Romo is fine.
Wade is fine.
Garrett’s gotta go.
Romo is fine.
Wade is fine.
Garrett’s gotta go.
I dunno if Garrett even needs to go, but rather someone else take over the play calling. He designs some good plays but has a bit of Reid in him at times.
The Cowboys don’t need to change a thing. Everything is fine just the way it is, especially in the coaching staff. Same goes for the Eagles.
Well of course Hal, silly me. What was I thinking. Forget what I said guys.
Dallas showed urgency, balanced playcalling, and some strength in the OLine. Roy Williams deserves some praise finally.
Giants and Skins lose.
Out of the 0-2 basement and headed for the top!
Amazing that there has been no mention of Michael Vick and the Eagles… they looks surprisingly good today vs. the Jaguars. Next week should be a fun game to watch.
Yes. it will be interesting to watch the Philly defensive line against McNabb.
It’s all relative, as the top of the NFC East at this point doesn’t appear to be much of an accomplishment.
I hate Dallas with a passion and was thoroughly enjoying their 0-2 start, and sincerely thought they’d lose to Houston, but the rational side of my brain knew that even at 0-3 it’d only take one win to put them back in the mix in this train wreck of a division.
I have to say, the division is largely playing out as I thought it would… except I genuinely believed the Redskins would be better than the Eagles.
I added the numbers
So the Giants go on the road to Dallas, effectively end the Cowboys’ season by knocking them to 1-5, take sole possession of 1st place in the division, and demonstrate once again that, but for their (admittedly troubling) habit of turning the ball over 3 or 4 times a game, they can pretty much dominate most opponents. I’d call that a successful contest.
By my count (going by memory) 7 or 8 of Eli’s 11 picks bounced off his own receiver’s hands before being picked. Greeny gave that question to Merrill Hodge as homework; hopefully he’ll have the definitive answer on Thursday.
It’s super frustrating to have RBs fumbling the ball. WTF? Coughlin should be able to fix that shit as easily as he did with Tiki.
Many of us are agreed that Philly’s QB situation is fucked – they’ve hitched their star to Michael Vick, who’s too poor a passer to be a significant contributor to a Super Bowl contender, and in the process they’ve likely forced themselves to cut ties with Kevin Kolb, who’s probably a better bet.
I’m now also thinking that Dallas is about to screw themselves at QB as well. My theory is this: Yes, the Cowboys are worse than most people thought they were at the beginning of the season, but they’re still an exceptionally good 1-5 team; none of their losses have been by more than 7 points, and each of them has been at the hands of at least a reasonably good opponent. Even with Jon Kitna at the helm, they’re too talented not to rally and finish with 6, 7, or even 8 wins. Once this happens, fans and the media will forget about context or relevant stats, and focus almost exclusively on Wins. The current, relatively quiet supply of Romo-criticism will explode: if we could go 5-4 or 6-3 with Jon Kitna as our Quarterback, what the hell is wrong with Tony Romo that he led that same team to a 1-5 record?! In the offseason, Dallas will bring in someone to compete with and/or replace Romo (maybe Kevin Kolb!), or perhaps even cut bait and just get rid of him. Best case scenario, they draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd Round and Romo has to look over his shoulder every time he throws an interception.
To cut to the point, I think the Giants’ long-term prospects within the division are looking a little brighter today.
I decided after last year that I was taking football too seriously, that the losses bothered me more than they should, and to really take a much more moderate, casual approach to the season and the Cowboys. Holy shit, talk about timing! If only I could have the same success with the Dow.
So yeah, the season’s over early and that’s fine with me because there’s some real issues that have been festering for a long time and maybe now this will be the impetus for the team to start kicking some internal ass and make the difficult decisions, cuts and hires to make them competitive again. Course, the bad thing is we’ve still got as an owner an egotistical, meddling, offspring of Satan that’ll get in the way of those that actually know a thing or two about football until he drawns his last breath. Contempt for him idoesn’t exist just outside the state.
I think you’re giving the Cowboys a bit too much credit.
20 of their points last night were due to a handful of plays that turned out spectacularly bad for the Giants. Balls through receivers hands for interceptions, fumbles and a big punt return. They scored those first 20 points while their longest drive was 20 yards. The rest of the time, until late in the 4th, the Cowboys did nothing.
When you’re given that many gift points, you need to step up and at least be competitive, they couldn’t even manage that.
Hey, I’m definitely hoping the Cowboys pick up another four or five wins over the season. I’d hate for them to get too high of a draft pick.
Also as a **Giants **fan I hope they keep their coach. I like the job he is doing.
I think this opening statement is crazy. It would seem even less so if Vick hadn’t been injured, and I’m no Vick fan…but did you watch the games he did play in? The entire offense was more dynamic under him. Kolb is the one who sucks. If I were Reid I’d be riding the resurgence of Vick too.
As much as I dislike the guy, he’s played balls out until the rib injury. There’s not really any reason to expect that he’ll fall off from that when he comes back after the bye. Dude has been electric for the Philly offense this season, despite his poor stats as a thrower in the NFL prior to now.
He won’t hurt my fantasy team much either, if he returns to pre-injury form…
As a Dallas fan, I kinda look forward to doing other things on Sundays.
Kolb doesn’t suck. Not even close. But at this point, we might as well start calling him Kevin “Obama” Kolb for the ridiculously unreasonable expectations right out of the gate. The dude has 5 career starts (6 if you count the GB game where he lasted a quarter). Count every start he’s ever made and his career numbers are 130/203 (64% completion) 1552 yards (258/gm), 9TD 6INT. And, again, that’s counting the 5/10 24yd stink bomb he put up against GB in week one this season. For a guy who hasn’t even had a half of a season under his belt, that’s actually extraordinary. To say Kolb sucks is embarrassingly unwise. (And how come no one remembers that DeSean Jackson was out against Tennessee? How come Kolb gets blamed for a mediocre game that the defense gave away when he didn’t even has his #1? WTF is going on here?)
Of course Reid and the Eagles will fuck this up and extend Vick and dump Kolb. Nevermind that Kolb is essentially a rookie and as such should be expected to have ups and downs… no, Reid is starting to feel the heat from all his near-misses and is pressured to win now. That means Vick. I’m not a fan of trying to win with a historically poor passing QB who is now 30 and still relies heavily on athleticism to be effective. But, if anyone can make Vick an effective passer, Reid and company can. He turned McNabb into a very effective pocket passer (his biggest knock was always his accuracy, and while he’ll never be a sniper back there, he had three straight 60%+ seasons before he left for Washington). Vick has been effective as a passer all season thus far. Maybe it works, but it’s obviously not the right move for the future.
And if you ask me, it should be fairly obvious that this team went through a brief retooling transition and now needs some time to ripen. There’s a lot of young, fantastic talent on the roster, why get impatient now? With this team?
The ideal situation would be to play Vick out and hope for another playoff run to gain the roster some more much needed experience, then extend him and trade him away at the peak of his value. Stick with Kolb and let him work with all the weapons he has. I bet he eventually becomes an All-Pro.
My friend and I consult on GIANTS game every week. After week 1, I told him that Carolina played a better game
…if the goal was to lose the game.
That statement proved to be true in weeks 2 and 3, and again versus the Cowgirls. It is as if the GIANTS actively tried to throw the game, but the Cowgirls simply were much, much better at it.
Very true, but 3 or 4 of those bounces really weren’t catchable balls and just as likely to get picked. If the GIANTS don’t fix their giveaway issues, they won’t make the second round of the playoffs (and they’ll only make the first because of the travails of the rest of the NFC East).
