The Panthers are 2-0 after beating Da Bears 201-7 today. I was at the game. The Panthers stunk the joint out in the first half, but kept it close somehow. They played much better in the second half to pull out the win. Bring on the Vikings!
That score was 20-17… :smack:
The Chargers got screwed but good, didn’t they? I don’t understand why in situations like that the refs can’t call incomplete pass but allow the play to continue.
Every year there are one or two tough luck teams, how many years in a row are the Chargers going to be one? Last week and now this week, insane.
I picked the Broncos, and when it came down to it, a Chargers win would’ve sucked royally for me. That said, San Diego got shafted long and hard on that one. If I were a Chargers fan, I’d be fricking furious…
Like the edit note Hal. The Chargers did get shafted though, and the cursed Broncos brought in another win. On the upside for me, the Raiders have inexplicably not only won a game this season, but actually won it fairly handily. I don’t want to start to hope that they might not actually suck as hard as they seem to on paper…but they looked great today. Maybe it was just that the Chiefs sucked that bad, but the running game was insane, and while I still don’t trust the QB totally he made a few wicked connections. McFadden looks like he will be a runner to watch out for; Michael Bush too if he can learn to hang onto the ball.
Yes. The Chiefs suck that bad. Hell, their amount of suckiness creates a vacuum of suckitude that threatens to swallow the entire midwest.
And the Chargers did get screwed. Royally.
But the Packers won. And the Bears, Vikings, and Lions all lost. What a great day.
Yeah, I’ll have to second Hamlet’s post. The Chiefs are the worst NFL football team I’ve ever seen. I mean, they’re playing a three-man QB rotation, including one guy who doesn’t even take snaps in practice. How in the hell does Herm Edwards still have a job?
As somebody who spent most of the afternoon screaming at the television and begging the football gods to please, please not let the Broncos fuck themselves over, I don’t disagree that the Chargers got a bit shafted and I was stunned by the fumble-that-wasn’t-call.
On the other hand, the Broncos had some great offense–including the winning TD and 2 point conversion, Cutler looked like a professional QB, and our defense doesn’t seem to be hurting too, too much from the loss of Lynch. I know they shouldn’t have let the Chargers have 17 unanswered points in the 2nd half, but it could have been so much worse.
I’ve been watching the Chargers trounce the Broncos for the past three or four years (including the 2 very painful games last year), so my ultimate feelings re: the controversial calls are :
- Fuck the Chargers
and
2) Fuck the Chargers
and
3) Fuck Norv Turner (I just unreasonably hate the guy.)
Of course, last week the Broncos only won because the Raiders suck, and this week, the Broncos only won because of the refs–I’m sure that’s what I’ll hear from the talking heads all week. So I hope they flatten the Saints on Sunday.
I haven’t seen anybody get ass-hammered like that on national television since the Monica Goodling hearings.
Isn’t football season over . Oh wait the Lions play Frisco next week. Then it will be.
No, the Lions still have a chance…they play the Bears twice, right?
It could be worse. You could have been rooting for Cleveland today and watched their coach fuck up royally (IMHO, that is) in the last few minutes.
Twice-once in each half. Edwards is sure racking up those dropped passes.

F*CK…ME…
I would too. I’d be furious that my defense was so inept it couldn’t make a play when it counted most. I would draw a parallel to Bartman and the Cubs. The bad play didn’t lose them the game; their own ineptitude did.
Like with the sudden death overtime rules, I have little sympathy for a team that doesn’t have a defense complaining about a coin toss or a bad call going against them leaving their fate in their defense’s hands. If you think defense is less important than offense, go play in the arena league.

Was it just me? Or did that Packer game seem a bit cruel to the Lions? It was like the Packers were dangling a treat just outside of the Lions’ reach. And just when then got the tiniest taste and got a one point lead, the Packers pulled it away - then

HaHa 48-25! Got you good, fuckers!
It is fun being a fan of the first place Arizona Cardinals.
2-0 always feels nice (has it really been 17 years since the Cardinals last had this kind of start?)…the trick now is going to be maintaining it. Funny as it sounds, they really are probably the ones to beat in the division. I don’t see them having a ton of luck outside the division (and it sucks to be them to have to face the NFC East this year), but the NFC West is theirs’ to lose – probably go 5-1 in-division.
Let’s see…we know how it’s worked out so far…
1 - at San Francisco - W 23-13
2 - Miami - W 31-10
So let’s make some quick predictions for what’ve we got left…
3 at Washington - L
4 at NY Jets - W
5 Buffalo - L
6 Dallas - L
7 bye
8 at Carolina - W
9 at St. Louis - W
10 San Francisco - L
11 at Seattle - W
12 NY Giants - L
13 at Philadelphia - L
14 St. Louis - W
15 Minnesota - L
16 at New England - L
17 Seattle - W
We’ve got some play room there…trade off a surprise win in one with a surprise loss in another, but all in all it should be about accurate, giving them an 8-8 finish. Maybe add in an extra win overall, brining them to 9-7. Still, even .500 ball would probably be enough to get them into the postseason.
Yes, it’s very early, and another team could easily end up catching fire…but based on what we’ve seen so far I think we can call the finishing order:
1 Arizona
2 San Francisco
3 Seattle
4 St. Louis
