NFL Predictions - Week 13

I take it you’re a Vikes fan?

Um, ok, just a little nitpick here, and don’t take it personally, but I was getting mad watching Dennis Miller and the other twits saying this during Monday Night Football last week too:

It’s St. Louis. Pronounce the ‘s’ No one is St Louis calls the place St Louie. In fact, it’s not allowed here; it’s against the law unless you’re singing that stupid song from that stupid musical of the same name. And quite frankly, many of us are upset about that too.

Not as upset as we are over the loss to the Saints today, but still rather perturbed.

Hey crunchy, just wait untill your beloved Rams come on down to N’awlins Dec. 24. Its going to be a sad Christmas for you. The Rams better hope for a wild card. We have a new attitude down here and we are on our way to the promised land! GO SAINTS!

Now, now, chilluns. Stop squabbling as your teams self destruct. We get past Oakland, ain’t one of y’all gonna beat the mighty Baltimore Ravens.
::blows smoke rings::

rolls eyes Oh please, Dave. Y’all ain’t getting to the AFC Championship.

Falcon, if you really, truely believe that the Tennessee Tite-mans can beat us the way we’re playing now…well, I got some oceanfront property in North Dakota you might be interested in. Let me know, will ya? It’s got a great view of Antartica.

No, I think Oakland will kick y’alls asses, then go on to play Tennessee for the Championship.

That is assuning Tennessee takes the division. One more loss ( assuming we win out- and we will) and we’re tied. The next game for Tenn. is against Philly. Now we all know that NO team that considers itself worth ANYTHING would lose to Philly, don’t we Falcon???

Well, you did LOSE to a team who lost to the Eagles…oh wait, that was during that whole NO OFFENSE 5-game streak…

sweet smile

Lets see, would that be the Arizona Cardinals?..no. The Tennesse Titans?..well, not yet, and we beat them too. I think you must mean the…Washington Redskins! And yes, we did lose to the Foreskins. However, since then…Washington is 2-3, while Baltimore is 4-2. So, my dearest little Falcon, who’s going up and whos going down, hrm?

Damn, I’ve run out of witty comebacks.

So we’ll just see, hmm? Just remember, on any given Sunday, ANY team can beat any other team. Ravens are good, just not Super Bowl good.

Whew! thank God. Falc ran outta comebacks at the same time I did. Yes, we shall see what we shall see, and my OP did mention something called the Raiders- so I’m not claiming Super Bowl good…yet. And BTW- “On Any Given Sunday”-is it just me, or would that be a good title for a movie?

  1. Stupid injuries. Redskins would’a won. :frowning:

  2. Baltimore Ravens? Ha! I think there must be a law somewhere stating that no teams that fails to score a touchdown for five straight games may even play in the AFC Championship.

Let’s have a look at their record:
Wins:
Pittsburgh: eh. Steelers aren’t at their best.
Jacksonville: damn close game for such a lightweight
Cincinnati: Ha!
Cleveland: Ha!
Jacksonville: Ummm…whatever
Cincinnati:
Tennesee: only worthwhile win all season.
Dallas: don’t make me laugh
Cleveland: See a pattern here?

Losses:
Miami: surprise; they lose to a (more than) competant team!
Washington: No comment necessary
Tennessee: Pesky teams with winning records
Pittsburgh: How’d they flub this?

Of course, Arizona and San Diego are still to come…

Falcon may have run out of comebacks but I’m not letting this one go. Baltimore is not capable of beating any of the following teams:
Rams
Vikings
New Orleans
Detroit
Tampa Bay

Hmm those teams are all in the NFC. Well Baltimore can’t beat the Raiders, so they won’t make it to the big show. And even if they do, say, by divine intervention, make it there, they could never beat whoever wins the NFC (one of the above teams.)

So there. No more trash talk from Baltimore Cravens fans[sup]*[/sup].

[sub]* this is not trash talk from me, it is counter-trash talk. There is an important and subtle distinction.[/sub]

EAGLES!!!

(I picked the Bolts to win yesterday, too.)

Mr. Firefly:

Actually, we were umm, quite busy, the second half of last week (Helsinki and all) that I didn’t get a chance to read the boards at all. So now, 6am Monday morning, about two hours ahead of when I usually wake up, I get a chance to read this thread. Finally.

I was on the plane yesterday from Paris when the game was played, and the first thing I asked my friends when they picked me up was “Who won the Eagles/Skins game??!?!?”

