NFL Week 1: The Season Is Upon Us!!

I hope Peyton is really back. The future of my fantasy team depends on him.

My Saints are at home against the Redskins today. They should get an emotional boost from the reinstatement of Will Smith, and I guess we’ll see how productive the offense can be without Sean Payton…

GEAUX SAINTS!

None of the early games really grab me, but the late and night games could prove interesting. Of course I think the Packers - 49ers game is the game to watch. Two Super Bowl contenders duking it out with a high powered offense going up against a very stout defense.

The Denver - Pittsburgh game should be interesting too, just to see how Peyton Manning is doing. That’s the other must see game.

Unfortunately, the lamp in my big screen television blew out and I’m waiting for a replacement, so I’m going to miss most of the games. Woe is me.

Hie thee to your local watering hole, fair Hamlet! Heaven forfend you miss this most lofty of sporting games!

I don’t think it’s going to matter much today. Brees is a great QB and the Redskins’ secondary is suspect at best. The front 7 is Washington’s only real strength, but Brees knows how to avoid a pass rush and beat the blitz.

On defense, however RG3 ends up as a pro, it’s his first real game and they’re going to be throwing so much at him defensively I’m certain there will be more than enough mistakes to hold the Redskins to at least less points than Brees and Co. can score.

While I am a Redskins lifer, frankly if they can put up a respectable showing against a team as good as the Saints I can live with that.

What are your “stone cold lead pipe locks” for this weekend?

I’ll start: I don’t believe there is any conceivable way that the Browns can defeat the Eagles today, barring Vick getting knocked out of the game.

Yours?

There seem to be so many. Indy, Miami, Cleveland, and St. Louis are still pretty bad teams, so the Chicago Cutlers, Houston, Philly, and Detroit should all win easily. But if I had to pick one, I’d go with Houston over Miami. I can not see any possible way for a Ryan Tannehill led team to beat the Texans.

Well, football is almost as good as hockey.

I am, since I want to watch my Packers play, and they’ll be showing the Panthers game on the local channel.

Heathen!

Aaaaaannnnndddd they’re off!

Did anyone else see Brandon Weeden get trapped under the giant US flag?

Football is back!

… And so are the third down penalties and turnovers on the other team’s side of the field. I sure hope this isn’t 2011 again.

RG3 just threw his second touchdown to put the 'Skins up 17-7. Of course, it’s early, but RG3 is looking pretty good…

Someone needs to show the Eagles’ Coleman how to correctly use his chin-strap.

I am prepared to eat crow about RG3. I thought he’d be a colossal bust, but he’s looking great so far.

It’s 2012; they just kept all the players and coaches from 2011 because if they hadn’t had all those penalties and turnovers they’d have been one of the best teams in the league.

What in the world is going on with Stafford. He is throwing nonstop picks.

Not when one is an Islanders fan.

Jets have more offense in first quarter than all of preseason.

This is the most lopsided officiating I have ever seen!

Wow. One hour 23 minutes into the season before the whining about officiating starts.

Intriguing start to the season. Thoughts:

Ryan Tannehill has 3 interceptions in the first half alone. Not an auspicious start.

Robert Griffin III meanwhile has had a stellar first half including 2 TD passes. That is an auspicious start.

Chris Johnson is averaging 1 ypc in the first half.

Rams are beating the Lions, thanks in large part to Matt Staffords 3 interceptions.
