Sdmb nfl mock draft

Welcome to the First Annual Trial Run 2010 SDMB Mock NFL Draft.

I’ve tried to come up with a way of running this Mock Draft, but if anyone has any suggestions to make it better, feel free to pipe up. Since it is nigh but impossible to do a Mock Draft completely live and we want to keep it moving, we’re going to conduct it as a mix of live and proxy draft with deadlines. Selections of players can be made live in the thread if your team is up. Or, since real life too often intrudes, Owners of the teams with the next 5 selections must send proxies to me (via PM) by certain deadlines. Live selections and/or proxies will be due 4 times a day at 9:00 a.m.; 1:00 p.m.; 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. If we stay on schedule, that’ll be (at worst) 20 picks a day, so we may be able to get to the 4th round before the real draft starts. If we move faster, that’s fine, but I’d rather not move any slower than that.

To give an example of how it will work, picks 1 through 6 will have until the 5:00 this afternoon deadline. They may pick live in the thread, or they may PM me their list of players in order, of who they would like to draft. I’ll then post the proxies and we’ll move on to the next group of 5, whose Owners will have to select (in correct order) or send proxies by 9:00 p.m. I will update the thread with who needs to pick/proxy often (hopefully).

Trading is allowed, but I will keep a veto power for completely stupid trades (like say giving up 2 first rounders, a third rounder, and a starting QB for “gunslinger” Jay Cutler  ). If an Owner wishes to trade up (or trade down), you can post your interest in the thread, or PM the owner of your target team and see what can be worked out. Players may also be traded for draft picks (again unless it’s horribly unfair) if the Owners agree. See what you can work out. And most of all, have fun.

We have more NFL teams than Owners who have claimed them. With that in mind, I want to keep ownership of any UNCLAIMED team open so any posters who have not signed up before can jump right in. Just post in the thread that you want to take over a team, and it’s yours. If you already have a team and want to claim another, feel free. I will be making the picks for any unclaimed teams at each deadline. I’ll likely be using Gil Brandt’s (and others) top 100 Big Board and checking it against team needs, in deciding who gets selected for unclaimed teams.

Again, everyone should feel free to jump in and grab a team if they like. The more the merrier.

Here is the draft order from nfl.com. It includes the latest trades (for example the Dolphins’ gave their 2nd round for Brandon Marshall) as of this morning.

Any questions, feel free to post them here. If I’ve forgotten anything, let me know.

With all this in mind, the drafting may start.

St. Louis Rams (Unclaimed) is on the clock.

Since they are unclaimed, any poster may claim them and make their selection. If no one claims them, I’ll be making their selection around 1:00 p.m. Owners of the next 5 teams after them (that’s LOUNE, garygnu, Reticulating Spines, Seattle (unclaimed), and Omni) have until 5:00 tonight to make trades/make selection if your turn is up/or get your proxy to me). I’ll post their selections at 5:00 at the latest.

And the Rams are more than willing to move down, if anyone wants to move up. Just saying.

I’ll be the Rams for now. I’m on the clock and will entertain trade offers via PM for the next 23 minutes.

I’ll represent the Raiders. I’ll have to simulate being drunk, as I can’t actually drink when they’re up to bat.

The Raiders will not trade up. We will happily take a top 150 talent with our #8 pick. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think Trindon Holliday will be available at 8.

Sorry for the delay. Was doing some work. Here’s the pick:

St. Louis Rams

  1. Sam Bradford - QB, Oklahoma

The Lions are on the clock. So LOUNE can choose whenever he wishes. Teams up to pick #6 should PM me before 5:00 p.m. with their proxies if they can’t be here now.

In addition, the Cowboys have been claimed by Grey Ghost and the Steelers by Stink Fish Pot (but he’s willing to have any help other Steeler fans wish to give him.)

Waiting on Retriculating Splines. I’ll give him another hour, then make the selections. I still need to hear from the Bucs at 3 also.

What’s the time limit?

Since we’re just starting, I figued I’d give him an extra hour, to 6:00 Central. If I don’t hear from him, I’ll make and post the picks without him then.

Lions select Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska.

garygnu is up.

With the third pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma.

Washington Redskins select Russel Okung, OT, Oklahoma State

Kansas City Chiefs select Eric Berry, S, Tennessee.

Seattle Seahawks select Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma.

Browns (Senor Beef) are on the clock.

Bills and Broncos are still unclaimed. If anyone wants to pick for them, let me know. I’ll have the next 5 picks posted by (hopefully) 9:00 pm.

There was a trade on the table from the Giants. I was trying to get a trade from the Redskins before making my decision with the Giants.

Overslept, pick coming up soon, sorry.

  1. Browns take Joe Haden, CB, Florida

That was actually a tough pick. If Berry is there, it’s easy. But no one is all that appealing a prospect at #7. The consensus seems to be Jimmy Clausen, but it’s not Holmgren’s style to pick a QB with a high first round pick. The pick I really wanted to make here (besides Berry) is Rolando McClain, because he seems like a guy Mangini would like to define his defense, but I sort of chickened out and went with Joe Haden who many many more people predict will be the pick than McClain.

Neither ILB or CB is a critical need - Sheldown Brown is getting old but he’ll make a solid corner duo with Eric Wright for 2 or 3 years, and Jackson/Fujita will be a decent inside pair. Safety is a pretty critical need, and I was almost tempted to pick Thomas from Texas here, but it would’ve just been too much of a reach. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Browns trade down to spots 11-16 and pick up Thomas though. Dez Bryant is too much of a headcase for Holmgren or Mangini even if WR is a big need.

There’s not a great choice at #7 for the Browns and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them trade in either direction, either to land Berry or pick up a second rounder and snagging whoever’s left out of Haden/McClain/Thomas.

Uh, sorry to screw this up, but…what happened to Saturday at noon? I didn’t even browse the threads today until just now.

Sorry about that, but I wanted to get started early. From most everything I’ve read, Okung will be the guy for the Redskins in the first round. If that’s a problem, let me know.

And feel free to grab another team. The Broncos have a pick coming up.
