NFL Week 16

Yep! OUT!

I don’t think that any players play for the draft. For the most part they have to be concerned about future contracts and they want good stats and highlight reels.

Team management is another story. They may not play their best players in meaningless game.

There’s still a chance there will be at least one game at The 'Stick: if the 49ers win out and the Seahawks lose next week, the 49ers win the NFC West on a tiebreak; also, if the 49ers get a wild card, almost certainly it would be the #1 wild card, which means that if, somehow, both wild card teams make it to the NFC championship game, it would be in San Francisco.

Also, here are a couple of things that should be added to the drinking game:

If the names “3Com Park” or “Monster Park” are mentioned (bonus points if anybody says that “Monster” stands for either Monster energy drink or Monster.com; in fact, the sponsor was Monster audio/video cables)

If there is any mention of Kezar Stadium (which still exists, although it was pretty much torn down and rebuilt with a much smaller capacity, and is now used pretty much just for soccer and the city’s public high school league championship game)

Isn’t this why a considerable number of fantasy football leagues end in week 16 instead of 17?

Full disclosure, for anyone who doesn’t know, I’m a Chargers fan.

I’d handicap the AFC 6th seed chances like this -

  1. Miami. They get the Jets at home, and want the Chargers to win.

  2. San Diego. They get a Chiefs team that will likely be resting starters, since they are locked into the 5th seed, but they need Miami to lose to the Jets.

  3. Baltimore. They have to go to Cincy, and the Bengals need to win for a chance at the 2nd seed and to avoid possibly falling to the 4th seed. Plus they need the Chargers to lose.

  4. Pittsburgh. Must win, others must all lose. Not real likely.

And man, am I hoping the Bolts pull this out. Could they beat the Chiefs on the road? Yes, they already have. Could they beat the Broncos on the road? Yes, they already have! Beat the Colts at home, lost to the Bengals at home by 7. They just look to me like the kind of team we’ve seen a few times recently who sneaks into the playoffs in a down conference and makes a run - and the AFC is definitely a down conference right now. And if the Broncos are supposed to be the best of the bunch, well they just lost Von Miller to a torn ACL.

Or maybe not!

Would you like a little salt in that wound, injured Lions fans? Ouch.

Well, that was a bullshit call.

I’d tune in to watch Kyle Orton lead the Cowboys. Sounds like fun!

Eagle fan here. I’m not sure how I feel about the No Romo Show next week. Orton has been good in the past, might be rusty, but how exactly to you prepare to play against him? I can see him throwing a couple picks, but with Murray back in the RB spot, a No Romo game is no guarantee for us Iggles to win it that easy. And I like how Chipperoo reminded his players that the win against Chicago is not part of next week’s game. (I do like how Chip says everything that’s on his mind, unlike Reid who had no comment on anything. :D)

This will be a fun game to end the season on. And I’m excited for all AFC games to straighten out the playoff ranks. As far as Superbowl Contestants?? I have no idea.

Was it flexed to the Sunday 8:00pm slot?

Checked, yeah, it’s the late late game.

The playoffs basically begin 12/29 for several teams. As seen in Doors’ Steelers thread, even Pittsburgh still has a scenario that gives them a chance. I like it this way. Even with several spots already wrapped up, the seeding still isn’t set. Lots to play for, so a good Sunday for football.

Given your username, I am absolutely shocked to learn this!

I approve of this positive game plan

Baltimore loses to Cincy because it’s in Cincy and Cincy wants it more due to home filed advantage.

Miami loses to the wounded New York Jets due to the coaches job is on the line (remember they were skunked by Buffalo last week)

San Diego beats KC in San Diego because by that time Baltimore and Miami games have already both been decided and KC won’t play full out due to saving players for the play offs that they are already guaranteed.

I’ve been a Chargers fan since 1962 when they were in the old AFL games of old …

I don’t even want to hear the words next year … I’ve heard those words for the last time :smack:

Have the Cowboys gone crazy? There’s a story being reported that they’re signing Jon Kitna, who hasn’t played a snap in 2 years to be Kyle Orton’s backup. I understand not picking up Tebow and wanting to deal with that circus, but in a mist win game, they sign a guy who was the backup 2 years ago.

Kitna should know their system, at least. And, somewhat like Herschel Walker* was when they resigned him after being out a couple of years several seasons ago, he looks to still be in pretty decent shape. Plus, he makes wicked good margaritas for the team meetings.

*Kitna is not HW, that’s for sure. He is not at the superb level of physical condition that Herschel was. Just using him as a comparison. Actually, just because I remember being so amazed at how good of shape Walker was when they called him back. I mean, damn!
.

Actually, I kind of hope the Cowboys win the division. Seeing the massacred in the first round will be a delightful cup of delicious tears.

I can only guess that Cowboys know the game is lost if Orton goes out with any sort of serious injury. If he gets banged up and misses a down or two, Kitna can come in and run a couple of basic plays. Kitna isn’t playing for a job next year, so they know he won’t even try to get creative and be a hero.

The consensus among 49er fans, assuming we get a wildcard seed, is that Dallas is by far the best place for us to go in the first round. And the tears would taste extra sweet coming from the Cowboys.

::snip::

Haven’t been a fan quite that long myself - only back to the mid-80’s - but I’ve heard those words enough too. As for the games, I feel like the Ravens losing is a very strong bet - on the road, against a team that’s 7-0 at home, mostly in blow outs, and has the 2 seed possibly on the line. And if the Dolphins also lose their game (both are at 1pm EST) than I think the Chargers beating the Chiefs is a mortal lock. But it’s that Fins game against the Jets that has me worried. They certainly can lose, but I think it’s 50/50 at best. Maybe more like 60/40 in Miami’s favor.

But after the season the Chargers just had, it’s probably a better chance than we really deserve.
