with GODell…his punishments are inconsistently applied. It’s like he uses a dartboard to select them. Or has a list of teams that need “to be taught lessons” (like my Bengals) and other teams that receive a “get out of jail free card”, like members of his beloved Steelers and big-market teams like the Cowgirls.

Agreed, Adams is a punk and I have no respect for Goodell at this point.

Ochocinco also drew a $30,000 fine for the poncho/sombrero thing. Year, that seems proportional.

$50,000

Exactly. Because as we all know, not violating the integrity of the uniform is far more important than protecting player’s careers.

Argh – you’re correct. I had Ochocinco’s fine on my mind when I typed that.

Well, technically Maclin will finish with exactly the same amount of catches as Jackson had in 08 if he keeps up his current pace. The total yards will be fewer, and no, Maclin isn’t the threat as a rusher or punt returner that Jackson is. And no, Jackson didn’t have anyone opposite him like Maclin has had this season, which is a fine point. But all that aside, and for the most part you’re right, you’re still wrong on the overall picture. Maclin is having a better rookie season as a receiver. His catch percentage is significantly higher (63% to 51%, and Jackson hasn’t improved over last season much). He’s had fewer drops (2 to 5, a statistic that Jackson has actually regressed in)., And Maclin hasn’t fumbled yet, which Jackson did four times in his rookie season. Maclin has been more more consistent and polished this season than Jackson was last season.

I thought the same when the pick was made. It’s turning out that they complement each other extremely well on the field, even if they’re somewhat similar. Both are very fast, but Maclin is taller (6’ to 5’10", listed) and seems better at going up to get a ball than Jackson is. With both having great top speed, it’s tough for a defense to determine who is going deep on any particular play. And since Jackson is so good at catching and running, and Maclin better at pulling tough tough passes, both are a threat underneath too. It’s a really exciting pairing, and I’m happy to admit how wrong I was about both guys.

I just hope it isn’t screwed up when McNabb is shipped out of town after this season and Kolb takes over. Though with Jackson, Maclin, McCoy, and now Celek, I can;t imagine Kolb could mess it up too badly. But as an Eagles fan, I know better than to hope too much.

Good to see you back. Where have you been?

Here’s the division standings through the first three quarters:

#1 AFC South 18-8 (69%)
#2 NFC East 18-14 (56%)
#3 NFC North 16-14 (53%)
#4 NFC South 16-16 (50%)
#4 AFC West 14-14 (50%)
#6 AFC East 12-14 (46%)
#7 AFC North 12-16 (43%)
#8 NFC West 10-20 (33%)

#1 AFC 26-22 (54%)
#2 NFC 22-26 (46%)

The third quarter was not kind to the AFC North in particular.

Cowgirls lose. Now if only the Giants pull off a win tonight, this will make for one hell of a race to the playoffs.

Good start!

Anyone gonna play any defense tonight?

The Giants would have scored 35 in the first half of this game if their receivers had even one pair of good hands among all of them.

Might as well toss the RB in there, too.
