NFL Coach watch

Which coaches are on a short leash?

IMO:

Schiano
The Jags coach
However, Tomlin and Coughlin’s Lombardis buy them time.

I’ll create multiple categories:

**
COACHES WHO ARE IN ABSOLUTELY NO DANGER**
Bill Belichick
John Fox
Jim Harbaugh
John Harbaugh
Marvin Lewis
Mike McCarthy
Chuck Pagano
Sean Payton
Andy Reid
Mike Tomlin (the Steelers don’t make rash moves; even if it’s time for a major rebuilding effort, I think they’ll give Tomlin at least a few more years to do it)

GUYS WHO ARE PROBABLY SAFE, BUT ALL BETS ARE OFF IF 2013 GOES HORRIBLY
Leslie Frazier

GUYS WHO SHOULD START CLEARING OUT THEIR OFFICES NOW, BARRING A MIRACLE
Ron Rivera

Greg Schiano (who is probably calling USC, Texas and Nebraska, asking if they could use a good college coach)
DECENT COACHES WHO’VE BEEN AROUND A BIT TOO LONG WITH TOO LITTLE TO SHOW FOR THEIR EFFORTS
Jeff Fisher
Jason Garrett
Gary Kubiak
Mike Munchak
Rex Ryan
Jim Schwartz
Mike Smith

I’m not saying any of these guys SHOULD or WILL be fired, merely that it wouldn’t shock me if management decided, in at least a few cases, “You’ve had enough time to take this team to the next level, and you haven’t DONE it!”
FORMERLY GREAT COACHES WHO HAVEN’T DONE MUCH FOR ME LATELY
Tom Coughlin (I don’t think the Maras would want to fire him… but they might plead with him to spend more time with his family)

Mike Shanahan (I’m not saying he’s in danger, but IF the Redskins end up 6-10, he could be on thinner ice than people think)

GUYS WHO WERE RECENTLY HIRED AND WILL BE GIVEN MORE TIME
Bruce Arians
Rob Chudzinski
Doug Marrone
Mike McCoy
Joe Philbin
Marc Trestman
GUYS WHO NEED MORE TIME BUT MAY NOT GET IT
Dennis Allen (poor guy, stuck with the most dysfunctional team in the league)

Gus Bradley (a smart guy, a great defensive coordinator… but he was handed an almost impossible job with a talentless team.)

Chip Kelly (I wouldn’t fire him even if the Eagles have a terrible year… but Philly fans aren’t patient, and he could wear out his welcome fast)

Some of these guys need to look over their shoulders. Lane Kiffin is on the hunt for a new job.

Fisher? Seriously?

I know he was with the Titans forever, but he’s only in his 2nd season with the Rams. And whether or not he could take all the credit for it, he took a 2 win team and went 7-8-1 with only 1 loss in his division last season (particularly impressive given the way the Seahawks and 49ers played last year).

He should be in the “recently hired” group for sure.
