MLB.tv is a fantastic package - for ~$100, you can watch every single MLB game online and on mobile devices. I didn’t get it this year, but am thinking about it for next year.
Is there a similar program for the NFL? I looked on NFL.com, but don’t see anything. NFL . tv isn’t anything.
The only option that I know of is DirectTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket, which this year will begin streaming in 720p. However, it is only available for online streaming if you a) can prove that you can’t subscribe to regular DirectTV, and b) fork over $350.
That exclusive contract the NFL has with Directv is a bitch. MLB has their package available online as well as on both cable and satellite. The online version of MLB is excellent since I get to pick between either team’s broadcast and the games are available on demand so I can watch no hitters or other memorable games that I might have missed.
Since the NFL only has a contract with Directv, you can’t get all the games on cable or online. Hopefully, this will change once the Directv deal runs out.
There are lots of streams of variable quality all over the internet on sites like justintv.com. Its great if your team sucks and your home games are constantly blacked out.
True, there are a ton of video streams. I’ve found that most of them are hit-or-miss at best, and what may work one week could be completely gone the next. It’s somewhat easier to find audio-only streams of radio coverage, but again it depends on the team in question, the radio stations that broadcast the radio call, and whether or not either the radio station or the NFL realizes that they are broadcasting live over the internet.
Some providers (Dish Network off the top of my head, for example, but not Time Warner, which is what I’m now stuck with) now have what is called NFL Red Zone. That normally gives live coverage whenever a team is in the red zone. Not the greatest, obviously, but it is something.
Not live in the US. The US market cannot get live NFL games except through TV. However, you can get live radio broadcasts. The reason for this is that the NFL wants to make sure the networks get their money’s worth. This is the same reason there’s blackouts: live attendance first, then tv audience.
In the US, the only options you have are through nfl.com. They offer three packages: full replays of every game after they are completed and live radio broadcasts are the only ones available to US citizens. Live streaming video is only available outside the US.
[edit] Checked again just now. The above is still true.
