Jags are on the clock. They will entertain any offers to trade down if a team wants to jump up and grab Jimmy Clausen. I’ll wait until 9:00 a.m. Central and then make a selection for them. If anyone wants to pick up the Broncos in that time, they may.
There was a perfect Raiders pick you missed - Jason Pierre-Paul, DE. He’s done nothing but he’s like 275 and can do 1259125 backflips in a row, so he seemed like a perfect Raider pick. Especially since they already have 2 very good RBs. I was gonna make it myself, but Garygnu called dibs.
That puts garygnu and the 49ers on the clock. The Seahawks (Omni), Giants (It’s Not Rocket Surgery!), Titans (unclaimed), the 49ers again (garygnu) should make their selections or send in proxies by 1:00 p.m.
It was tough picking for the Jags. In an ideal world, they will find a team willing to trade up and grab themselves extra draft picks (especially because they don’t have a second rounder this year). But they didn’t, so they had to make a pick.
While their pass rush has just been atrocious, they did sign Aaron Kampman, resigned Reggie Hayward, and still have Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves “developing”. I don’t think they’re likely to grab yet another DE so early now. They could reach for Earl Thomas to help their secondary and replace the awful Reggie Nelson. But I went with a guy who I think is the Best Player Available, and who will also put a face on the franchise that will sell those season tickets they desperately need. While a lot of “experts” expect them to target Tebow in the second, I think they’d be doing a disservice to their team by not getting Clausen. He’ll have a year to learn under a mediocre QB (Garrard) and get the reins. With their great selections at OT last year, they’re going to be pretty well stocked for the future.
I don’t think the Browns could go wrong with any of those three. I think Holmgren is throwing up smoke and wants Clausen, but who knows what is really going through his head. But ideally, they get Berry to fall, but I do think Haden will be a huge asset to the team.
There’s a rumor floating around that the Eagles are looking to move up to grab Haden. Not only do they have the picks to make the deal (first, two seconds, two thirds, two fourths), but Cleveland is a natural trading partner for the Eagles, as has already been shown. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see the Eagles move up for somebody.
With the thirteenth pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select Mike Iupati, G, Idaho.
All my top choices for 13 were already taken. Anthony Davis is also a likely pick here. I chose Iupati because he’s big, strong, and mean. You want your offensive linemen to play mean, and he does. Guard isn’t normally a high pick position, but screw that. This guy’s a future pro-bowler, and it’s not like the 49ers don’t need help all over their line. If Iupati doesn’t work out at right tackle, he’d still be a big improvement at left guard.
This draft certainly did not fall well for the 49ers. None of the players at their positions of need fell to them. Haden, Berry, Bulaga, and the rest all gone. There wasn’t anyone left who would be a OMG I have to trade up to get him!!! (maybe the Eagles would want Morgan?). Nothing fell their way. Earl Thomas would be the only other one I’d consider, and even Iupati is a bit of a reach. I’m not as high on Iupati as most (I question his smarts, the level of competition he played and his versatility), but the 49ers were in a tough spot.
Seahawks (Omni) are on the clock. Don’t forget those proxies either.
Omni is unavailable, but had sent proxies for the Miami pick. Since the Seahawks have similar needs, I’ll use his Miami’s picks as proxies for Seattle.
14 Seattle Seahawks select Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida
15 New York Giants (by proxy) select Taylor Mays, S, USC
16 Tennessee Titans select Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech.
The Niners are back on the clock. Then the Steelers. I’ll be back to update soon.
With the seventeenth pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State.
Staying in the Gem State, the 49ers need help in the defensive backfield, but more specifically at the corner spot. Earl Thomas was a tempting possibility. If Baalke* has the choices at 17 that this mock produced, I would be happy with either one, but I do not envy his job.
*: Trent Baalke, 49ers GM in all but name following the departure of Scot McCloughan.

The Steelers (Stink Fish Pot) are on the clock. Falcons (unclaimed) on deck. Texans (Gray Ghost) have sent their proxy. Then it’s the Bengals (It’s not Rocket Surgery) proxy has been sent too. I hope to have the picks made before 5:00. Thanks.
The entire CBS Sports database of prospects lists nobody with that name this year. However, they could draft cornerback Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (4.32 40yd time) to line up opposite Nnamdi Asomugha.
