The Panthers’ increasingly poor play lately finally caught up with them once they weren’t playing Oakland or Detroit. The Falcons thrashed 'em yesterday. Matt Ryan is really impressive for a rookie, and has come a long way since the first time they played each other this year. I’m not sure what happened to the Panthers in the last 3 weeks. They don’t have any major injuries. They seemed to have forgotten how to tackle all of the sudden. Their D looked great earlier in the year, but looks like Swiss cheese now.
They’d better figure it out because they have some tough games ahead.
Anyone else notice what looked like systematic fucking of the chargers on Indy’s second to last drive? It was almost like the officials couldn’t bear the thought of a chargers win. 3rd down and they don’t make it, make up a phantom pass interference call. The only time John Madden said anything worth saying all night was the (admittedly funny) part where he was talking about that DB just standing there who got called for DPI. He did literally nothing for the whole play. Didn’t even move. Just stood there. Didn’t touch a single person. Two DPI calls and the bs no-fumble.
Personally, I hate the chargers, so I don’t really mind, but it’d be interesting to hear if anyone else watching was just mortified by the terrible officiating that’s just plagued the chargers all year.
Yep. I can’t believe that last Charger drive. I say you go for it on 4th and 2 (but it’s debatable) - is anyone surprised Peyton got into FG range in 1:30? But definitely if you’re kicking, you can’t call a time out. Good lord. And that’s aside from the false start penalty and Tomlinson forgetting how to catch a wide open pass.
Wait, there were a bunch of questionable calls (particularly pass interference) that all went the Colts way? I’m shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you!
On that subject, can anyone explain when offensive picks (e.g. receiver intentionally blocking defensive back before pass is caught) are theoretically legal in the NFL?
Nope. Been checking every half hour or so.
I doubt it’ll happen mid-season even if the wheels come off entirely. Too embarassed that they were stupid enough to give him an extension last year.
Edit: Picks technically are illegal, but it’s not a rule they ever enforce. I’m not even sure what penalty they’d call - offensive PI?
It seemed that way to me, but I’m not really objective after what happened to me with that Hochuli thing. It does seem like the Chargers are getting jobbed more than their fair share this year, although they’ve certainly benefitted from bad calls as well, like the PI in the Steeler game. I think part of it is that they’ve lost all these close games this year, so any mistakes in those games get magnified.
I think that’s the call they make. It’s not too rare a call - there was one against the Cards yesterday, and I think there was one on a fairly long catch & run that Ward had on Thursday.
Romeo’s press conference is mysterious delayed by 45 minutes.
Please…
Edit: Someone else said “typically bad clock management” - ha.
Haven’t fact checked this myself, but someone said “Butch Davis quit after exactly the same number of games coached by the Browns (59) that Romeo has had and oddly enough they both have the same record, 24-35.” - how odd.
