Gah, I forgot about that. Duh.
Let’s go with S - Tyrell Johnson, Arkansas State. They look to fill the hole where Sean Taylor was with the second best Safety available in a draft short on safeties.

The worst part is that I made that Thomas pick. :smack:
Feh. When have the Skins ever let logic or common sense guide their player acquisitions?
Keep telling yourself that. I personally am amazed Millen still has a job.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs are need to get a little younger at most positions, especially at the corner position. They also need a wide receiver, with Galloway and Hillard getting another year older and Clayton and Stovall not showing much of anything. With a great LB in the fold in the first round, I think the Bucs will look on the offensive side of the ball. The signing of Dunn makes drafting a runningback early to be unnecessary, they should be able to get a talented guy later to help out Graham and Dunn. QB is certainly always an issue for the Bucs, but I can’t see another second, let alone third, round talent left in the pool. I know Gruden is not a fan of drafting WR, but I think, as Omni pointed out, a smart, hard worker with great size will change his mind.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Jordy Nelson, WR, Kansas State
Psst… we signed Antonio Bryant in FA, but we still need help at WR. We’ve still got Cadillac., though; I don’t think we’ll take a RB before the last rounds.
Gruden hates young backs because he doesn’t think they can pass protect.
That’s why the franchise sank so much money into ready-for-pasture Charlie Garner, never-was Michael Pittman and not-gonna-do-much Warrick Dunn.
Really, I didn’t know you were a Bucs fan, I shoulda let you make the call.
The Antonio Bryant who didn’t catch an NFL pass last season? The Antonio Bryant who has pissed off two NFL head coaches so much that they traded or released him? The Antonio Bryant who failed a drug test over last summer so that nobody would sign him? THAT Antonio Bryant?
And youth. Galloway is what? 37? Hillard is 32?
What is Cadillac’s status. I thought he was close to done.
You suck, man. I was all over Johnson for the Giants second rounder. Many mocks have the G-Men taking him in the first, but I figured he’d fall to the end of the second in this mock. Oh well.
You and me both.
I came very near to taking him with the Eagles’ pick, but decided against it at the last second. He reminded me a lot of Brian Dawkins based on the scouting reports of him that I read. In the end, I just decided that LB was more of a need.
Wouldn’t mind seeing him in green in the real draft though!
No prob. I would have gone with Doucet, I think.
Yes, that Antonio Bryant. The one who posted a thousand-yard season in the horrible '05 Cleveland offense, and 733 yards in San Fran with Alex Smith as his quarterback.
I’m not saying he’s “the answer” but if he stays off the weed for a couple years I think he’s a terrific #2.
Galloway will be 36 by season’s end, but he’s shown no sign of slowing down over the last three years.
Hilliard is nearly as old but he’s never been more than a #3 receiver anyway. He started last season but that was more or less just because there was nobody else available.
We’ve also got Maurice Stovall, a third-round pick from Notre Dame, who looks ready to blossom into an excellent slot receiver in his third season.
Hmmm.
Okay, we need help. I don’t think it’s coming from the draft, though.
Cadillac is… questionable. He’ll be recovered by the preseason at the latest, but he might never have the same burst again. Time will tell. Either way I don’t think he’s more than a change-of-pace back for the forseeable future. Graham will get the bulk of the carries, with Dunn coming in on third down.
2.22 (53) Pittsburgh Steelers:
The Steelers already addressed their most pressing need, OL, with their first pick, allowing them to focus on their secondary needs. Among those is an aging defensive line and a thin WR corps, both of which could be upgraded here.
While Cliff Avril is a well-rated prospect and represents the best value over others at the same position, he doesn’t fit with the newer defensive schemes of the Steelers. This leaves them to focus on the offensive side of the ball.
Early Doucet is the clear choice here. Doucet likely won’t ever become a #1 WR in the NFL, but fits an ideal position here because he can contribute as a #3 (providing a better return on the playing time investment), avoid the pressures of trying to be a #1, and learn behind two play-makers. Eventually, he figures to step up and be a solid #2.
With the 22nd pick of the second round, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Early Doucet, WR, LSU.

