NFC East 2011

It was an impressive display. Never have I seen a running back put the team on his shoulders and gain six yards on two runs.

Let me see if I have this right. Matt Ryan is clutch because when he leads a touchdown drive, he’s good? Talk about cherry picking, my goodness. I’m pretty sure every single QB in the league has good stats when they lead touchdown drives. You want to talk situational stats?

Matt Ryan 2010 4th Qtr +/- 7pts:
65/99 648yds 65.7% 6.55YpA 5TD 3INT 88.3 QBRating
Average. Just about exactly where his overall career numbers are.

2009?
32/53 328yds 60.4% 6.19YpA 3TD 4INT 65.6 Rating
CLUTCH!

So the moral of this story is that you should be careful what you wish for. You were the one that brought up how Matt Ryan “thrives in the 4th” which is provably false. Now you deflect to something else entirely since that house of cards crashed all around you. Something else, like nearly everything you’ve said in this thread, which is provably false or completely misguided.

He also has the nickname “Matty Ice”. I believe that is worth ten points.

Jesus. Coach always did say “low man wins.” Took me 20 years, but I’m convinced.

It’s clips like that that cause irrational man love. I can’t wait to read my post in five years comparing Rolle to Ray Lewis. i’m embarrassed for myself already

Deflect? Oh, wow. Salvage whatever face you can by again using numbers that don’t truly reflect the situation.

Of course I didn’t mean he literally thrives every 4th quarter, notice how I made the comment in reference this comeback? There have been PLENTY of games where the Falcons were dominating in the 4th. You can understand how there is a desperation to win vs. cruising to victory.

Again, you’re using screwball numbers to try to downplay what he’s truly one of the best, if not the best at: game winning drives and 4th quarter comebacks.

But let’s use a fact that is plain as day to prove you are wrong in assuming Matt Ryan is run of the mill when it comes to winning where it matters most: the 4th quarter.

Who was tops in the entire league last year with come back wins? Matt Ryan (6 total).

So yes, continue to use whatever inapplicable figures and numbers you want but you can’t dispute the fact that he was the best in the NFL last year at it and is tied for best with Ben Roethlisberger since 2008 (and that includes his rookie season).

Stay mad, Iggles fan. Maybe you’ll make it to the NFC Championship again some day, and presumably lose.

I can’t possibly explain how I feel about these Eagles in this space. It’s… complicated. They’re a complicated team. And for as bad as everything looks right now (it looks really fucking bad!) I can’t help but still feel pretty optimistic going forward.

The Eagles are very clearly getting everyone’s best shot this season, and rightfully so. Teams are extra motivated to bring them down. So far the Eagles aren’t strong enough to withstand that extra oomph. This is a team with as much turnover from last season as anyone in the league - many new players, new coaches, new schemes - and they had no time to install it. So they’re going to start slowly and have. And yet…

There is a dominant team lurking under their simple mistakes. The Eagles had outgained the Falcons by almost 3:1 before Vick got hurt. The Giants had 77% of their yards into the 4th quarter come on four plays (three because of easy missed tackles and one because of a blown assignment). You can fix bad tackling to an extent. You can coach better execution on assignments. They have been outscored 29-0 in the 4th in the last two weeks because their QB was out both times. They need to cut simple mistakes and finish a bit better and they’ll be fine.

Andy Reid teams almost always start slowly but they usually figure things out. The Eagles have significant problems - the LBs and run D stink but even more troubling is how poorly Asomugha is playing - but they’re fixable. And Andy Reid usually gets things fixed. He’s a career 66-33-1 in November and December.

Can’t help but think it’ll turn out the same this year.

Can’t believe the Redskins kept the Cowboys out of the end zone all night last night, and still managed to lose. 18-16, six field goals for Dallas.

The real problem, AFAIAC, was that the Redskins’ offense was pretty mush shut down after getting the game’s only TD to go up 16-9. The rest of the game, they punted from their 25, their 28, their 49, and fumbled at their 35 to end the game. Meanwhile, the Cowboys put together those last 3 FG drives to win it.

Holy crap, really? I was so disgusted with that game, six 1st half filed goals and then Dallas settling for yet another in the 4th quarter when the defensive hold gave them a first and goal that I just turned the damn thing off, expecting the Skins to drive and win by 8.

The Cowboys offense looked like shit. Nobody could block, no running game, not a wide receiver in sight to throw it to, no one even knew where to line up or what route to run. It was pathetic and barely acceptable for a frikkin’ pick-up game.

I don’t know what’s happened to the team that dominated the Jets for 3 1/2 but I’ll not waste my time paying attention to dreck like that.

They were healthy for the first half of the Jets game. Then that stopped being true.
Yes it was a disgusting game, and those left playing on offense really need to get their playbooks out and start re-reading.
Washington helped Dallas out by running into the solid D line. Ryan’s D plays kept Grossman confused. I’m still not sure why the Skins ran into the line so many times when the Cowboy’s secondary is playing with so many injuries and lower-level players. I’d have to guess that Ryan’s blitzes kept them from wanting to leave the ball in Grossman’s hands too long (see their last offensive play for why)
Offensively, I liked seeing Jones get 4-5 yds on first down so consistently. But penalties bringing back big pickups hurt and then there were the miscues. Hopefully those get fixed before the Lions’ game.

How are these comeback wins defined, exactly?

Felix Jones ran for 127 yards. :dubious:

It’s the same way the Redskins blew a 17 point lead against Houston last season. Jim Haslett loves him some blitzes, especially when they’re up. And, while the Cowboys had some problems with receivers running routes and a certain center snapping the ball friggin’ early on every drive, Dallas was able to make Washington pay for blitzing so much. Felix Jones had most of his yards when the box was stuffed.

If they played a more balanced defense, the Redskins could still be undefeated today.

Dallas - from worst to first!

Woot!

In other news, Phil Costa was admitted to the hospital last night for surgical removal of a football and Romo’s foot from his arse.

From what I’m reading, he was falling for the barking by the Skins defense.

Did Jerry grease the visitors sideline last night or what? Seemed like the Redskins were slipping a lot while the Cowboys weren’t at all.

As to the game, it was an infinitely winnable game for Washington that old ghosts returned to keep them from doing so. The botched FG, the poor red zone performance and the defense giving up big plays late all came back to haunt them as they have so many times in the past when they don’t close a team out when they should.

As far as Shanahan and Allen have brought them in two years, it’s readily apparent in losing a game the other team was desperately trying to give them that they’ve still got a long way to go.

I still think they’ll finish about .500 and take solace in the fact that all the other NFC East teams are struggling. Things can change over the course of 16 games, but right now it’s definitely looking like a pretty mediocre division winnable by any of the teams.

Isn’t that illegal? ISTR a penalty like that, “Simulating the start of a play” or something.
I think it ends up being a Defensive Delay of Game. I don’t have time to look into it, but will if no one comes up with it before I get back online.

Yes, it’s illegal. I don’t know if there is any truth to this, but I read that they asked the refs to enforce, but the refs didn’t. Romo was then getting mad at Costa because Costa kept falling for it and should have known to be more careful, especially after they knew the refs weren’t going to throw a flag on it. Stephen Bowen is a DE for the Skins, formerly of Dallas, who may have been able to help the Skins better understand the Dallas snap counts and Romo’s cadence.

One one hand - It ain’t cheating if you don’t get caught.
On the other hand - Those Bastards!
