NFL Week 16

cubsfan-They need CHI and MIN to lose too.

this is oakland @ carolina

Gosh dang it these hecking defenseless receiver calls are ridiculous

it’s literally impossible to defend those plays now

I hope they’re happy for ruining the game with safety rules

I wonder if anyone will accuse the Packers of running up the score.

Aaaaaand another win for the Redskins!

And the Vikings won, so that didn’t happen.

As far as the NFC East is concerned, from a Redskins POV, the result of the Cowboys’ game is immaterial. If the Cowboys lose today (they’re losing as I type this) but beat the Redskins next week, then the Cowboys have the tiebreak advantage.

So the Redskins win the NFC East if and only if they beat the Cowboys next week.

Cincy just kicked the winning FG. All 6 AFC slots spoken for, seeds TBD.

Ooof! Sometimes it seemed like Pitt didn’t even want to go into the playoffs! Who misses a FG from that distance?

Congrats to Cincy and their fans.

Saints stay alive with a flukey OT win in Dallas. Up by 14 with under 4 minutes to go, they let Dallas tie the game, lose the toss, but stop Dallas to force a punt. The flukey part came on a 20 yard+ fumble after a Colston reception. Graham hustles down to recover at the 2, Hartley kick, Saints win.

One of the refs had originally signaled Dallas ball after the fumble recovery (and no one signaled New Orleans recovery, although there was a ref conference before the review). During the discussion while it was being reviewed, it was said that if they ruled Dallas recovery on the field, that could not be reviewed and overturned, even though it was clearly a New Orleans recovery. What’s the deal with that?

How? Seattle and Minnesota both have 9 wins, how could the Saints possibly make that up in one game?

They had to find some asinine review rule that would be even more stupid than that non-review in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day?

Other than that bit of sarcasm, I got nothin’.

I didn’t see the game, but I’m pretty sure the rule is that you can’t challenge recovery of a fumble, you can only challenge whether or not it really was a fumble.

My god Ryan Lindley is bad. He has some upside, but he’s also god awful sometimes.

The Giants D are handing this game to the Ravens on a silver platter.

Come on, don’t pull that bull
Ravens (I’mma be pointin at you, Boldin) have had some absolute circus catches and seem to have grown a pass rush and a secondary overnight.

Sure, the Giants O-line has been godawful at times, but the Ravens have played some good football, and Caldwell seems to have gotten the run/pass mix about right. The Giants haven’t been bad, but on the other hand, neither have they been awful. Give some credit where it’s due; Ravens haven’t looked this good for a while.

Assuming they don’t stage one hell of a comeback (right now they’re down by 23), that takes the Giants out of the NFC East picture.

And with the Vikes and almost certainly the Bears (up by 22 right now) winning today, the odds are against 9-7 being good enough for a NFC wild card, so that all but takes them out of the playoff picture as well.

They needed several teams, including Minnesota, to lose twice. The Vikings win eliminated the Saints, but I didn’t know that when I posted above.

I happened to catch the start of the San Francisco - Seattle game and noticed that, when all the players did their little video intro they named the college they attended. Except Jeremy Lane, who gave his alma mater as John Tyler High School even though he went to Northwestern. Any idea why?

Fans always look at the game from their teams side.

To a Gints fan (like me), if they are winning, it’s because of their strong play, not the opponents weak play. And if they are losing, it’s their pathetic play, not the other teams strong game.

Easier to judge games where one doesn’t have a vested interest.

I don’t think there is any rhyme or reason to it. I notice one or two players a game seem to do a call out to their high school - I imagine it’s a whim sort of thing. I’m pretty sure I heard a middle or elementary school once.
