NFL Predictions - Week 10

12 Home favorites this week - those who like the road dogs are salivating…

Colts 30 at Saints 28 (Saints by 5 1/2)
The Ewing Effect at it’s best. No James, Manning hurting…
START: Manning, Harrison, Pathon, Horn

Jets 17 at Dolphins 24 ('Phins by 6)
Time for the Dolphins losing streak against the Jets to end. The 'Phins sport a two prong offense for the first time in a while. Chambers and Minor will keep this team in the running for quite some time.
START: Minor (again), Fiedler, CuMartin.

Eagles 30 at Cowboys 13 (Eagles by 7)
Iggles defense has been great for years. McNabb and the Iggles offense is moving towards greatness.
START: McNabb, Thrash, CLewis

49ers 30 at Panthers 10 (off)
This is off because of Weinke? Are you kidding me - like it matters?
START: Hearst, Garcia, Owens, Cortez

Seahawks 17 at Bills 20 (Seattle by 3 1/2)
VanPelt will help Moulds’ numbers. Trust me.
START: SAlexander, VanPelt, Moulds.

Titans 17 at Bengals 16 (Bengals by 1)
The Titans were screwed by a loophole. Look for George to have a nice game, not great, but good.
START: George.

Falcons 13 at Packers 31 (Packers by 10)
The Falcons are horrible against the pass. That’s really bad when you’re facing the Pack at home.
START: Favre, Freeman, Schroeder, Franks.

Bears 23 at Bucs 22 (Tampa by 5)
The Bears will pull this one out in regulation.
START: Gramatica, A-Train Jr.

Browns 10 at Ravens 20 (Ravens by 8)
People are counting the Ravens out. Fact is, they have a better record at his point than they did last year.
START: Brookins on a hunch.

Chargers 21 at Raiders 28 (Raiders by 9)
Always a good game. Woodson is hurt, and apparently the Raiders forgot how to tackle.
START: Tomlinson, TBrown, Gannon.

Jags 16 at Steelers 20 (Steelers by 5 1/2)
The Jags managed to repair the flat tire, they’ll play it close enough to cover.
START: Hollis, Bettis.

Redskins 17 at Broncos 30 (Broncos by 8 1/2)
Shanahan must have read up on the Kennison effect - when you have Kennison, you suck (Rams, Saints, Bears). After you release him? You kick ass. Kennison tried to retire, then tried to come back. Shanny cut him. Broncos will win out!
START - MAnderson, RSmith, Greise, SDavis.

Lions 24 at Cards 23 (Cards by 1 1/2)
I actually think the Lions win by more, but hey, I’m calling an upset, why stretch it?
START: Boston, Emmanuel (a hunch).

Rams 32 at Patriots 24 (Rams by 9)
The weather, the outdoors, and Ty Law will keep it close enough for the Pats to cover.
START: Faulk, TBrown, Brady.

Vikings 28 at Giants 30 (Vikings by 2)
The Vikes started as 1 pont underdogs. Sorry, but 41-0 still rings in my head.
START: TIKI BARBER, KCollins, Moss, Culpepper.

My 5 ATS:
Giants
Packers
Eagles
Bears
Ravens

SURE: Packers

Gazoo, I am afraid I have to disagree with you again, but this time it’s on history, not the future. You imply the Titans was robbed, in my view the refs aided and abetted. That roughing call late in the game was bush, and the catch Dyson(?) made on the sidelines should have been overturned. Then they made a stupid call by sneaking McNair twice in a row. A rollout made more sense at that point, the Ravens were loaded for bear with a chance at redemption.

Anyway, again I think it looks to be an interesting week. I am a little amazed that the Bucs are so strongly favored at home, so I might have to pick them to win but the Bears to cover. I’ll let you know.

OK ** Shibb**, I’ll ask you this since no one else can seem to agree (and Lord knows, I’ve been wrong all year).

Who would you start among Rod Gardner, Willie Jackson, Laverneous Coles and Eric Moulds (can play 2)?

Coles is the Jets primary receiver, but the Phins have a pretty good pass D. Gardner is about the only Skins weapon, but he’s a rook going against Denver. Jackson is the Saints 2nd WR, but the Colts are pretty weak in pass D and Moulds is probably the best of them all, but is having a bad year and the Bills have a 2nd string QB going.

I’m leaning towards Coles and Gardner. What’cha think??

(or anyone else’s opinion?)

oops. I see you say Moulds is a go. Who else, ya think?

I’d go with Willie Jackson and Moulds.

Tough question, jk1245, I’ve had two of those guys on my two fantasy teams at different points in the year (Coles and Jackson), and they regularly drive me crazy. Jackson had a great game last week, best of the season if not his career. But the problem with Saints receivers is that you never know which one Brooks is going to go to. He has really spread things out this season (the Eagles are like this to), so you might want to give Jackson a miss after a big week.

Coles did nothing much the past two weeks. But he did have 77 yards and 2 touchdowns the last time they faced the Dolphins. The Jets also have had the Dolphins number for quite a while, although that’s bound to change eventually.

Gardner has essentially had one good game against what may be the worst team in the league. His QB is one of those guys that has a history of inconsistency as well, which doesn’t help.

Moulds has had one good game and one decent game this season, the rest have been horrible. But he’s got a different QB this week and I just went and checked… guess who was QB in the one game where Moulds really shined.

After all that, I think I might go the way Gazoo recommended. If not I would use Jackson instead of Moulds and hope that they replicate last weeks numbers, plus add a TD or two.

