Welllllll it’s going to be a long football season at the 'setters house. Let’s see - da Bears were not AS bad as I expected them to be - at least they fielded a defense which is more than can be said for the last year or so - but still, don’t see a passel of wins in their immediate future. Colts? Really? sigh. And I’m not sure what game the Giants were playing last night, but I learned a whoooole bunch of new words from my roommate.
Odd how Dez Bryant’s episode of dehydration turned into a broken foot.
Eli fell on his sword, but it might not have been 100% his fault.
Eli looked like he wasn’t sure if the Giants would go for it on 4th down. That really should have already been decided. If yes, then throwing it away makes sense. If no, then taking the sack makes sense. Instead, they got the worst of both worlds, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory yet again.
The only thing the Giants prevent defense has ever prevented is the Giants from winning.
I just noticed the Eagles head coach is not using a wireless headset. I haven’t been paying attention but is this more common now than the last few years?
RE: Pacman (Adam Jones). I’m a Bengals fan, what he did was incredibly stupid. He risked a suspension/ejection and he’s actually a really important player on my team, especially on punt returns. I don’t know why he didn’t have his juju in Dallas in the PR role but he’s awesome here in the 'Nati at it and he can be extremely aggressive in coverage too. He singlehandedly cost the Raiders a first down by stripping Carr of the ball on a third down run, causing the ball to bounce backwards inside the marker, and Carr, trying to get to the marker, stupidly tried to stiffarm Jones and fucked up his hand, causing him to leave the game for good early on. You can say what you want about Jones, and I wouldn’t let him fuck my daughter if a I had one or babysit my kids but his career in the NFL has been totally galvanized in Cincinnati. He’s a fucking playmaker, end of story.
But there’s more to that play than the GIF you’re seeing online. Earlier Cooper punched Jones in the throat that didn’t get caught by the zebras. Jones’ retaliation was unprofessional and probably warranted some kind of punishment (he got fined only) but in that context it seemed more of a vet “punishing” a rookie. The Raiders had been super chippy all game long and had some cheap shots of their own (gasp! Not the RAIDERS!).
None of which justifies what Jones did, but none of us are out there on the field in full battle gear experiencing the intensity, ego and adrenaline of an NFL contest when the games matter.
