NFL and Breast Cancer

I just got an e-mail on this site.
http://www.nfl.com/nflforher/index.html
The NFL is donating $5 per page view today up to $50,000 toward fighting breast cancer.

I imagine 10,000 page views will happen quickly, but give it a click just in case.

Jim

will also donate a $1 to the Komen Breast Cancer Foundation if you click on the pink ribbon on their website.

I would like to point out that breast cancer receives more than its share of research dollars. So I encourage everybody to keep in mind that there are other diseases that aren’t so popular in the media.

That said, I clicked on those links because, while I never give my own money to breast cancer research, if that is where someone wants to put there money and I’m willing to help.

Did I read this wrong, or is Yahoo being rather stingy in their charity?

That is from the page. $5000, they get 5000 hits in an hour, and that is all they are going to give for a full month? Thats a low price to pay for good will advertising, if you ask me.
Its a good cause and 5000 bucks is a lot of money to you or me, but it just seems a trifle cheap when coming from a corporate donor in a case like this. Hopefully its a typo.

Well, ignoring the question of whether a publicly-held company can justify charitable contributions, this is unlikely to be Yahoo’s only charitable contribution.

True.
I guess my question would be, why have the page up for a month, when their contributions will probably stop after a week.
I guess I know the answer, to get breast cancer awareness out there. (Or my more cynical answer, to get more people to come to their site, in the guise of charity, hoping they will stay for commerce.) Probably a combination of the two.

I agree, pricciar. The Yahoo site has doubled their contribution. They are now pledging $10,000. So maybe if the response is big enough the amount could continue to grow.

The NFL site is for $50,000 on 10,000 page views in one day. I thought that was low, but not compared to Yahoo.

Jim

There’s got to be more people than this interested in donating to fight breast cancer.

Jim

JimB I know alot of people who went to the site earlier today. This is a cause near and dear to my heart as I lost my mom to breast cancer. She was a survivor after having it the first time, then it happened again thirty years later and she couldnt fight it off.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart to those who have donated to the cause. Hopefully one day there will be a cure!

I do not know if my click will count, but I am headed there now.
