NFL 2022 Week Six Ways to Sunday

A little late so we don’t get to discuss in real time the offensive showcase between the Commanders and Bears last night. I leave it to the reader to determine the intended meaning of “offensive”.

I’m looking forward to watching the Eagles smack around the Cowboys, and the continued train wreck of the Panthers, but not a lot of other games are grabbing me. And after picking the Lions to win and being wrong almost every time, for this week I’m picking them to not lose, and I like my odds.

Thanks to family obligations, I missed last night’s game. Well, I wouldn’t say I missed it. What an ugly performance by both teams. Although I do like watching the Bears struggle.

Remember when Carson Wentz was an MVP candidate? Remember when Geno Smith was a washout? Remember when Jared Goff was done? Remember when tradig for Matthew Stafford was the reason the Rams won the Super Bowl? Ah, those good old days.

It just, once again, emphasizes that, outside of the few elite, QB play in the NFL is very much dependent on the play of those around them, especially the pass blocking of the O line and the ability of the pass catchers to create separation. Wentz’s talent didn’t suddenly disappear (although he does have some nice weapons to throw to in Washington) . Geno Smith didn’t suddenly turn great. The ability of the O line to protect them and having guys you trust to throw to really matters.

The big news I loved this week is that things are getting heated for Daniel Snyder and the NFL owners. First, ESPN drops a story about what a huge prick Snyder is (which is a surprise to absolutely no one). From paying out settlements to women he sexually harassed to withholding revenue from other owners, to failing to get a new stadium, Snyder is a curse on the NFL, and other owners know it. Then, we get reports (rebutted by Ron Rivera, of course) that Snyder, who was suspended from running the team by the NFL, was the dude who brought Carson Wentz to Washington. Kinda like the watching the Bears suck, I like watching Dan Snyder get lambasted. Good times.

The big game this weekend is the AFC Championship preview Bills v. Chiefs. Should be a fascinating game to watch. I picture Josh Allen, after stretching and do some light throwing before the game starts, going to the 50 yard line and practicing his coin flip calls. I’m excited to watch that game.

I’m with you on this, despite the fact that I predict this will be the second straight week that they fail to score any points.

During the TNF broadcast last night, Al Michaels mentioned that there are now reports that Snyder has been collecting damaging/embarrassing information on his fellow owners, as well as league executives, to use as leverage (e.g., blackmail) to keep them from forcing him out of the league. Such a charming guy.

What? No love for

As a KC fan, I’m scared to death of the Bills. The Chiefs have been eking out wins (see Monday night), while Buffalo has been destroying opponents. The Bills certainly improved themselves in the offseason, while KC probably took a small step backwards. There’s a reason why the Chiefs are home underdogs for the first time since Mahomes became their starting QB.

And while I’m not a Cowboy fan, I think they are gonna give the Eagles a heckuva game and might even win it.

As a Giants fan Cowboys-Eagles is a tough one because I want them both to lose. I’m sure that my hatred for all things Cowboys will have me rooting for the Eagles but I won’t like it.

It seems like Al Michaels is just saying whatever comes to mind. last week he outright said that the game we were watching stunk. This week he says that the other owners probably want Snyder to sell the team. These are the types of things that you rarely hear broadcasters say. Keep it up Al.

I’m looking forward to Eagles - Cowboys, two surprisingly good teams in a conference matchup on SNF.

Ravens - Giants is a cross conference deal, but has some potential. I’m almost sure there’ll be more than one touchdown (looking at you Thursday Night game).

I’m not going to predict that Indy will win - they’ve burned me too many times this year already - but I will predict that they don’t get shut out by Jacksonville (!!!) again.

DGAF Al is the best Al.

I mean statistically there has to be dirt on some of the Packers owners…

Brian

Lord knows this particular Packers owner has embarrassing secrets.

This one is squeeky clean.

???

He’s saying he’s one of the squeaky clean Packers owners.

Ohhh, thanks for the clarification.

Back to football, Go Giants!

Tough one for the Giants so far. As long as we keep it close, we can pull off the upset. But like Greenbay, the Ravens look better than the Giants.

And that TD allowed might be the nail in the coffin.

Yeah it’s not looking good at this point. On the plus side, I’m becoming a big fan of Daniel Bellinger.

Same here. He looks like the real deal.

Just when I’m thinking it’s over, they make it close.

Speaking of Bellinger, nice TD catch.

Oh yeah, Wan’Dale Robinson is also looking promising. And in the first half Thibodaux was a monster; not sure where he disappeared to so far in the second.
