NFL: Week 1 - "We're back baby!"

Hmmm…its hard to tell if Hawk is touching him there…Sproles’ body language does seem to indicate that he is, but maybe he was bending down to catch the ball?

At any rate, the ref is right there too. Seeing that makes me kinda doubt my earlier pronouncement.

The flag was thrown by the ref who was behind Hawk (you can see his POV in the screen capture linked to earlier and in the video). He didn’t not have a good angle on the play. From my view, it looked like he couldn’t even see the amount of contact because Hawk was in the way. The ref who saw the play from the front didn’t throw the flag. Again, a judgment call, but one I think they got wrong.

That’s news to me.

I’m nervous/terrified/excited about tomorrow’s Eagles @ Rams game. For as confident as I am about the Eagles this season, I can’t help but see this game going really badly. Steven Jackson against the inexperienced/overmatched run defense of the Eagles? Ugh. Michael Vick (he of poor blitz reads and now with the expectation that he make all the O-Line reads instead of the center) and an offensive line featuring three new starters, among them a rookie center, and a right tackle who hasn’t played the position since college… in a loud dome on the road? Yuck. And the Eagles under Andy Reid always start poorly (5-7 in season openers).

I’d like to think the Eagles just have more talent and pull out a sloppy game in the end, but I’m having a hard time seeing it happen (still picking it though). And with a road game at Atlanta followed by a home game against the hyper-motivated Giants… I can still smell that 0-3 start and the utter collapse of the Eagles fanbase. At least then there’ll be a little more elbow room on the bandwagon. Sure hope that doesn’t happen!

Eagle fan here! Just received my Asomugha jersey and my pillow pet of Swoop is on the way!

I agree with you on today’s game. With all of these new players in a short training camp, I expect communication to be poor. I will NOT be surprised if I see Asomugha, Rodgers-Cromartie and Samuel all going after the same receiver.

We shall see, won’t we?

I so excited that I get to go the game here in STL (nosebleed seats though) with the family. It’s a fascinating game, with McDaniels (Rams O Coordinator) even likening it to Christmas morning. The Rams are about 4 point underdogs, but a lot of the sports guys here and nationwide like the Rams in this game. I don’t see it happening (I think their O Line is still questionable, Bradford is only in his second year and in a new offense, and the Eagles are clearly more talented), but the fact that there is actual hope for the Rams and that they’re an up and coming team is nice to see. Should be one of the best games this week.

Whoopsie. My football thoughts, though compelling, aren’t really worth two posts.

Just a heads-up, The RedZone channel is supposed to be free today.

Well that was the worst possible start to a game/season without a star going down for the season. Awesome!

Getting tired of seeing third and long and the Rams get bailed out on bogus phantom calls

Man, the Colts are getting WORKED. Manning must be seething. And the Steelers don’t seem to be doing much better against the Ravens.

Overall, it seems that I am seeing some pretty sloppy play across the board (I’m watching whip-around coverage on Redzone). Do others have that impression?

I am patiently (not) waiting to see my beloved Carolina Panthers beat (not) the Arizona Cardinals.

Watching the Ravens beat up on the Steelers has been the best possible way to start the season.

Damn. Dalton hurt after playing okay…here comes Gradkowski. Fuck. He sucks balls.

As usual, Tom Brady is having a great game, throwing four touchdowns with no picks and the Patriots are leading the Chiefs 34-7.

Wait…that’s Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Bills??? Is this madness???

I was hopnig to watch a football game, and an officiating party broke out.

C’mon Bengals! The Browns are as almost as inept as you are…SCORE!

Good god, no kidding.

FU Haden! AJ GREEN!

That was funny. How does an NFL team in this day and age completely forget to cover a WR? It’s not like he came out of the backfield and everyone was occupied!