Wait a minute, did you say the Lions would win this week?

::falls on the floor laughing::

I’m sure you have some statistical backup to these, and some logic to it…but c’mon, The Lions win? haaaahahhaha!

Ok, sorry, I’m done now

Only two disagreements this week.

Saints (loss to Niners gives them something to prove) over the Colts.

Seattle (huge win over the Raiders has to carry over) over Buffalo.

ATS

Packers
Raiders
Broncos
Eagles
Vikings

Sure: Detroit (yeah the underdog again, but looking at their schedule this is the most likely winnable game till week 17)

My picks ATS:

Eagles
Seahawks
Packers
Browns
Bears.

Sure: Denver

This is an interesting week. While doing my picks, I saw about ten no-brainers, and two or three “hmmm” picks.

Again, I’m picking the Lions to win. I’m going to keep doing so each week until they actually do.

Anyway, my five ATS picks:

  1. Lions
  2. Dolphins (I read somewhere that all the great losing streaks, Eagles/Giants, Raiders/Broncos, etc., have all ended, save this one; it’s Miami’s turn)
  3. Ravens
  4. Colts
  5. Bears

Sure: Eagles (since if they lose to Dallas I’ll be so ashamed I won’t want them to win again this year; ditto for the Skins next weekend)

Seriously, Gazoo: Which loophole screwed the Titans? The one that doesn’t allow Bruce Matthews to set the ball instead of the ref? The one that doesn’t allow them to have only five guys on the LOS? They should be happy it wasn’t spotted from the 5 or 10, rather than the one inch line.

Ahh, the argument of the Tuesday morning coach. Only one flag was dropped. The one that was in the favor of the Ravens. (And yes, I read “Pete’s Picks” on USA Today earlier as well.) Granted the retry was a bad call, they still got screwed.

I still don’t understand. The Titans got screwed because of a penalty against Baltimore, when two flags should’ve been thrown against them?

I don’t know, I guess my point is that the other flags weren’t thrown, the official signaled TD and then the penalty that was called on the Ravens is one of very few that can’t be declined.

Like I said, the play call on the subsequent try was horrid, but I saw a Titans team that left everything out on the field. Guys were all beat up, etc. Perhaps it’s just an emotional thing, but to see a team work that hard, get a TD called and then have it taken away on a defensive penalty, just seems wrong.

Sooo…if a team wins on a blatantly unfair non-call (and possibly two), that’s perfectly fine. But if they’re “robbed” of their undeserved win, it’s an atrocity.

Double . And I thought “unwritten codes” were confusing before.

You know what, forget it, this is too weird, I’m not even going to bother with questions this week. I’m just going to watch the games and hope nothing too “controversial” (read: horribly blown calls) happens.

Ok, how pathetic is this… here I am on vacation in Florida and I am rushing to get all of this week’s picks done. I may even go over and see if I can pick up some tickets for the Bears v Bucs game this afternoon, the weather is perfect, but I don’t know if I can afford to shell out $100-200 for a seat.

My big fantasy dilemna of the week is whether to start Brooks or Culpepper. Even though in my picks I have the Vikings winning a shootout (31-27), in Fantasy I am not that confident, so I am going with Brooks. He has killed me before, so those of you who like to bet against me should rush out and put a little side on the Vikes.

Comparing my stuff against Gazoo this week, we are different on Cincinnati, Tampa Bay, New Orleans and Minnesota. Somehow I usually manage to pick one better straight up than him, but never win anything with it.

In my sure thing this week, I will also go with Green Bay at home against Michael Vick or the Chandelier.

In the ATS pool, let’s see if I can break the two correct barrier:

Jets, Bills, Pack, Bears, Pitt

Just an FYI: Correl Buckhalter and two practice squad rookies were suspended by the Eagles for today’s game, so if you got him, bench him.

If you’ve got Duce, then be very happy he won’t be splitting time in the backfield.

(Somewhere there’s a Cowboys fan thinking “Ooh, we got ourselves a chance now!” Not likely.)

Okay, if anyone knows a Bears player, have them pick your lottery numbers this week…

Good Lord.

3-2 ATS, and WRONG on my sure pick.

Damn.

I’d also like to announce to the world that I am the jackass who, at the last minute, shoved Jerry Rice’s ass on the bench on my fantasy team becasue I was sure that Michael Pittman was going to be big against Detroit. :frowning:

I’d also like to say it felt weird cheering for the Browns. They beat the Ravens, so I am happy as the Steelers are now 1 and 1/2 games up in the AFC Central. 7-2 sounds pretty good to me.

But cheering for the Browns? ewwww, I feel so… so… so dirty. I need a shower.

Well, Brooks turned out fine, but I don’t know if anything could have helped me win this week, I am down by 8 and out of guns for tonight. Maybe I’ll second guess myself if Daunte goes off the charts tonight, but I doubt it.

Also out in the Sure Pick Pool, I’d like to think that Gazoo led me down the primrose path, but I’d a gone there my own darned self.

ATS: I think I was 4-1, with my lone setback being the Packers tanking at home for the first time in eternity. I haven’t double checked the scores but that seems right. I guess that’s something to build on.

Was anybody else watching Grammatica’s kick go off the upright and wincing with me, or is everybody a Bears fan now?

The next time I pick Detroit to win, someone please confiscate my keyboard. How in the hell do you throw for 400+ and still loose
