NFL 2024-25: Week 12

The Cowboys can top that; they haven’t taken a QB in the first round since Troy Aikman went #1 overall in 1989. The Cowboys have drafted only two first-round quarterbacks in their entire history, Aikman and Craig Morton (!).

And the Seahawks can top that; they have only drafted one first round QB in the entire history of the franchise. That was Rick Mirer in 1993, the second overall pick.

Of course, the Seahawks have only been drafting players since 1976, while the Cowboys have been drafting since 1961. But still, only once in their whole team history…

(Though I’m pretty confident they would have drafted Michael Penix in the first round this year if he was still available at the time.)

Particularly when they could have drafted Jim Kelly or Tony Eason or some guy named Dan Marino.

It’s not like any of them won any Super Bowls

The thing about Blackledge isn’t just that he was the last 1st round QB drafted by the Chefs, it’s that he was (prior to Mahomes) the last QB to be drafted in ANY round and start a game for the Chefs!

The Chiefs played one playoff game in the Blackledge era. And they got crushed by the Jets. He was 12-21 for 80 yards, no TDs, and 2 INTs.

Daniel Jones is still going strong!

Per The Athletic’s Dan Duggan, Jones was seen lined up at safety as a member of the scout team defense during an offensive install period for new starting quarterback Tommy DeVito in the open portion of Thursday’s practice.

In his newfound position on the scout team defense, Jones shared the field with some practice squad offensive linemen, tight ends coach Tim Kelly, assistant quarterback coach Christian Jones and offensive assistant Christian Daboll.

I joked to my wife that soon he’ll be the guy taking everyone’s coffee orders.

That headline got a belly laugh out of me. Such indignity.

I am not convinced of that, a lot of fans like the idea of getting a franchise QB on low pay via the draft but the front office know most of the time they bust.

In 2023 there was a lot of speculation we would get Richardson or Levis. OK Richardson wasn’t available but Mel Kipper had us picking Levis at 5 and we didn’t even take him at 20

In 2022 just about everyone expected us to get a replacement for Wilson and when we didn’t get one from Free Agency it was assumed there must be a rookie we liked even though the Draft was weak at QB that year. A few people thought we would go for Correl (admittedly some of the time in the 2nd Round) given the draft class a think a lot of people were expecting us to get a QB at 9 but worried about us overreaching. Tom Fornelli even had us trading up to 7 to get Malik Willis.

I think the Seahawks got Sam Howell as their back-up and potential QBOTF, while they might have used a later pick if someone they liked fell (like the did with Russell Wilson after sighing Matt Flynn) I don’t think they would have got a QB in the 1st Round

I think it was the chance for Ken Grubb to try to recreate the mojo they had at UW.

I know there were rumors that Seattle was trying to trade up for him, and those rumors were squashed, so I don’t think that was true. But I do believe if he was available at 16, they would have taken him.

We may never know for sure though.

Eh, he’s no Sandy Osiecki.

Yes Browns. A td then field goal.

Hmm. I don’t think the 2-point chart thingie recommends going for it with a 10 point lead, but they got away with it.

And now the Browns lead by 12 with 12 minutes to play. Enough time for the Steelers to come back, but the heavy snow continues to fall.

Oh yeah I’m now getting accumulations on the ground here.

Well, a 12 point lead forces the Steelers to score two touchdowns. Otherwise a TD, 2 point conversion, and FG ties the game.

Typical Browns: other team gets a TD, immediately cough it up and give it back to them.

Nice, Browns ramming it down.

Yes!:football:

Browns still with a chance to epically collapse.