Tennessee Titans
In the first round, the Titans got a helluva break with Derrick Harvey falling to them at 24. It’s only fair, then, that, with the last two picks, the last two second tier WR in the draft are gone. Either Jordy or Early would have made a great pick for the Titans here, but I see no other WR (maybe Dexter Jackson, but even that is a reach) worth a second round pick. So the Titans put aside that need, and look elsewhere for a player. They could definately go for Trevor Laws to put with/replace Haynesworth. And, if they’re not sold on Chris Henry, Jamaal Charles or Chris Johnson would be nice picks, but, from what I hear, they like Henry. I think they’d like to get a little more youth on their O line, with Mawae at 36 and Scott retiring. I generally don’t think C or G are chosen early in the draft, but we’re at the end of the second round and the best C, Mike Pollack, and the second best G, Chilo are available.
Tennessee Titans select Chilo Rachal, G, USC.
FWIW, the Buccaneers have invested 1st- and 2nd-round picks in guards over the last two seasons (Davin Joseph and Arron Sears).
Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks are in a pretty good position all things considered. They’ve got pretty good starters and are looking to get younger and upgrade at a couple positions. They did that in round one, reach… I mean grabbing their future QB Brian Brohm to learn a few years under Hasselback. The running game, with the addition of Julius Jones and TJ Duckett, is adequate, but nothing to write home about. If they love Charles or Johnson, or even Smith, they might grab him here. They could also bolster their O Line, especially by getting young guys at LG and LT to replace Wahle and Jones. They also would like a playmaker at the WR position. But their biggest need, and a great choice here, is at TE. Getting a guy who can stretch the field and work the middle could help their inconsistent WR corp. So I think they look to Fred Davis, John Carlson, or Martellus Bennet. Bennet is the best athlete, with great skills. Unfortunately, he is also an arrogant, immature asshole. Carlson is less athletic, but very skilled TE with a good football sense. If a team thinks his dropoff in production was the result of poor play by the QB (which it was, in part) he’d be in the mix. And Davis is the best all around TE, although he doesn’t play angry enough. He did win the MAckey award though. There is also a fair amount of depth, so Seattle may skip the TE position this round and try to grab help on their O Line.
But I think they go TE. But I don’t know their draft strategy, if they’d rather take a risk on a head case who could be great, or if they want a solid player. In the end, I think they go with
Seattle Seahawks select Fred Davis, TE, USC.
Note: Now, I didn’t want to make this pick for the Seahawks, because I wanted to take Davis for the Packers with the next pick.
Green Bay Packers
They’re pissed because Davis got selected right before them. They’re also in the market for a TE, but are a young team that relies a fair amount on team chemistry, which would seem to put Bennet on the outs. But they could also be happy to wait another few picks or even a few rounds, and get Carlson, or maybe Rucker or Cottam or Stevens. They still haven’t dealt with the CB position, and Patrick Lee and Tyron Branch are still available. And Branch is a Packer kind of player, small school athlete who is smart, durable, and a good football player. Although he’s got a poor turnover ratio (only 3 interceptions) he’s the kind of player the Packers love to pick. And Lee is a physical corner, who can develop behind Harris and Woodson, and do well in man to man. Charles and Johnson are still on the board, and either one of those would be a nice complement to Ryan Grant. And, of course, they could go with Collins the OT from Kansas. Cliff Avril and DaJuan Morgan are also in the mix as they are the BPA. I don’t know what to do with this pick. In the end, I think they need to get a little help for their “rookie” QB, and that means either a great pass catcher out of the backfield (Chris Johnson), or this guy:
Green Bay Packers select John Carlson, TE, Notre Dame.
I also really like Tashard Choice for their zone blocking scheme and Tyron Branch, so I figured I let those positions go for now and hope for the best.
Does no one want to pick for the Dolphins?
Don’t make me do finish this thing on my own!
Do it! Do it!
Ronnie Brown’s rehabbing an ACL. Ricky Williams is just plain rehabbing.
The pick is Kevin Fucking Smith, RB, University of Central Florida.
