I’m already sick of the brother-brother angle on the upcoming 49ers/Ravens game. I’m more interested in the Niners’ defense proving it’s the best in the league by besting the title-holder head to head.
Ray Rice should be shut down, then Flacco won’t have the play-action to help him against a ball-hawking secondary.
Special Teams should tilt the field to boost offensive efficiency and defensive breathing room.
On offense, I hope they don’t get too wedded to Gore if success seems available on the edges, where Hunter excels.
IIRC, offsetting penalties also result in an untimed down, as there was a defensive penalty on previous play. I learned that after the 49ers-Giants playoff game a few years ago.
Thank you Gary and Bearflag. Reading the official NFL rule book makes my condo ownership association bylaws seem rational and well organized by comparison. But still thanks for the link.
It’s not happening. The Texans have already been trying out some veteran QBs for the scout team, including Kellen Clemens, Jeff Garcia, Trent Edwards, and a couple others.
Clemens is somewhat familiar with the offense, since he was with Washington earlier and they run a similar system. Garcia’s played for the QBs coach before. The others are reasonable, if unremarkable options (otherwise, they’d be playing for a team right now). They’re not looking for an Orton-type to play 3rd string.
Even with a reasonably good QB, it’s pretty late in the season to expect one to pick up the offense quickly. And they’re not looking to replace Schaub or Leinart right now, either.
I bet Mercury Morris has the champagne on ice for the Lions/Packers game…and I hope he gets to pop the cork. I know I’m in the minority, but I don’t want to see another NFL team go undefeated.
GEAUX LIONS!
And of course, my Saints have the Monday Night game with the Giants. Saw something that said Sproles, Ingram, Thomas and Ivory are all healthy this week, but the team has not decided yet whether to carry all four on the active roster…
Orton is saying he won’t report if the Chiefs claim him. It’s basically Bears or bust for Orton, we’ll see how much impact that has on what teams do. 2 hours til we know.
I could see some team in the hunt for the wildcard paying 2.5 million or whatever to prevent the Bears from getting Orton, unless there’s some waiver rule to prevent that.
Not quite sure I understand why the Chiefs did that. Sure Orton is better than Palko, but that team isn’t going anywhere. Maybe Haley is too concerned about his job status to play out the season and get a better draft pick. Maybe he wants to take a trial run to keep Orton long term as Cassel insurance. What’s Cassel’s contract status?
The Bears immediately added Josh McCown to their roster. I saw Hanie starting over Orton regardless but I am bummed we don’t have the neckbeard back in town for the novelty, media angles and security blanket he’d provide. Plus it’s nice when a guy leaves and is openly enthusiastic about returning. It just felt right for Thanksgiving.
Schefter reports that the Chiefs and Cowboys put in claims along with the Bears. Presumably the Cowboys were looking to block the Bears in hopes of helping to get them the Wildcard. Smart move I have to admit. There was speculation that Detroit would do the same thing.
What a lousy way to start off a day of football. It’s apparently more important to remember to be as flamboyant as possible while singing the National Anthem than it is to actually remember the words. Can’t these friggin’ show-offs just sing the song like it’s supposed to be sung?
Yeah that was pretty blatant PI they got away with…mayby some karma from the bogus one called on third down on the begining of the drive.
eta… Damn you karma
On the other hand, that was sort of a ridiculously blatant pick play for the TD then. They should just get rid of that rule if they’re never going to call it.
