Woops, just noticed there was a thread about it and I was beaten to the punch.
Well, he’s extremely immobile, and he has this weird sling-action windup that takes forever. He doesn’t actually take all that many sacks in reality, but behind our line, which is great at drive blocking and poor in pass protection, for a whole season? Concussions will ensue.
That said, Jeff Jagodzinski will supposedly run an Al Davis-y offense- run, run, run, chuck it deep - so as long as our three-headed RB monster picks up good yardage on first and second down he won’t have to throw too much.
Here in Pennsylvania we call that the Joe Paterno Offense. Two runs, a pass and a punt.
Heh. I like to refer to the Jon Gruden offense- two incomplete passes, run, punt.
Lions whipped the Colts today. Superbowl coming to Detroit.
You forgot the “cloud of dust” part…
I thought that was all of Big Ten football!
What, did you build a new stadium or something?
The annual Jets-Giants preseason bloodbath is tonight. Who goes down for the season this year? I’m gonna guess Giants’ center Shaun O’Hara.
People say Braylon Edwards has total stone hands, and he does drop a ton of balls. But tonight he made this amazing leaping 1 handed catch (which landed out of bounds) and he constantly makes circus catches. It’s not a bad hands issue, it’s a concentration issue. He’s actually a better receiver if you throw the damn ball in a way that he has to make a circus catch to get it, because then he fully concentrates on it… but the routine 2nd and 10 pass bounces right off his hands because he’s focused on making it a home run rather than an 8 yard reception.
I’m watching the game, Beef. When will Brady Quinn be officially announced as the starter? My guess is Monday.
I’m not so sure. He’s clearly the fan favorite, but coaches aren’t so enthusiastic.
The Browns have had dominant special teams play throughout the preseason in all phases.
On second thought, I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t name the starter until a day or two before the first regular season game, just to give that extra bit of advantage against the Viking’s game planning.
Coy Francies (CB) is having an impressive preseason. He may turn out to be a gem.
Had him on my fantasy team last year - this was my face every time I watched a Browns game:  That quickly became: :smack: I will not be drafting him again this year. The amazing circus catches are way too few and far between.
He had the worst targets vs receptions percentage of any receiver last year (38%) and he’s shown some worrying dropsies again this preseason. I was hoping good coaching could kick his ass, since he clearly has the hand/eye coordination and physical skills to catch more balls and it’s mostly a focus thing. I can’t imagine this year will be as bad as last year, but it’s concerning.
It’s just frustrating - he probably has a highlight catch reel as good as any receiver in the league, but you could make a worse drop reel than anyone else too.
So the Browns have beaten the pre-season champs (Lions have won 104 out of their last 35 preseason games) and last year’s number 1 seed. I know, I know - it’s just preseason. But come on now, is there any doubt that the road to the superbowl comes through Cleveland?
Shockey was like that. He would hold on to some amazing catches where he just got destroyed on the way to the ground, but then would drop one gimme per game. Quite frustrating.
In related news, the Giants’ receiving corps is so pathetic with their drops that right now it’s looking like Big Blue will be lucky to break .500 this year.
Don’t you go turning into me, now. It’s still a really good team.
Steve Smith’s drop highlights NY Giants’ questionable wide receiving corps
Steve Smith’s dropped pass is bad reminder of Giants’ reciveing woes
I’d link to a video highlight of this brutal drop but none of the nfl.com videos will play for me. (That redesign sucks ass.)
Don’t let Hakeem Nicks’ box score fool you; he was worthless against the first unit. His production came in the fourth quarter against the scrubs.
The Panthers look terrible right now. They played without a lot of starters, including Williams and Stewart, due to injuries, but still, they were awful. Mike Goodson continues to be a bright spot, but they are not looking good on either side of the ball.
Any Colts fans here? How did you like Ron Meeks as DC? It’s way too early to tell, but the Panthers’ D is not playing with any intensity at all.
I don’t get this. Sure, Quinn is the first-round pick and all that, but he hasn’t actually done anything yet. Anderson, on the other hand, has proven he has the tools to be a Pro Bowl quarterback.
Not a Colts fan, but as a Bucs fan I watched a lot of their games over the years because I rooted for Dungy.
Meeks is a bit odd. He put together some very impressive defenses in Indy- especially considering how much salary the Colts had tied up on offense over the years- but they tended to be pretty dependent on turnovers. If they couldn’t force a couple of picks or fumbles they lost, and if they did, they won. They weren’t the kind of team that held four straight opponents to under 250 yards.
That was the first time I’d seen both Quinn and Anderson playing with the first-team offense against the first-team defense. Quinn looked good, Anderson looked terrible.
