NFC East 2010

Remind me who the big loss was and who replaced him. Was it Flozell Adams, and was he replaced by the guy who used to be his backup, a rookie draft pick (high/low?), or a free agent?

Adams was replaced by Doug Free. He seems to be doing ok. Columbo and Kosier are injured. ON top of it, the offense seemed ill prepared in general. Blown signals, bad formations, burning time outs just to get organized, false start after a time out, failing to adjust to the blitz, Romo getting hit, 13 yards rushing, etc.

maybe put mc gee out there. at least he is used to getting hit. plus he couldn’t do any worse.

I didn’t see the whole game last night, but what I did see: yikes. They looked like a neighborhood intramural team out there. If I were a Cowboys fan, I would be seriously concerned - that was embarrassing.

Dez is cleared to play. That’ll fix everything.

I think Giants and Cowboys fans are united in relief that this year isn’t an 18 game schedule. I know I would hate for this past week’s games to have been opening day.

Jim Sorgi and (oh, it’s about fucking well time) Sinorice Moss – both placed on IR.

I’d imagine the Ravens are going to make a lot of teams look bad this year. And Houston has a good team, they’re going to do well this year.

Cut down day today, where all teams have to get down to 53. Here’s an article discussing the Giants final roster. Highlights include:

  • They cut Rhett Bomar and traded for Sage Rosenfels, carrying just 2 QBs on the team.
  • In that Rosenfels trade they also got Darius Reynaud, apparently a good return man.
  • Victor Cruz made the team, of course, as did Duke Calhoun. Sinorice Moss is finally gone, sadly so is Derek Hagan.
  • Superbowl-clinching DT Jay Alford is gone. (He sacked Brady on that final desperation drive.)
  • Longtime LT project Guy Whimper is gone.

EDIT: It was pointed out on the giants.com forums that this final roster includes only 23 players from the 07 Superbowl team. More than half of those guys are gone one way or another. This is a fact of life for all teams in the NFL, of course, but man, that’s some insane turnover after a mere two seasons.

Are the Panthers as bad as they looked or should I actually be feeling pretty good about the Giants D?
Eli hung too many passers out to dry yesterday but he did miss much of the pre-season. I’m hoping it was just rust. The O-line and thus the RBs looked better and better as the game went on.
The coaching staff seemed to make excellent 2nd half adjustments to the game plan.
The special teams looked bad and the rookie punter looked very bad. I hope for him it was nerves.

Big picture: Giants won, Eagles lost, and the Cowboys and Redskins put on a contest to see who can play the more inept version of the game. Thing of beauty, that day was…

True, but there were aspects of the game yesterday that I did not like for the Giants. But I saw much that gave me hope except special team play.
Philly is heading into a clear QB controversy that might be a coach killer.
Cowboys did not look good, Romo did not look good. Redskins looks about how I expected to be truthful.

I was encouraged and annoyed all at the same time. Encouraged because even though yesterday was one of those off days where Eli threw everything high, his high balls were still catchable. That’s how you get receivers killed, of course, but it’s better than back in the day when his high balls sailed 10 feet over the head of Burress straight into the waiting arms of a safety.

I was annoyed because all 3 picks bounced off receivers hands, so I don’t feel like any of those picks were earned by Eli. First Nicks, then Beckham then Barden all let passes bounce right off their hands, up into the air, right to a defender. That’s so not cool, and those weren’t the only drops.

The NFC is a loose ball right now. Which doesn’t indicate that any of the teams will end up in the big one. But the season just started, and there are fresh questions about teams all over the NFL. I’ll be looking for the two WAS v PHI games, and the rematch with Dallas. But I’m a Skins fan. The game I want to see without the Skins is Peyton v Eli, coming up Sunday. It probably won’t live up to the hype, but any chance of seeing Peyton get his assed kicked by his little brother is worth anticipating.

I’d love it if it went down similarly to how the last one did, with Eli and the Giants getting the ball deep in their own territory down by 5 with only a couple minutes left in the game. I have every confidence in his ability to lead a game-winning drive in such a circumstance.

The only reason that game ended the way it did is because Eli’s successful 20-yard pass to Tim Carter on 3rd and long drew a bogus offensive PI call. Total crock.

I’ll enjoy a close game. I think Eli is smarter than Peyton. I’ll be looking for the surprise. It’s too early to tell for this season, but I thought Peyton would be going in with the better team. Now, I’m not so sure. Best fun game I see for this weekend.

How 'bout the "Skins?!?!

They got lucky.

Maybe a little lucky but the Cowboys have a lot of talent and two key problems I think. The coach and the QB. How much to you trust either Bearflag70? The QB is probably good enough to keep trying with him but why is the coach still there?

I’m fine with Tony Romo, but that line needs to step it up.
