NFL 2024-25: Week 18

According to this recent article, it’s the 11th largest in NFL history.

In Week 3 of 2019, the Patriots were favored by 20.5 over the Jets, but in the same week, the Cowboys were favored by 21.5 over the Dolphins. In that game, the Cowboys became the second team in history to cover a 20+ point spread. The first was the 1976 Steelers, who covered a 27 point spread by beating the Bucs 42-0.

Somehow, I had not realized, until earlier today (watching the pregame show) that John Harbaugh is concluding his seventeenth season as the Ravens’ head coach. Time flies.

A Super Bowl victory, .622 regular-season winning percentage, twelve playoff appearances (counting this season), and only two sub-.500 seasons. I’m now wondering how good a case he has for the Hall of Fame, particularly if he’s not able to win another championship.

With the Browns clearly tanking and Lamar Jackson wanting to make a case for his 3rd MVP, I’ll take that line.

Up until a few minutes ago, the Ravens were looking like they weren’t going to cover the spread. But, now, between a 43-yard touchdown run by Derrick Henry, and an interception by 355-pound nose tackle Michael Pierce (who had dropped back into coverage), it looks like they will.

Did anyone doubt the Ravens would win?
Woo hoo she shouted into the quiet Cleveland air.

No.

The big question was whether or not they would cover the spread.

Packers doing some long-term strategic thinking, are hoping to lower the Bears’ 2025 draft picks by turning the ball over, giving up a special teams toichdown, and dropping passes. Always thinking ahead …

And injuries…

That is very considerate of them.

A wily veteran move by Keenan Allen there. Throwing the pick to help their draft position. Thats why you sign veterans.

Are you ALLOWED to play to lose?

But the Packers will not be denied. A missed blocking assignment leaving an all but untouched rusher to cause a strip sack turnover.

These teams always play each other tough. Keenan Allen’s attempt gets quickly nullified. Packers came to give the game away today!

Yet another veteran stepping up for the Bears. 20 year vet Marcedes Lewis negates a nice run by Swift with a great holding call to putthe Bears behind the sticks. Caleb Williams, either playing as himself or as a wily veteran, throws a 3 yard pass on 3rd and 14.

These Bears are not rolling over on their attempt to roll over.

Packers defense picking up the slack, giving up a TD off of a screen pass. That’s the commitment to screwing the Bears’ draft position the Packers have!

The coaching back and forth is impressive too. The Bears decide to go for two with a horrible play call (but at least they got the ball to tanker Keenan Allen) to try and keep the Packers in it. But thankfully a Packers DB commits yet another penalty on the play, giving the ball back to the Bears with 1/2 distance to thr goal line to help seal the Bears victory.

But the Bears decide to kick the extra point, despite being closer to the endzone. Pure genius!

Bears coaching stepping up huge on their tanking. A screen play on 3rd and 10 gets negative yards, allowing the Bears to punt. Good job!

Packers simply will not be denied in their attempt to force the Bears a win, though. A Malik Willis’ first down scramble negated by a holding call. Great play!

ETA:

This is how a NFC North rivalry game should go. Like a couple of heavyweights trading punches. Usually it’s not to lose, but these are specual times.

Despite the Bears defense giving up a touchdown, Malik Willis has the saavy to simply throw the ball in the dirt on the 2 point conversion to stop a potential tie and force the Bears to keep the lead.

It’s not easy to force a team to win when your team win the yardage numbers by 200 yards, but damn the Pack are committed to letting the Bears win.

ETA:

You cannot make this shit up. DJ Moore fumbles coming out of the 2 minute warning to give the Packersthe ball and give them yet another a chance to win.

Wild and crazy ending. Just when it looks like the Packers are, despite their best efforts, going to win, they commit yet another penalty (horsecollar) to gift the Bears yardage and a first down.

Then the Bears inexplicably let time run off, commit their own penalty (illegal shift).

But the Packers dig deep and let the Bears get the yardage for a game winning FG. In the end, the Packers were able to shoot themselves in the foot enough to cost the Bears a couple of draft positions next year.

Incredible game.

Bucs, 1 point lead 2 minutes to go, on the N.O. 15, Saints have just 2 timeouts…

Was thinking, should he try to score? Or get the first down and immediately plop down, make the Aints burn their 2nd timeout, run it down to 30 seconds or so after 1 more burned timeout, kick a FG, and make them try to go the length of the field to win with c. 25 seconds left and no timeouts?

Well, the Bucs RB took the lateral and just ran it in with no hesitation. Now it’s 1:51 and two timeouts to tie, tho the iffy chances of a successful 2 point conversion has to figure into that.

Deleted too slow

Welp it worked, Bucs in, Falcons game going into OT is now irrelevant.

Looks like the Commandos pulled off another last-second squeaker of a win.
