NFL Training camps and preseason

Anderson has never been all that good. His ProBowl was a fluke. He had a string of good games (inflated by a game against the Bengals where he threw for like 500 yards and 5 TD’s) a couple years ago and hasn’t done squat since.

Speaking of the AFCN, Andre Smith signed with the Bengals and is practicing with them today. Smitty The Titty is going to rock your world, yo!

Yeah, but I’ll take a great regular season over a great preseason.

Maybe if I’m a buffet cook.

We’re in 2009 now, bub. That overrated season was too long ago to ignore the fact that Quinn is now the better QB.

Tom Brady’s last good season was 2007, too.

I must admit, I’m enjoying the Broncos/Bears game so far. Dumervil just blew past Pace and almost had a safety, the Bears O Line isn’t giving Cutler much time to do anything, Hester has his usual screen for 4 yards catch, and the Broncos fans are brutal to Cutler. It’s putting a nice smile on my face. I can not wait for the real season to start.

And the Pats were smart enough to get rid of Cassel and maximize the value of his one good season.

Looks like Hester will be returning punts again though. Have fun with that.

I will note that the Bears seem slightly perplexed by the 3-4 defense, which has been the case in the past too. This could favor the Pack in Week 1, but I’m glad we’re getting a good trial run this week to prepare for it.

Care to make the Week 1 game more interesting?

Oh absolutely. I think we can wait and establish terms until the big Week1 thread.

Nate Davis, he of the dreaded learning disability, has played far too well in the last two 49er preseason games for them not to keep him on the 53-man roster. I’m not sure Damon Huard is worth keeping. I’m very impressed.

I kinda feel bad for not paying much attention to other teams’ preseasons. Oh well.

Hey Captain cheap-shot, get the fuck out of the booth so we can watch the game that’s actually being played.

Details, please. I stopped watching in the third quarter.

They had Rodney Harrison in the booth, apparently he’s working for NBC this season in the studio, and spent the entire fucking 4th quarter talking about the Patriots, Bruschi, Cassel, McDaniels, Brady and just about everything besides the game going on. When they were talking about the Bears and Broncos they talked about Orton, Cutler and Brandon Marshall none of who had taken a snap for better than an hour and a half.

To make matters worse, they had the cameras trained on Collinsworth, Harrison and Michaels in their matching suits while they were talking so we didn’t even get to see some of the plays. I know the Preseason isn’t the best thing going but at least make an effort to cover the game instead of promoting your studio show.

I didn’t think I would ever say this, but right now I wish Brandon Marshall hadn’t gone to UCF. What a douche.

Did anyone see the Saints-Raiders slaughter I keep hearing about?

Maximize the value? They traded him, plus Mike Vrabel, for a second round pick! That trade smelled when it was made, and now looks even worse with Bruschi retiring and the Patriots cutting O’Connell.

The only plus to that trade was the salary cap space it freed up, with which the Pats can now pick up whatever scrub backup QB they can find. I hear Jeff George is available.

The 49ers-Cowboys game was on at the same time, but once in a while I’d build up a DVR cushion by switching over. I didn’t really see anything significant, but every time I looked, the Saints’ score was higher.:smiley:

I wonder if Tom Cable realizes he’s fired yet.

(Eventually I changed to watching the SF Giants baseball game instead.)

O’Connell’s release is absolutely mystifying. Who dumps a third-round quarterback after 12 months?

Maybe he sucks. A 26 or so passer rating in mop up duty in preseason isn’t very promising. Coming out of he was a project anyway, and a reach in the 3rd.

Or, Brady is actually injured again, and they’re not so sure about Andrew Walter and need the roster spot to sign a veteran backup.

Or, they’re releasing him so that Pioli and the Chiefs can pick him up.

Or maybe a bit of all three.

If they needed the roster spot they’d just send him to the practice squad- not release him outright.

Maybe that’s Brian Hoyer’s spot, and they don’t think Hoyer would pass waivers. It wouldn’t be unheard of that a free agent outplays an overdrafted project.

It’s the Pats. Who knows.
