NFL Draft 2022

Normally there are 3 or 4 guys I’m frothing at the mouth for the Bears to get with their second round pick. This year we have 2 and I’m not that fired up about anyone at the top of the board. The move I’d be most excited about would be trading back with a team wanting to reach for a QB, but after day one I’m not sure such a team exists.

The Bears have 2.7 and 2.16 so there’s a couple opportunities to start filling holes on the OL, WR and DB squads. Kyler Gordon is an interesting CB option and Roger McCreary has been comped to Jaylon Johnson, so that’s enticing. Pitre and Brisker seem like lively bodies at Safety. Daniel Faalele is a mountain of a man on the OL but probably not a guy ready to start. His teammate Boye Mafe looks to be the best pass rusher left on the board. Outside chance he could be sitting there at as the BPA when the Bears come up.

And Janoris Jenkins, and Bobby Wagner, and Coby Fleener… I was probably the only 49er fan who knew who Jenkins was - I did a multi-user reddit mock draft and traded up for him (in the 4th Round).
Let’s just say Shahud Khan has the most appropriate GM.:clown_face:

For 2022, I have a list of a few CBs, WRs, Edge rushers, and Centers I’d like the 49ers to pick today, but it’s not a well-researched one. I just don’t have the time to be a draftnik anymore.

As a 49er he only played 37 snaps as a receiver, and was only targeted once (which he dropped). He didn’t actually make a reception until he was an Eagle. I’m not surprised that 49er fans can’t remember him.

I meant before the draft. Today he’s a violently repressed memory, much like Kentwan Balmer or Jim Druckenmiller.

Oh, I gotcha. Yes, he seemed to definitely be, “AJ who?” when drafted.

One in a long line of hyped Illini WRs who flamed out completely in the NFL.

Good weekend for the Jets continues.

Well, the Packers go full appeasement mode for Rodgers and overpay to trade up in the second round to grab a WR. The Packers history of drafting WRs in the second round is pretty stellar: Davante Adams. Randall Cobb. Jordy Nelson. (We ignore Terrance Murphy), so they get the benefit of the doubt. And Watson has the size/speed numbers you love. And he’s apparently a hard worker, which is great.

But, to me, he gives off Marquez Valdes-Scantling vibes. Tall, speedy, not strong and not contested catch guy, who can be a deep threat, but not much more. MVS was fine, because he was a 5th round pick. Using two 2nds to take him would have been a huge waste. I’d much more prefer staying put and drafting two WRs in the second round and hope you get one starter. Give me Skyy Moore (although I’d be surprised if he made it to 53)/George Pickens/Jalen Tolbert/John Metchie and 2 shots at it rather than Christian Watson.

Well boo, I tuned in to check out the Giants pick and apparently they traded it. Twice! Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind the trade down, but now I’m watching other teams drafting. What the hell?

I dug up the details:

Giants trade back two spots – from 2.4 to 2.6 – to the Jets for a 5th rounder (146)

Giants then trade back that 2.6 to the Falcons for 2.11 and a 3rd rounder (114)

Net effect is they dropped back seven spots to pick up a 3rd and a 5th. Seems reasonable.

Gordon was the pick. Pretty pleased but I have to say it stung a little seeing Mafe go off the board right after.

Thanks for looking up the details!

I’ve also been watching way more of the draft than I expected to, but I’m not mad at those moves.

Giants take the 8th receiver off the board but I can’t find him on any list of pre-draft wide receiver rankings. Granted, The articles generally limit themselves to the top 10 prospects as they see it, but I found two different ones and he wasn’t on either of them.

Best I can glean is that he plays similar to Toney – who is apparently trade bait at this point? – but tiny. Like, 5’8" tiny. Yeesh. (Toney is listed as 6’0".)

Skimming for recent news on Toney, looks like they he didn’t show up to voluntary workouts / minicamp last week around the same time the Giants were floating his name as trade bait.

If Robinson is really a Toney redraft in preparation for trade, man, that’s an unfortunate capital expenditure (high second round pick) in the middle of a major rebuild. Especially when you spend that capital on, to quote someone on different boards, a “smurf.”

I’ll be damned. They never pick the guys I’m eying here. Crazytown. Gordon and Brisker start to rebuild this dismal secondary we have.

Patriots with another head-scratcher pick, taking a guy who came in at 192 on PFF’s big board. Dude is blazing fast (4.28), but that’s about it.

Maybe Bill Belichick is being possessed by the ghost of Al Davis?

That is pretty good wheeling and dealing.

Honestly, that makes me think he’ll be a HoFer.

How much longer do we go before we see another QB?

Many draftnik’s #1 ILB prospect from the CFB Champ still on the board.

Who’s gonna draft a 25 year old Austrian?

Kerby Joseph is maybe my favorite guy on the board but the Bears already took 2 DBs. Do they dare to take another and show Eddie Jackson the door?

This jingoistic shit is tacky as hell. Embarrassed for those kids on stage.

Eeeew, do not like that pick at all. The new Bears GM drafting for need, not talent, never a good sign. This guy looks like little more than a W4 and a PR/KR. Too soon to draft a guy like that, and one who’s 25 years old to boot. Drafting an older guy at OT is one thing, but at WR it’s a different ballgame.

14 wide receivers so far, in 74 picks. :open_mouth:
