NFL 2023 Preseason Thread

Jonathan Taylor was unable to swing a trade to another franchise, so he will miss the Colts’ first four games. Indy appears to be looking to have a “running back by committee” this season.

Good article on how running backs are screwed:

I’m hoping @Hamlet takes the lead on the weekly thread, at least to start. I’ll pitch in when needed, but I don’t have his eloquence or knowledge.

This has been ongoing for a while. Fullbacks basically don’t exist anymore and nobody wants to waste a first round pick on a RB anymore (unless you’re Seattle and then you get justifiably mocked). The run game is an afterthought in a lot of offenses and the RB position just isn’t valued. Plus it’s very physically demanding, most players are washed up by 30, and it’s rare for a RB to be able to play all year since you’re basically a human crash test dummy charging into a sea of giant physical freaks trained to kill you.

It’s the last position I’d ever want to play in the NFL.

Nick Bosa gets $122.5 million guaranteed on a five-year extension. $170 overall, so it’ll be described as $34 million per year.

Hamlet comes through.
