NFL Week 2 2020

The Seattle defense showed up with 2 seconds left in the game. It was a thing of beauty.

Washington looked good in their first game, awful defense in their second.

And Saquon is indeed out for the year with a torn ACL. That sucks, I like teasing my friend who’s a Giants fan when they lose but it’s bad for the sport when the best players are hurt. And, I’m definitely more of an old school running game fan.

Interestingly, the Cowboys got in an often debated situation around here. They were down 15 and scored a touchdown with 5:00 left to go - they need another unanswered touchdown, and they need a 2 point conversion on one of the two touchdowns. The debate is whether to go for it now, or wait to go for it on the second touchdown. The argument for going for it now is that if you fail, you know you have to play for a miracle, as opposed to just losing if you go for it on the second TD and fail. That’s exactly what happened to the Cowboys, they failed to convert the 2 point conversion, but got the miracle onside kick recovery.

Jones didn’t even have one or two good games before suddenly being declared as “special” by Gettleman. If only it were that reasonable. It was three drives during the Senior Bowl that convinced Gettleman. Ouch. (EDIT: Forgot the link)

You forgot the third, which is that one NY team plays at 1pm and the other at 4pm. It’s extremely rare that both NY teams play at the same time, and possibly there are rules preventing it. (Showing one NY team game during the other NY team’s home game would dilute the audience.)

Of course, as I write this, both NY teams played at 1pm on Sunday this past week. But again, that’s unusual. This week all is right with the world again with the Giants playing at 1pm, Jets at 4:05pm.

Did they do the same for Oakland and SF?

They did when the Raiders were in Oakland. They’re not anymore, but i don’t know if they’re still doing it.

Yes and no. Occasionally one of them would get stuck playing a 1pm kickoff (10am local time) to keep them separated, but mainly they would just over-represent them in a second-tier night game, either Thursday or Monday, to keep them from playing at the same time. (EDIT: So yes, they definitely put in effort to keep same-market teams playing at different times, but no, being both on the West coast they can’t really just do them at 1pm and 4pm like they normally do with the two NY teams.)

And in fact, to a lesser extent, I would bet a dollar that the Giants and Jets have also been historically over-represented (slightly) in night games in the effort to keep them separated. The Giants actually have a double-whammy, as all of the NFC East is also over-represented in national games for ratings.

EDIT: I have no idea but assume they also try to schedule the Ravens and The Football Team playing at different times. That’s the same tv market, yes? (I see from the OP they both played at 4pm this past week, but then both the NY teams played at 1pm so it’s hard to tell.)

That’s a weird one and maybe it’s unique to the D.C. market but I’ve noticed the Ravens and Washington often scheduled for the 1pm ET game. I assume it’s for the fat juicy ratings of the 4 pm game. And, the DMV area is definitely transplant heavy as well.

So looks like the ‘Professional Sports Team in the Gambling Capital of the World’ experiment worked out right? I mean, it would have been pretty bad optics if the Las Vegas team’s first home game victory was sealed by a huge disputed referee call in the closing minutes (and at least three calls in favor of the home team that even the announcers disagreed with). People would have had to wonder whether it was gambling influence, or the league wanting to give a good start to the most recent owner to move their team because taxpayers weren’t giving him enough money for nothing.

So the reason Herbert got the start for the Chargers is that the team doctor punctured Tyrod’s lung trying to administer a pain shot for cracked ribs.

I’ve never thought Haskins was the answer at QB. He’s wildly inaccurate at throwing anything beyond short passes and he doesn’t read the defenses well. I could see him as a backup coming in to take a knee at the end of the game, but that’s it.

Sheesh, with “team doctors” like that, who needs a linebacker blitz?

Admittedly he was in a shit situation last year and who the fuck knows what was going on behind the scenes with Gruden.

But, he’s got everything he needs this season, I’m sure he’d like a healthy Guice back. Yeah, the O-Line needs help, but you can’t pull a pro bowl left tackle out of your ass every year. I assume Alex Smith is basically his personal coach and I can’t see Haskins getting benched for a long time. So, he doesn’t have to stay up late at night sweating his job this season.

Wow. As per the ESPN article below:

Meaning - Herbert will start.
