At the risk of both-sides-ism, the Steelers have racked up plenty of dirty hits of their own in the AFC North, too. Not justifying Burfict, but Pittsburgh kind of had it coming to them.
Dart’s done for the year.
100%. From what I remember from the game, there was a lot of stuff happening between both teams and the announcers were saying it was not unexpected because the teams had beef going back a long time and that’s what they did. That particular hit stood out as being particularly egregious, but it wasn’t like someone threw a haymaker at a tea party. It was an ugly, brutal game all over. And both sides were getting in on it.
Oh absolutely they did their fair share as well, but that’s different from having it come back in that form.
If the team can’t control its own players, it’s on the league to put a stop to it, levy fines, even suspend or ban players. Not to let them settle things on the field in a sport that gives even clean players life long health issues. There’s already enough reasons for parents not to let their kids play football without that kind of thing.
It was over a decade ago. I hope the league is a little more strict and a play like that is less likely to happen today.
The Packers have two defensive tackles out with injuries tonight, and it’s showing. The Falcons have run for 139 yards so far tonight, and it’s not quite halftime yet.
Falcons looking like a well oiled machine. 90 yds, mostly on the ground. 24-7. The Robinsons (plural) gaining chunks.
And that was after a long Packers drive, on which the Pack came away with nothing, as LaFleur elected to go for it on 4th-and-1 at the Atlanta 7. Without a credible running game, Love threw an incompletion, and the Falcons then drove the length of the field.
Atlanta now has 208 yards on the ground.
Up 33-14 and the Falcons go for (and complete) a 2 pt conversion just to fart on the Packers.
Even Amazon is trolling the Packers. After the Packers fail to convert and punt, they play “Stop in the Name of Love” heading into a commercial break.
Currently the rushing yards are 240 for Atlantq and 22 for Green Bay. Bijan has around 190 of them and London has over 150 receiving. They’ve combined for the largest combined yardage for 2 teammates in a game in NFL history tonight.
Now at 244 for Atlanta, versus 17 for Green Bay. The box score had previously listed Packers tight end Tucker Kraft with a 5-yard run; I am guessing that that was reclassified as a pass reception.
I picked Green Bay in survival.
Is there a particular reason why the Packers’ injuries were so heavily concentrated in linemen? Nothing unusual about a team having many injuries, but usually the injuries are spread out across the roster.
I’d say just luck of the draw, but it’s not untrue that linemen (both on offense and defense) are the heaviest guys, and that’s just that much more strain on joints, especially in the lower body; most of the injured Packers linemen are suffering from leg and foot injuries.
I genuinely don’t understand why, but I’m pretty sure that playing at MetLife last week did them no favors. My understanding is that the surface is supposed to be good but it seems to still be constant injuries. I don’t know how much of that is real and how much is confirmation bias.
Despite the Packers getting crushed my man Jordan Love scored me 20 fantasy points, which is more than I was hoping for on a short week like this.
I watched the first quarter and thought Penix looked so bad, I went to bed assuming the Packers would win easily. Go figure.
This is not correct.
Last night Bijan Robinson had 194 yards rushing and 19 yards receiving, for a total of 213 yards. Drake London had 194 yards receiving. Total for the two men was 407 yards.
On November 9, 2015, the Steelers played the Raiders. DeAngelo Williams of the Steelers had 170 yards rushing and 55 yards receiving, for a total of 225 yards. Antonio Brown of the Steelers had 22 yards rushing and 284 yards receiving*, for a total of 306 yards. Total for the two men was 531 yards.
*Brown had 17 receptions for 284 yards, but did not score a touchdown.
I guess it was a lot more nuanced that that. There were actually 3 separate records. It was confusing during the broadcast.
Via Josh Dubow of the Associated Press, London and Robinson are the first teammates each with more than 150 yards from scrimmage in a road game at Lambeau Field. They’re also the fist teammates each with 190 or more yards from scrimmage in a road game in 50 years: It was last accomplished by Rams running back Lawrence McCutcheon and wide receiver Ron Jessie at Miami in 1976.
Robinson and London have now played together in three games when they both had 150 or more yards from scrimmage. They’re the first pair of teammates in NFL history to top 150 yards in the same game three times.
The stat I’m seeing instead is that Bijan and London are the first teammates in nearly 50 years to each record over 190 yards from scrimmage in a road game.
A different one - they’re the first teammates to each record more than 150 yards from scrimmage against the Packers at Lambeau Field.
Lots of qualifiers there, but it amounts to the same thing - the Packers had a heck of a game last night. Obviously not in a good way
Also, the line on Thursday night games is a total crap shoot.
ETA: Ninja’d
He started off shaky, which is understandable considering he hasn’t played in an actual game since November of last year, but he overcame that and took over.
In semi-related news, the Baltimore-Dallas game will be played in Brazil on a soccer pitch that has experienced record rainfall. At least this one does not involve an excessive time zone difference (1 hour ahead of Baltimore/2 hours ahead of Dallas) but does involve longer flights than going to Europe (it’s on the other side of the Equator, don’tcha know)
Expect the NFL to claim the field is in acceptable condition, the players to wear big spikes, and for there to be a lot of slipping and tripping on holes and huge divots flying everywhere.
