The galling thing is the WR clearly checked with the official. It was obvious even on the TV coverage.
Yes, it’s technically the responsibility of the player, but if the official has confirmed he’s not lined up offside, there’s no reason for the player to doubt it. And then for that SAME official to throw the flag after telling the player he’s ok is totally ridiculous. That should never happen.
Jets coach Robert Saleh is attacking critics of QB Zach Wilson.
“The frustrating thing is that this kid is going to be a good quarterback, but the NFL and this new instant-coffee world that we’re in just doesn’t want to give people time,” Saleh said. “So, we look at him and he’s just nitpicked with a fine-tooth comb.”
Not to pick nits, but this is a drip coffee world, and a fine-toothed comb is far more effective in picking nits than a coarse-toothed comb.
Note that Saleh hasn’t specified who’s starting for the Jets on Thursday (his choices are Wilson, a backup with broken ribs or an unspecified nit).
The Packers stayed alive in the NFC playoff race, beating the Rams 24-12 at Lambeau in MNF; the loss eliminated the Rams from playoff contention, as well. At 4-10, Los Angeles has tied the record for most losses by a defending Super Bowl champ.
The Pack are now 6-8, still a game and a half behind the Commanders for the last wild-card spot.
Saleh is spinning so hard, it gives me vertigo from over here.
It’s not like people are knocking Wilson for his performance. Sure, new QBs may take time to develop and some never get there. They’re knocking his attitude and effort. At this point, few people have great expectations for Justin Fields (who the Jets also passed up) as the next great NFL QB either but nobody - not his coaches, teammates, or fans - say the same sorts of things about his demeanor and how he takes care of business during the week.
I was surprised by the reaction on Get Up yesterday. I agreed fully with Rex and Greenie who saw potential in him you could work with while also blaming the loss on the horrible clock management at the end, forcing a 58 yd field goal attempt on first down with 0:01 left in the game while still having an extra time out you didn’t even use.
Then Dan Orlavsky went on an extended rant about how the clock had nothing to do with it and the entire reason for the loss was that Kyle Wilson played terribly and is terrible.
One of the guys voiced my literal thought when he asked “did we watch the same game?” to which Orlavsky replied “apparently not.” They kept coming back to the topic during the show and he kept hammering the point that the only reason the Jets lost is because Kyle Wilson sucks.
So he is definitely getting flak, but to my mind it is seriously misplaced. Yes that laissez-faire interception was an abomination, where he half-heartedly flicked his wrist to sort of throw the ball away and it floated gently straight to the defender. But come on, there were some throws that showed real potential.
Of course he’s an entitled asshole. He was the number two draft in the NFL; I assume he’s been living a coddled bubble existence most of his life. But there is definitely some talent there. Coaches need to knock some sense into him. Hopefully the three game benching helped.
Looking back at that Commanders-Giants game…wow, there was a Giants defender, #5, who was meandering around in the Washington backfield for 2-3 full seconds, on the final Washington play, with no one blocking him, who could have sacked Heinecke any time he wanted but didn’t.
What, you mean like a spy? Haven’t deleted that game yet, and now I’m curious. #5 is rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux, by the way, who the Giants drafted 5th overall and is starting to look somewhat studly.
Looks like he pretty clearly got poked in the eye. After the play finally ends he’s not celebrating, he’s doubled over clutching his face. Looked like another Daniel Bellinger situation.
As the broadcast goes to the commercial break after the game, they show him taking off his helmet, rubbing his face, and say “Kayvon Thibodeaux banged up on the last play.”
Franco was one of my favorite NFL players during the '70s. It’s such a sad coincidence that the Steelers are going to be wearing throwback uniforms, with a commemorative patch of Harris, in this weekend’s game, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception, and retiring Harris’s #32.
After the record-setting loss to the Vikings last week, the Colts are benching Matt Ryan, in favor of Nick Foles. Coach Jeff Saturday says it’s his intent to have Foles finish out the season as the starter.
The Cardinals, who’ve already lost starter Kyler Murray to an ACL tear, have now also (at least temporarily) lost his backup, Colt McCoy, to the concussion protocol. Third-stringer Trace McSorley will make his first NFL start on Sunday.
Let me know so I can follow it. I’ll be at new boyfriends for the weekend. He says we are to root for the Jets to give the Browns a chance, though he knows I want the Ravens in there.just hoping for the Chiefs, really.
