NFL 2023: Wildcard Weekend

That was the game that got me into nfl football. I was a senior in high school and was going to be moving to San Diego in the Fall for college. So the Chargers became my team.

The problems of the Eagles just got worse.

While not a perfect analogy, Odell Beckham Jr. and the wide receivers of the New York Giants partied in Miami the week before a playoff game in Green Bay in 2017. The temperature at kickoff was 8 degrees, with a 1 degree windchill. It went about as expected.

Bills/Steelers has been moved to Monday, which is probably the right call. Things seem to still be green lit in Kansas City for tonight. Someone’s really going to have Marquez Valdez Scantling dropping a pass in the end zone be the last thing they ever see before they succumb to hypothermia.

I was looking at the betting lines on that game this morning. The over/under was 33.5, and I was going to bet the under because of the impending blizzard. Glad I didn’t.

The over/under now, about four hours after I looked this morning, is 38. The Bills remain 9.5 point favorites.

Now I can’t find it, but I was reading yesterday about how the over more often wins in bad weather games. The bookies have already built weather into the line, but people reflexively bet under so the line is usually lower than it really should be.

This is true for cold weather and especially snow, which actually helps the offense more than defense. It is less true for high winds.

Correct. But since the forecast was for heavy snow, single-digit temps, and 40-60 mph winds, I was relatively certain that few points would be scored. (I certainly remember the ‘snowplow’ game, which ended 3-0.)

Guess we’ll never know.

I had never seen that before; it was amazing.

And disconcerting to see redneck fans waving huge confederate flags at a NCAA football game.

I think the Bills line is too high. Cold weather games can be unpredictable. I am kind of disgusted that I think I want Pittsburgh to win. I even really like Buffalo. But if the Steelers win then they play the Ravens and being an AFC North game they’re going to beat the shit out of each other. Which negates a lot of the rest advantage their bye week game. Or the Steelers may win. AFC North game, that shit happens, in which case the Browns can get a home game. But I don’t know that I can actually bring myself to cheer Pittsburgh if they’re not playing Baltimore.

Would you believe this is a historically great pass defense?

My God the receiver was tackled a full second before the ball got there and no call

Why are there so many bad calls by refs?

Haha that guy did some breakdancing on Flacco’s head but no call. Wtf are they doing this game?

That was humorous. And not intentional; momentum.

Refs like the Houston moneyline

Abysmal play by the Browns secondary, 3 blown coverages leading to 2 TDs and one overthrow which would have meant a third one.

We watched it live. Still the best playoff game ever. And Kellen Winslow is still my all-time favorite NFL player.

And its over.

Uggh, as soon as Flacco softly lobbed that pass half a mile in the air for grabs I knew it was bad news…

Two in a row. What a bozo.