I was anxious on the flight, but if I’d only checked this thread before, and had seen Gazoo’s prediction, I would’ve been okey-dokey.

Well, except for leaving Sweden without Anniz. I need a shrink to certify me mad for doing that. But, I digress.

I’m starting to like an all I-95, all birds Super Bowl. Go Ravens and GO EAGLES!!!

What gave it away, my Randy Moss lunchbox?

I know. It’s like calling San Francisco “Frisco.” Anyway, the Lambs will have a chance to redeem themselves Dec 10 when the Vikes meet them in St. Louie. If you win that game, you re-earn your “s”. If the Vikes lose, my city will be known as Minneapoless. Deal?

Take it from someone who’s team has lost four “big ones”…that ain’t the worst that could happen.

I think you know what I want to say here…

::shakes head at Myrr:: Here you see a textbook example of what results when a person who lives in Baltimore gives in to the dark side and roots for Washington. Injuries? Wah, wah wah. You LOST- and no bad call by the ref to save you this week.

Neuro-
Rams
oh, yeah. the Rans are just playing soooo well right now. They don’t get more than 14 points against our defense- and haven’t held a team to under 20 all year.

Vikings
See above-Although they are more of a threat than St. Louis.

Saints
Probobly the best team with the most unknown players doing it week after week in the NFL. But who they gonna play after Ray Lewis and company knock this rookie QB into next week?

Detroit
A 3 game winning streak does not a Super Bowl make

Tampa Bay
BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Holding onto playoff WISHES with their fingertips. You really think Shawn King can lead an effective attack against our D?

No, the only true threat between the Ravens and their rightful place in NFL dominance is Oakland. As for that, we shall just wait and see…

AFC dominance you mean, Dave… Take a look up I-95 about 100 miles to see the team to beat in the NFC.

GO EAGLES!!!

Now that’s what I call bouncing back from a couple of bad weeks. Now for all your enjoyment, here’s my rankings as to chances to get to the Superbowl:

NFC

  1. Vikings - will have home field through the playoffs at this rate. Too bad they play the Superbowl outdoors on grass.

  2. Rams - Warner appears to be more of a factor than I thought. His ability in quick reads and to get rid of the ball is key. They’re defense is still shoddy, but if the offense can start clicking again, they can outscore anyone.

  3. Eagles - Scrappy, scrappy, scrappy - if only they had a wide receiver or two.

  4. Redskins - Still a threat to win any game.

  5. Saints - Nice resilience, but the inexperience in the offense is going to hurt at some point. Too bad, they’re definitely fun to root for.

AFC

  1. Dolphins - Just beat Indy with their QB and RB on the bench, and those are two positions they have very little depth at. Their defense can keep them in any game.

  2. Raiders - People are just now starting to talk about them. Very solid on offense. Defense has some lapses though.

  3. Titans - Just when you think they’re unstoppable, they hit a speed bump in Jacksonville.

  4. Ravens - Awesome defense, and now the offense is clicking again. They could do some damage come playoff time, but I don’t trust Trent Dilfer - he’ll blow it for them sooner or later.

  5. Broncos - They can come and play against any team in the league.

Well, let’s deal with some facts here, shall we?

Record against teams with winning records (as of today):

Ravens: 1-3 (and 1-1 against Pittsburgh, which is a borderline .500 right now)

Skins: 5-3

So clearly, the Redskins are playing better teams, and beating them far more often.

Wins against teams with losing records:

Ravens: 7 (and 1-1 against PIttsburgh)

'Skins: 2

Hmnmm, where did the vast majority of those Ravens wins come from? Losers. In fact, four of those wins are against Cleveland and Cincinnati, which are a combined 5-20.
And then we have Jacksnville at 5-7 and Dallas at 4-8.

So the obvious moral of this story is that the Ravens are playing pansies, and padding their win count. When they play winning teams, they consistantly lose. Moreover, it can not be said enough: the Ravens went five straight games without scoring a touchdown. Sad, really, that they’re in such a pathetic division that they think they can win because they beat up on two of the worst teams in the NFL (in fact, aren’t the Bengals the worst team of the 90’s? Or is that ever? :))

OTOH, the Redskins are playing winning teams, and winning. True, they dropped a game or two to some lightweights (Arizona, Dallas), but overall, they play winners, and beat them.
